MATHLETICS CHAMPIONS Congratulations to Josh Roscarel and Jye Hoskinson (above) who were Mathletics champions for Primary (with 152 correct answers) and Infants (48). KINDER’S NEW FRIDGE Kindergarten are very excited as last week we took delivery of a new LG fridge for our classroom. A huge thank you to the Canteen Committee for purchasing the fridge, and a special thank you to Mrs Jenny Northey for going to Griffith to select the fridge and transporting it to our classroom. Our lunches, fruit and water bottles will now be able to be kept cool! Photo, standing : Mrs Parkinson, Darcy Langham, Ashton Ross, Matty Woods and Audrey Hukins. Kneeling : Jordyn Worley, Regan Hukins, Hayley Wallace and Chloe Kirkup. Sitting : Alex Batty, Hugh Williams and Josh Cameron. SRC NEWS The SRC held its second meeting for the term on Monday, and Jacob Bussenschutt was very authoritative in his role as chairperson! Jeans for Genes day will be held at Ungarie Central tomorrow, and Mrs Culbert is currently ordering the combination goal posts that the SRC selected at the last meeting. Members discussed holding a crazy hair/mufti day on the last day of term, and a Footy Colours day will be held on Friday of Week 8 (2nd September). Lunchtime basketball competitions were also discussed, with members keen for them to begin again, as well as the possibility of opening the sports shed at play times (which was eventually decided against in a decisive vote). It was also suggested that the SRC run a stall at the Ungarie Show, and members are currently looking for good suggestions and ideas. The meeting also finalised a list of suggestions for representatives Lucy Patton and James Parkinson (pictured above) to take to Wednesday’s P&C meeting. Lucy and James spoke to the P&C members outlining the SRC’s suggestions for the canteen, and these were favourably received. Fruit will be available on a regular basis, and there is actually a fruit slinky maker at the school which will be used at the canteen when it is located. The P&C is also currently looking at the varieties of ice creams available. Congratulations to Lucy and James for representing the SRC in such a professional manner! STUDENT NEWS Term 3 Week 4 2011

Ungarie Central held its Education Week Open Day last Friday. Classrooms were open

to the community after recess, and this was followed by an assembly in the Canteen

undercover area. Primary and Secondary Captains Amber Forrest, Vanessa Robb, Henry

West and Teigan Cassidy (above) ran the assembly smoothly, and Henry joined James

Parkinson and Mrs Mason to lead the National Anthem. Mrs Jacinta Creighton (nee Navin) was guest speaker for the day, and helped present the educational awards (top

right). This was followed by musical items by Year 3/4 (on recorders), the Secondary

Singers (“Beautiful,” below right) and Year 7/8 Music (“Soul Sister”) with Jesse

Dunstan singing (left). Mrs Culbert then presented the Education Week Certificates to

Rhianne Forrest, Kody Whiley, Vanessa Robb and Ryan Crofts (below) and Vanessa

Williams, Colleen Robb, Kim Cassidy and Phil Smith (below : Nicole Lewis and Carol

Rattey were not present on the day). After the assembly everyone enjoyed a sausage

sizzle, and at 2pm the School Community Hall was officially opened by Mrs Culbert

    and P&C President Marion Clarke.

  • iPod/iPadTraining

Over the past two weeks Mrs Roscarel and Mrs

Wason have provided iPod and iPad training to a

number of teachers from various schools in the

area. The teachers involved have included two

from St Mary's in West Wyalong, two from

Narrandera Public School and five from Griffith

High School, including Ian Preston a former teacher

    at Ungarie Central School.

These training days provide people with an

overview of the 'iSkool Rocks' program at UCS and

then allows for hands-on learning using the many

educational apps installed on the iPods and

iPads. From here the staff return to their schools

with many ideas on how to implement the use of

mobile learning devices into educational programs

    within their seatings.

Samples of UCS students’ work completed on

these mobile devices has been showcased during

these days and the visiting staff are amazed at what

can be created on the iPods and iPads.
