Acceptable use of informationtechnology resources policy

QUT provides information facilities to its staff and students for its

day-to-day operations. These include the desktop environment, network

facilities, IT Infrastructure and access to the Internet.

QUT facilities may not be used for any purpose associated with the

transmission, viewing or publication of pornography or other illicit or

offensive material; personal commercial interests; soliciting donations

for political parties or religious groups; publication of sites unrelated toUniversity activities; personal observations using inappropriate or

offensive language, or any unlawful purpose.

When users renew their access account passwords they are always

reminded that the University monitors its information assets and carries out

detailed security audits of systems and data as required. Network activity

is logged and may be used to investigate faults, security breaches and

inappropriate or unlawful use. The University reserves the right to access

individual files.

 There is a continuing need to be vigilant about the proper

use of QUT facilities.

Breaches to the Acceptable use of information technology resources policy

by staff or students may be treated as misconduct.

Access to QUT resources

Obtain you Student ID rom the Student CentreGo to www.studentsevices.qut.edu.au/info/id

Obtain your student ID card rom the Student Centre on campus. You must

have current enrolment details in QUT Virtual, and will be required to showphotographic proo o identity to obtain your student ID card.

 Your student ID card enables you to:• be identiied when you attend examinations• borrow resources rom the QUT Library• access student computer labs• travel on the intercampus shuttle bus.

Full-time students enrolled in an Austudy-eligible course will receive aQueensland Rail (QR) logo on their student ID cards, which entitles them

to concessional rates on public transport.

Please note that lost cards will incur a $15 replacement ee.

Gain access to QUT’s online services

 Your QUT Access username and password provides you with secure accessto all major online services at QUT.

QTAC commencing students receive their QUT Access username andpassword online, ater accepting their course using the QTAC online service.

 All other commencing students receive their QUT Access username and

password in the letter o oer.

I you are a continuing student but are commencing a new course, you

should use your old QUT Access username and password.

 The Acceptable use o inormation technology resources policy is therules and conditions about QUT’s online services. You must accept these

rules when:• you irst access QUT’s online services• you change your password.

 You will be prompted to change your password every 60 days.

Getting Started

1. Start your web browser.2. Go to the QUT home page www.qut.edu.au and click on Compute

Retrieve your QUT Access password

 The irst time you change your QUT Access password, you will be askedto setup your Challenge Response Answers. With Challenge Response

 Answers you will be able to obtain a new QUT Access password online i you orget your current one.

Set up your CHallenGe reSponSe anSwerS

Commencing students:

1. Login to QUT Access https://access.qut.edu.au

2. Select the I wish to set up my Challenge Response answers option.3. Then ollow the prompts.

 All QUT students and sta can change their Challenge Response Answers

at any time:1. Log into the QUT Access webpage at https://access.qut.edu.au

2. Click on the Change Challenge Response Answers link .3. Submit correct answers to at least three questions.

retrieVe your paSSword

 You can change your password using any Internet web browser:

1. Go to the QUT Access webpage https://access.qut.edu.au then you will

be re-directed to another page. Once there, click on the QUT tab.2. Click the Forgotten your password? link on the QUT Login page.

3. Enter your username and ollow the prompts.4. You will then be presented with a list o Challenge Response Questions,

you must answer at least three questions correctly.5. You will then be directed to create a new password.

Check your assessment

Go to you unit site on http://blackboad.qut.edu.au

SafeAssign is a voluntary text-matching and citation-checking tool in QUTBlackboard. It allows students to check their assignments and determinepossible instances o plagiarism. The use o the tool is or educative

purposes only and is entirely voluntary or unit coordinators and students.

Submitting an assignment to SafeAssign does not constitute a fomal

assignment submission. Assignments must still be submitted through the

appropriate channels determined by the unit coordinator and/or AssignmentMinder.

SaeAssign is only accessible to students in units where the unit coordinatorhas included sae assignment as part o the assessment. Consult your unitcoordinator or inomation about using SaeAssign in your unit.

Internet Access Service (IAS) is the service that allows all students to

gain access to the Internet via QUT.

IAS ensures that students receive reasonable and equitable access tothe Internet. Consequently, all students are given an IAS quota that is

considered to be suicient to complete their academic work. This quotais dependent on your enrolment status. You can purchase additional IAS

quota at any QUT Printing Services counter or online using QUTPay viaQUT Virtual.

eduoam is a global initiative oering wireless network access to studentsrom more than 20 Australian Universities and more than 500 sites in 40

countries worldwide, using their institution’s username and password.

QUT students can access the eduoam wireless network at QUTand participating non-QUT institutions via their QUT Access

IT Security is essential or the saety o your computer and personal details.

I you access the Internet it is essential to turn on irewalls, installanti-virus sotware and download patches to avoid having computer

glitches or personal details (such as website usernames and passwords)stolen. This is also essential or your home computer. Computers in QUT’s

central and aculty labs use standard operating environments that aremanaged to ensure they comply with QUT’s IT Security standards.

IT Security goes hand-in-hand with personal security. Without securing yourcomputer physically you are still vulnerable.
