    STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO GIVE WHERE THEY LIVE

    THE Southern Highlands Foundation is asking students from two Bowralhigh schools to demonstrate their best new fundraising ideas for a $2000prize on Thursday night.

    The presentation is a chance for Bowral High and Oxley College to show off

    innovative and creative fundraising concepts developed for local charities aspart of Gr8 2 Give, an initiative of the Foundation.

    Gr8 2 Give was conceived to promote philanthropy to local young peopleand show them that working with charities can be rewarding and fun.

    Bowral High has teamed up with the Bowral Youth Refuge, while OxleyCollege is working with Rainbow of the Southern Highlands.

    Each team has a chance to win $1000 for their school and $1000 for theircharity.

    Southern Highlands Foundation youth philanthropy officer Meghan Barrellsaid the project is a pilot that could be adopted nationally.

    This is the first time Gr8 2 Give has been run with school students, shesaid. It was done successfully by the University of NSW business schoollast year.

    The University program was established by Peter Kazacos through aKazacos Foundation Grant, Ms Barrell said. We are lucky to also have MrKazacos support for Gr8 2 Give.

    Mr Kazacos, owner of the KAZCARE Educational Facility in Bowral, will joinfour other judges to decide the winner.

    Foundation CEO Dian Ball hopes the students will put their ideas into actionafter the event.

    The idea is to develop innovative fundraising ideas that the charity can usesuccessfully, Ms Ball said. And the community will see that locally we canall work together to be innovative and creative.

    Members of the public are invited to attend the judging and awardpresentation at the Mittagong Playhouse from 5pm on Thursday.
