Future Plans Personal Statement

DON’T read this – paraphrase, summarize… Future Goals

5th year plan Where do you plan to be in 5 years, 10 years and

beyond Should probably NOT include personal things like

marriage…. CAN include desire to travel, etc.

Page 23: Student Name

Culminating Project MAJOR part of your presentation

Tell about it Who/where you did your project/mentorship What did you do? What did you learn – good and bad What you liked/didn’t like

This is where you can state that you changed your future plans because of your mentorship – not exactly what you want to do… and why…

Visuals!!!! Need photos to document… Visuals always draw your audience in

Page 24: Student Name

Closing Notes Close with your future plans – everything you

have shared leads up to your future Restate your goals Summarize your presentation Ask your audience if they have any questions

– be prepared to answer them. Remember you made them curious The sign of a good presentation is for your

audience to have questions – even if you go over your time

Reminds your audience what you shared with them{

Page 25: Student Name

Dress for Success

Dress professionally – if your chosen career wears professional clothes – dress the part (Dressing for success); if your chosen career wears a hard hat, bring one and dress as you would on the job – in CLEAN clothes

Avoid perfumes/colognes – can be too strong in close quarters.

If you have piercings/tattoos, cover them up – this is like a job interview

Page 26: Student Name

Final Notes Before you start, set up a separate folder for

presentation and documents/files Back up your presentation – save often and have

at least 2 working copies (server and USB) of presentation and at least 1 previous copy Consider saving your work as drafts w/dates so you

always have a back up should something happen… Plan for the unexpected…

We can always delete drafts – takes less time (& stress) than recreating

Page 27: Student Name

Final Notes Don’t sweat the small stuff, prepare

and practice – If you are organized your presentation will be smooth, you will appear informed, poised, prepared, and professional earning higher marks
