    Use and Possession

    Student Responsibilities

    Turn off and secure* your devices when in class,unless permitted to use by your teacher or thestaff person in charge of your location (*out ofsight or holstered)

    Use your device responsibly. Follow the in-structions of all staff regarding their use.

    Do not use your device in school restrooms,locker rooms or any room designated forchanging clothing.

    School use rules apply when on field trips. Devices should not be used to bully or tease,

    haze or facilitate fights, cheat, plagiarize or for

    other behavior that is contrary to district policyor school rules.

    Only take pictures or video when you havepermission to do so from your teacher or otherresponsible staff.

    You are responsible to report inappropriate useby others to an administrator or teacher.

    You are responsible for the security of yourdevice while at school, on school buses, or onfield trips.

    Teacher Responsibilities

    Be clear on classroom rules regarding when andif personal electronic devices may be used bystudents in your classroom.

    When use is permitted by you, support studentsby teaching appropriate use of devices.

    Do not require students to use their personaldevices.

    If students report inappropriate use to you,inform the appropriate school administrator.

    Report all inappropriate use witnessed by you tothe appropriate school administrator.

    If student behavior necessitates the confiscationof a device, use ordinary and prudent care of thedevice in your possession and turn in to theschool office as soon as is practicable.

    Learn how, when and if electronic devices canassist you in teaching and students in learning.

    Share best practices with your colleagues toimprove teaching and learning if you use devicesin your classroom.

    Parent Responsibilities

    Be aware of school rules regarding use andpossession of personal electronic devices.

    Teach your student prudent use and possessionof the device. Help your student understandhow to properly secure their device by eitherproviding a holster, case or choosing anotherlocation to secure the the device when not inuse.

    Work with the Principal to establish special use ifyour family circumstances require it.

    Support your school staff if your studentsdevice is confiscated from them for failure to

    follow classroom rules, school rules or districtpolicies.

    Know your students schedule, and understandwhen they may respond to you.

    Review appropriate use of the device with yourstudent.

    Support your student if they witnessinappropriate use in reporting the use to theappropriate school administrator.

    Principal Responsibilities

    Inform Students, Staff, and Parents of Use andPossession rules on an annual basis.Work with Parents to establish specific plans for

    use upon parent request when familycircumstances require special accommodations.

    Support classroom teacher choices about use intheir classrooms that support teaching andlearning.

    Encourage teachers to learn when, how and ifuse of devices will improve teaching andlearning.

    Be consistent in enforcing district policies.Encourage the sharing of best practices around

    use of devices that promote teaching andlearning.

    Take appropriate disciplinary measures forstudents who fail to use devices responsibly.

    Take appropriate disciplinary measures for staffwho intentionally or through gross negligenceharm student personal devices.
