    We are delighted that you have chosen Taylors University to continue your journey in education. We, in the Student Experience Department and the Orientation Committee, are committed to assisting you in your transition into Taylors University and getting you started on your way to academic success.

    The rst thing to get you going on your journey is our Orientation Programme.

    Orientation allows you to experience Taylors personally, during which you will be introduced to our facilities, staff, procedures, services, student activities, and many other related features. You will also be participating in consultative sessions with the academic advisors, register for classes and obtain your timetable. The Orientation Committee works closely with the various faculties and staff to give you the best overall experience to kick off your years here. From information about transportation and accommodation, buying textbooks, to choosing clubs and societies to belong to, or just nding out the best places to study in our new Lakeside campus, we cover everything and make sure that your orientation experience is comprehensive.

    With the Student Kit in your hand, you will also nd useful information to get started, to settle in and to get involved. In the years to come, we encourage you to engage yourself actively in the learning experience, strive for academic excellence and turn yourself into an all-rounder.

  • 4a. Attending the Orientation ProgrammeThe Orientation Programme is very important as it prepares you for the academic programme you have enrolled in.

    You need to get the following items from the Academic Services Ofce during the orientation session: 1) Orientation Timetable2) Academic Timetable

    b. Paying my Tuition FeesAll fees must be paid before the commencement date of every semester.Students will be barred from campus facilities on the 1st day of Week 3 if the semester fees remained unpaid and late payment penalty of RM100 per week will be imposed on any outstanding fees incurred commencing from Week 3. Students studies will be terminated on 1st day of Week 5 if there is still outstanding fees unpaid.

    Students who pay their fees via online / telegraphic transfer or direct bank-in are reminded to inform the University of their payment through fax (03-5629 5227) or email at [email protected].

    c. Getting my Student Identication Card (Student ID)It is very important to have your Student ID with you / displayed at all times when you are on campus.

    To get one, please follow these simple steps:1) Present your original payment receipt showing full semester fees paid the Student Advisor @ Student Central, located at Level 2, Block A.2) Our Student Advisor will take a digital picture of you.3) Your ID will be ready after 24 hours (on working days). Please collect your Student ID from Student Central.

    You need to remember your student number throughout your time with Taylors. If you lose your Student ID, get a replacement made at Student Central.

    There will be a ne imposed on lost Student IDs. RM50.00 for a rst time occurrence and RM100.00 each for subsequent replacements.

    Purpose of a Student IDEnables you to sit for exams, enter the library, borrow books from the library and enjoy other campus facilities.

    d. Getting My Welcome GiftAll new students will be given a welcome gift and it can be collected from Student Central when you collect your Student ID card. If the gift is a merchandise voucher, you may use the voucher to redeem your gift from the Taylors Merchandise Shop (TMS) located at Syopz.

  • e. Getting My Uniform / ApparelAll Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts students are required to pay the fees for uniform, knife-set & safety shoes at the payment counter. These study kit items can be collected from the Taylors Merchandise Shop upon producing the receipt of payment with the items indicated on the receipt.

    All Health Sciences or Engineering students that require goggles and lab coats will be advised by their Academic Services Ofce on the collection of these items from Taylors Merchandise Shop.

The library is equipped with: 24/7 study areas, discussion rooms, multimedia rooms, theatrette, computers, printing & photocopying facilities.ICT Helpdesk The ICT Helpdesk provides services which include D7.11 1) Support for user enquiries and problems 2) Printing services 3) Provision and support of systems for the dissemination of information amongst students, academic and administrative staff.     a. Logging in to my Student Portal (Taylors Online)Student Portal is an online portal to disseminate information to all students. Announcements, notices and campus news are regularly posted on the Portal thus students are advised to log in regularly for important updates. Forms, policies, guidelines and advice / tips are also available here.

    To access: 1) Please ensure you change your computer password in the computer labs rst before you log in to the Student Portal 2) Log in to the Student Portal at http://portals.taylors.edu.my 3) Student ID : Key in your Student ID number 4) Password : The same password that you use to log in to the computers in campus. If you are unable to log in to the Student Portal, please check with the ICT Helpdesk.

    b. Logging in to my TIMeSTIMeS (Taylors Integrated Moodle e-Learning System) is an online learning platform providedby the University to facilitate learning for students. This online learning platform reects Taylorsinitiatives to embrace technology in teaching and learning and adopt blended learning as anintegral part of the curriculum. With TIMeS students and lecturers are able to discuss mattersrelating to respective modules (subjects) and retrieve lecture and tutorial materials.

    c.Logging in to ReWIND, Taylors Lecture Capture SystemReWIND @ Taylors is a technology that allows instructors to record what happens in their classrooms and make it available digitally to students. All lectures conducted in lecture theatres (LTs) will be recorded automatically. Students are now able to fast-forward, rewind, or skip to particular segments they desire, hence enabling them to learn in a self-directed and personalized manner, anytime, anywhere. The source of the content will be a combination of audio, video, and content from the projector.

    To access: 1) Log in to TIMeS2) Click on the module and look for ReWIND link

    d. Logging in to my Student Central Portal (Online Service Requests)To enable you to obtain the latest on campus goings-on and submit online service requests.

    To access:1) Log in to the Student Portal2) On the right-hand side panel of the Home page, click on the: Student Central link

    e. Logging in to Taylors LibraryTo nd out the various resources, services and facilities available in our library, please log into http://taylorslibrary.taylors.edu.my/

    You need your student ID card to borrow books. Library opening hours are as below:Monday Friday : 8.00am 9.00pmSaturday : 9.00am 5.00pmSunday & Public holidays : Closed

    (The opening hours are subject to change. Please log in to the library website for latest information)

    You may send your comments, suggestions and feedback to the library using the online form at http://taylorslibrary.taylors.edu.my/suggestion_feedbacks or email to [email protected]

    Taylors Lakeside Library is also on Facebook. Visit the Facebook page (search for Taylors Lakeside Library) and get almost instant feedback on your comments.

    f. Logging in to Taylors Student Email ServiceIt is important that you log into your Taylors student email account regularly for communicationfrom the University.

    Students can send and receive e-mails from virtually any webconnected computer andmaintain one e-mail address for life as they may keep and use their [email protected] [email protected] after graduation or the completion of their education with the university.

    To access:Obtain your new email address via Student Central Portal: Click on Student Central link Click on Update Student Prole under Quick Links Your email address format will be as following:[email protected] e.g. ([email protected]) [email protected] e.g. ([email protected])

    Then sign in to get started at https://outlook.taylors.edu.my or log on to the Student Portal, under myQuick Links, and click on the Student Email tab.

    Then you will be directed to the Outlook Page Subsequent logins will direct you to the sign in page. Sign in using your new email address and password.

    g. Download Student HandbookAll students are encouraged to obtain essential information on their studies with TaylorsUniversity via the Student Handbook and other guides related to their programme. It isimportant that students read and understand the information contained in the Handbook andadhere to the University policies, procedures, rules and regulations outline in the document.

    a. Pedestrian Access CardAn access card will be issued to students who are staying in the PJS 7 areas or are taking theRapidKL Bus U623 to Lakeside Campus and requiring access via the pedestrian gate.

    1. To get one, please apply from Student Central with the following documents: Evidence of living in PJS 7 such as tenancy agreement or ofcial receipt from landlord or conrmation letter from landlord (for those renting a place); OR Evidence of living in a family home in PJS 7 such as utilities bills (in own or parents name); OR Evidence of taking RapidKL bus U623 to Lakeside Campus such as past one week bus tickets, Touch N Go card or a season bus pass AND RM100 security deposit (refundable)2. This pedestrian access card is non-transferable and students should immediately report loss card to Student Central. RM100 will be imposed for every replacement access card. 3. Students who have moved out of PJS 7 or have graduated are required to return the access card to Student Central. Otherwise the security deposit will not be refunded.4. Taylors University reserves the rights to refuse entry or conscate the access card from students who are found using another persons access card or parking their car outside Taylors University premises at PJS 7. In the event the card is conscated due to misuse, the student is required to wait at least one month before submitting a new application and paying another RM100 as deposit for the new card. The deposit paid for the conscated card will be forfeited.5. No tailgating is allowed as each student must possess their own access card.6. The pedestrian gate will be opened from 6am to 1am daily.

    b. Dress Code Policy Hair Avoid excessive colouring / highlighting and ensure it is always neat.

    Attire Always use your student tag. Avoid offensive, suggestive, indecent language / artwork on clothes. Avoid inappropriate or offensive clothes.

    Footwear Slippers and ip-ops are not allowed.

    Eyewear Sunglasses cannot be worn in classrooms; except for medical reasons.

    c. Shuttle Bus ServiceThe shuttle service between Lakeside Campus and surrounding areas is open to all TaylorsUniversity students and the bus schedule is available on Student Portal and Student CentralPortal for downloading.

    Please take note that the shuttle service will not be available on Sundays, Public Holidays andReplacement Public Holidays and the schedule may change during major holiday seasons.

    Please look out for announcements in the Student Portal regularly.Please contact Student Central at 03-5629 5026 or email [email protected] you have any queries about the shuttle service.

    d. Smoke-Free Campus Environment

    Smoking of any type (including e-cigarette) is not permitted on Taylors University grounds. The University ground is clearly separated from the Commercial Block (The Boardwalk) by the demarcation stickers shown as above. Students found smoking on the University grounds will face the below consequences:

    First-time offenders will be given a verbal warning and their details will be recorded in a database by Student Central.

    For a second offence, the student will be ned RM50 and receive a warning letter from theUniversity.

    If a third offence is committed, the student will be ned RM100 and be subjected to disciplinary action with possible suspension.

    For more information on this topic, please refer to your Student Handbook.

    e. Lockers for RentalLockers are available for rental at various locations around campus.

    Applications can be made online at the Student Central Portal by submitting the LockerApplication form. You will be informed of your application status via email.

    You will need to purchase your own padlock for the locker and will be responsible for themaintenance and cleanliness of the locker during your rental duration.

    Please ensure you read and understand the Terms & Conditions and Guidelines for LockerApplicant before making an application.

    Rental rates are as follows:RM100 for 12 months RM50 for 6 months RM30 for 3 months RM20 for 2 months

    f. Parking System at Lakeside CampusParking stickers are available @ Student Central, Level 2, Block A. Application for parking sticker can be submitted online via the Student Central Portal.     Getting Started: Things I need to do rst

    g. Lost & FoundStudent Central administers a Lost & Found service. To report a lost item, you are encouragedto lodge an online report via the Student Central Portal. This will enable us to contact you if youritem is found.

    In the event you have found an item, you can hand it over to any of our Student Advisors atStudent Central, Level 2, Block A.

    h. Printing CreditFor purchase / top-up of printing credit, use the automated Pay Station at the Library / PaymentCounter. More information is available at the ICT Helpdesk.

    i. Sports FacilitiesThe Sports & Recreation Centre will facilitate the booking and maintenance of the various sportsfacilities made available for students use. Application for booking of sports / recreational facilitiescan be submitted online via the Student Central Portal. You will be informed of your bookingstatus via email.

    The Uni Gym and swimming pool are located at The Boardwalk and the gym membership can beobtained via the Student Central Portal. Payment for membership can be made at the Uni Gymcounter either quarterly (RM60), half-yearly (RM120) or yearly (RM240).

    Need help? You can count on us! 1. Need help with your study skills and soft skills? Visit the LASC! The Learning & Academic Skills Centre or better known as LASC @INTELLECT is located at Block C, Level 2. Our Learning Advisers are ready to assist you to adjust effectively to your university studies by helping you build on your study skills techniques like mind-mapping & note taking as well as soft skills development like presentation skills, goal-setting, leadership skills, etc. We also provide peer-led academic study sessions @ Peer Assisted Learning Services (PALS) for difcult subjects. Our services are free and personalized.

    2. Need help with your emotional needs? Visit the CPSC! If you feel you are experiencing difculties in adjusting to university life, having relationship or personal issues and need to talk to someone, please visit the Counselling and Psychological Services Centre at Block A, Level 2 or call us at 03-56295022. Opening hours is 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of working hours, you may call Befrienders KL at 03-79568144.

    3. Need urgent medical attention? Visit the HSC! Health Services Centre (HSC) is located at Block C, Level 1. The nurses provide professional medical services for minor physical illnesses or injuries that students may face while at Taylors University. Opening hours is 8am-6pm, Monday to Friday. HSC hotline number is 012-2583371. In cases of emergency, please call 999 or seek medical attention from the nearest hospital.

    4. Need urgent security attention? Visit the Security Control Room! The Security Control Room is located at the end of Block B, Level 1 and the security personnel are there to assist you on security matters/concerns. Call them at 03-5629 5214 for urgent matters.
