This trimester I learned about magnetism and electricity. First I read an article about how Magnus discovered magnet that explained that Magnus found out that some magnets attract and some repel. Then I read the article, and the story was about one day Magnus went for a walk with the sheep and take them up the mountain, once Magnus went up that mountain, his slippers got stuck and his shovel got stuck too Magnus can still walk but every time he walks it feels like sticky things are glued among his slipper so then Magnus checked if his slipper had any sticky stuff but when looked nothing was there also the shovel. But at last the scientist found out that the mountain Magnus was walking up was the mountain made out of lodestone and lodestone are magnetism. So at class we learned about a schematic diagram that scientist used for symbols we learned about that some look like magnet but they don’t attract. So I made a T chart with my partner about which ones attract and which ones repel, my chair leg, under the table, stapler and my teacher’s folder tip. And we made a lot of experiments. It was so awesome. Show you some of my experiment and my science folder.

Math

In Unit 7, I learned about pattern block Fraction, Equivalent, and probability of events.Some things I am really good at are probability and adding fraction.I would like to show you how I add or subtract fraction. And partial productI was in Mr. Macʼs class for unit 8. I learned about area and perimeter. I understand the formulaʼs for area and perimeter.

An area is a square unit inside a shape and to find out the perimeter of a polygon is to do base times height or also known as (b * h =the area) but for a triangle the rule for is is base times height divided by two equals to area (b * h / 2 =the area). And a way to find out the perimeter which is the distance outside a shape, and you just have to add up all the sides.

I will be starting Unit 9 next week. I will be learning about Fraction, decimal and percentage. I will learn how to convert fraction, decimal and percent.

Reading

This trimester I read The Earth Dragon Awakes, When The Circus Came To Town, Teammates and Worth, these books are all historical fiction books. My parter is Washington. When I read the book Worth, my book club group had 1 classmates in my group and it was tough because it was just me and Washington and other groups have four, three or five. And my book clubʼs name was Dark Dragon.

While reading this book I learned many different strategies to help me improve my skills. Some of the strategies I used are: I used sticky notes and my fan, we also wrote down a chart that is put in groups by setting, vocabulary, mood/tech, main characters. We used a dictionary, thesaurus, we made connections on media, around the world on computer or on news also related to myself. My teacher told me to get a notebook and write the story mountain about the book for example: Beginning, middle, problems, solution and the ending. I learned how to empathy my characterʼs feeling and think about what happens if that character was me what would I feel like?

When I would meet with my book club members after reading a designated number of pages we would discuss some of these issues. We discussed with our partners about the authorʼs message and the internal and the external of the main character we used our reading strategies like: Background knowledge, classify/sequence, monitor, imagery and pipes to think about what the author is thinking about and what genre is it? We need to put down all those checkmarks to make a poster to show everyone in class.

Some information we learned when reading our book we used to make a poster. (Show poster/explain) I used Pipes and pipes stands for perjection, infection, pace and pause, eye contact and stance. I can record my voice and then listen to it when I am finished. I try to see if I am able to brag to my parents about that I worked hard on my poster with my partner and discussing about the book.The genres I enjoy the most is Historical Fiction, drama books, mystery and fantasy also non fiction etc.

Some areas I feel I could work a little harder at attaining are explaining hard about vocabulary and put more sticky to remember the lessons and the cause and effect. Some things I feel Is do my best at in reading are: Typing down important parts or events. Because sometimes I can learn a lesson.

I sometimes read every day or night for at least thirty minutes and record this in my planner. I have been successful on this home work assignment. My favorite place to read is at home and on bus and also I read to my father out loud sometimes or read to the wall standing beside until I am reading." " " " " " " " " " " "" " " "

Social  Studies    I  learned  about  the  dynasties  of  China.  The  dynasties  I  studied  were  Qin,  Han,  Tang,  Song,  Ming  and  Qing.  I  went   to   the  Shanghai  Museum   for  a   field   trip.   Some   things   I   saw  and   learned  about  were:  Things  that  was  really  old  and  harder  material  to  use  for  example,  a  bowl,  sword,  sedan  chair  and  pottery   also   some   people   are   still   using   it.   The   reason  why   some   things   they   still   keep   in   the  museum  of  some  of  the  old  goods  is  because  they  are  precious.    Next,   I   am   learning   about  Modern  China   from   the   end  of   the   last   dynasty   from  1912   to   the  present  date.  (Share  time  line  with  your  parents.)    I  am  presently   learning  about  economy  about  how  our  economy  works   in  China.   I  know  that  there  many   factors   that   affect   our   economy.   For   instance,   some  natural   resource  some  from  man  made   some   from   underground.   At   class   time   the   teacher   told   us   to  make   a   chart   about  those.    Natural  Resources  are  soil,  fossil  foil,  oil,  dirt,  nature  and  iron/steel.  Etc.  Men  made  are  vehicles,  toys,  phone,  computer  and  light.  Etc.  Under  grounds  are  beans,  corn,  wheat  and  potato.  Etc.

Writing Script

This trimester I wrote a fantasy fiction essay. First I thought of ideas from ordinary moments to get my ideas for my topic. These were some of my ideas: 1.I saw my ayi in kitchen working in a really hot and steamy room for a really long time, I wonder how she can stay there for a really long time. 2. At the road every day I see an ayi begging for money, what happens if she was me. 3. I wonder why Albert Einstein is so smart. 4. Why are some people in the world that is really gifted and smart. etc. Next, I chose my topic. My topic was Why are some people in the world is really gifted and smart.

After that I developed the main character of my story. My main characterʼs name was Dexter. Some of there internal and external characteristics are the internal factors for any character is creative, smart and never give up also think big. And the external for Dexter is thin, barely anything to eat and curious.

Later, I made a story mountain is a plan that tells the beginning, middle and ending to your story. The beginning was the part when he was thinking at morning about inventors and people that changed the world then one day at school he found the leaflet on the school wall about the invention competition convention. But one day at school every body thought that Dexter couldnʼt do it even the teacher. at the middle of the story he started building his time machine and one day Dexter visited his grandmotherʼs friend in Egypt, but one time Dexter fell in a cave then he saw a god that gave him a important tool for the time machine then every thing disappeared so at the end Dexter finished his time machine and he got famous.

Once I had my plan I was able to write a rough draft. I will show you my story mountain and rough draft.

Our class used a rubric to assess our writing. This rubric explains what is expected of a fourth grade writer. I went over this rubric with my teacher before and after I finished my writing piece.

The next thing I learned in writing was how to write poetry. I learned there are many different styles of writing poetry. Some styles I learned are Acrostic, Free Verse, Haiku, Cinquian and literary device.I will show you my poems on my blog that I uploaded using an application called ISSU. It is like magazine or book with pages that turn.
