Principal’s Message Are you ready yet to cope with that ‘C’ word that seems to creep up on us almost out of the blue? - Christmas! Seeing decorations up in most shops now is certainly bringing pressure to bear on the fact that the Holland family NEED to start thinking about Christmas shopping soon. Despite the inevitable shopping to-do-list that we face, there is a lot to look forward to at this time of year. As of this Thursday, our school family Christmas Carols are only 2 weeks away. Our wonderful Carols committee, led by Mrs Swanson, have been planning this event all year and our hope is that if you enjoyed last year’s Carols, this years’ should be bigger and better and hopefully even more enjoyable for the whole family. Keep an eye on upcoming newsletters for details about all of the things that are happening, but I hope that you and your family are able to join us, it should be a wonderful evening. Last term I indicated that our Stage 1 Assistant Principal, Mrs Swanson was successful in gaining a position closer to home at Irrawang Public School. Her replacement has now been confirmed and I’m pleased to announce that Miss Nicole Zawierta will be joining the Cardiff South team in 2015. Miss Zawierta has been teaching for 11 years and has spent the past two years leading literacy and numeracy initiatives across schools in our area. She brings with her a number of teaching strengths that will be welcome in our school and that will benefit both our staff and students. She commences on Day 1, 2015. Principal’s Message

Are you ready yet to cope with that ‘C’ word that seems to creep up on us

almost out of the blue? - Christmas! Seeing decorations up in most shops now

is certainly bringing pressure to bear on the fact that the Holland family NEED

to start thinking about Christmas shopping soon. Despite the inevitable

shopping to-do-list that we face, there is a lot to look forward to at this time of

year. As of this Thursday, our school family Christmas Carols are only 2 weeks

away. Our wonderful Carols committee, led by Mrs Swanson, have been

planning this event all year and our hope is that if you enjoyed last year’s

Carols, this years’ should be bigger and better and hopefully even more

enjoyable for the whole family. Keep an eye on upcoming newsletters for

details about all of the things that are happening, but I hope that you and your

family are able to join us, it should be a wonderful evening.

Last term I indicated that our Stage 1 Assistant Principal, Mrs Swanson was

successful in gaining a position closer to home at Irrawang Public School. Her

replacement has now been confirmed and I’m pleased to announce that Miss

Nicole Zawierta will be joining the Cardiff South team in 2015. Miss Zawierta

P&C AGM

Last Wednesday the P&C held their Annual General Meeting. During this

meeting all positions were declared vacant in line with the procedural

guidelines and a new P&C executive were elected. Congratulations to the

following people: Cassandra Vizintin – President, Stephen Nash – Vice

Uniform Shop – P&C

At the P&C AGM meeting, the position of Uniform Shop Coordinator was not filled. It was discussed that it

would be best to have a group of parents who are willing to help out on a regular basis to run the Uniform Shop.

We would like a minimum of four parents who are either current members of the P&C or who would be willing

to join. If there are at least four parent helpers that would mean you would only be required to help once a

month. The day and time of the Uniform Shop would be agreed upon by those who volunteered. The Uniform

Shop is a very important part of our school community and it would be greatly appreciated if you could put

some thought into putting your hand up to help. The next P&C meeting is Wednesday 18th February 2015.

Please come along to voice your support or leave your details at the office and a member of the P&C will contact

you to discuss your willingness to be involved.

Kindergarten Orientation

Our third and final Kindergarten orientation visit is planned for next Tuesday (25/11). This visit is for both

parents and students. The parents will be led through an information session by next year’s kindergarten

teachers and the students will participate in a school orientation session. This will be an exciting visit for the

students as they will also meet their Year 6 buddy and enjoy a family BBQ with us. Families are reminded to

meet under the COLA at 9:30am as per normal.

Lake Macquarie AECG

We recently received information from the Minimbah AECG that a new AECG group has been formed to support

schools in our area. The newly formed group is currently called the Lake Macquarie AECG and the first meeting

will be held tomorrow (19/11) at Glendale High School’s cultural room starting at 5:45pm (5:00pm for full

members). A light afternoon tea will be provided and an invitation has been extended to all of our Aboriginal

families to come along. For more information please email [email protected]

2015 School Captain Election

Just a reminder - that the nominees for our 2015 School Captains will deliver a speech to the whole school

assembly on Thursday morning at 9:15am. The students from Years 2-6 and teachers will vote immediately

afterwards. Family and friends are welcome to join us in the hall for the assembly to hear the candidates

present their speeches.

99% Fruit Slushies The weather lately has been perfect for a refreshing fruit slushie, and many of our students seem to be enjoying them. However, for some students, their eyes may be too big for their belly. After some discussion, between Mr Holland and some members of the Canteen Committee, there will be some changes to the way slushies are sold.

At recess - ONLY ‘small’ slushies will be sold (cost $1 each) At lunch - NO slushies will be sold after 1:45pm

Please discuss these changes with your children, explaining to them that time may limit them from finishing a large slushie before they have to return to class, and ordering a small may save some disappointment.

Library News Last week was our final week of borrowing from the library.

Wow this year has flown by! Please encourage your child to

return their books this week. I will be sending out overdue

notices during their lessons; please look around for these

books at home. If you cannot find them, send a note in so I

can pay extra care to look for them during stocktake. After

the stocktake is complete and all classroom books have been

returned, I will send notes out again to advise people about

missing books and the associated replacement costs. Thank

you for your support.

I have been reviewing our library usage this week and it is

exciting to see how many avid readers are amongst us. Well

done to those students who borrow and return regularly.

Keep an eye out for your child to be part of our summer

reading program. A proven way to keep kids reading over the summer holiday is participation in a summer

reading program.

Happy Reading, Melanie Conrick

School Uniform update

With the end of the school year looming, it may be a good time to update parents on our new uniform. In

readiness for 2015, parents have been enquiring about when the coloured house shirts will be ready for sale.

The order is currently being finalised and it is hoped that the new sports shirts will be available for the start of

the 2015 school year. Those families whose children need a new sports shirt are advised to hold off a little bit

longer. Also, if you are buying school shoes over the holiday period, please remember that our school uniform

requirements include black shoes for the first four days of the week and where practical, white sports shoes for

sport on Fridays. School hats are available through the uniform shop and the office.
