The following types of financial assistance are avai lable to undergraduate students a t Spartanburg Technical College. Apply early to have the best chance of receiving aid. Applications are considered only as long as funds are available. Basic Grant applications should be submitted a t l eas t 6-8 weeks prior to enrollment. Applications for TEC aid programs (work-study jobs, loans, e t c . ) are considered up unti 1 two weeks before the t e n begins (unless monies run out e a r l i e r ) . Late applications will not be processed until a f t e r Registration.

BASIC GRANTS: These are available to ful l or part- time undergraduate students who do not possess a baccalaureate degree. A separate application i s required and may be obtained from the College, high schools, a n d post offices. E l ig ib i l i ty i s based on financial need and a student may be awarded up to $912 per year. Basic Grants do not have to be repaid.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS : These scholarships are given to area Vocational Schools. Selection of each recipient will be made by the Director of the following Spartanburg County Vocational Schools: Daniel Morgan Vocational School, H . B . Swofford Vocational School, and R. D. Anderson Vocational School. One outstanding student a t each of the three schools will be selected.

DENTAL ASSISTANT SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship i s presented by the local A . D . A . A . Chapter. A student must submit a Financial Aid application and must be accepted in the Dental Assistant program a t Spartanburg Technical College. Selection i s based on academic qualifications and financial aid.

LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP: Spartanburg Technical College has several scholarships that have been presented by area industries to provide financial assistance to children of the i r employees. Further information may be obtained from the Financial Aid Office.

ELLIS D. SLATER LOAN: This loan program has been established to a s s i s t worthy and needystudents to achieve educational objectives in vochtional and technical training a t Spartanburg Technical College. Interest on this loan i s a t a ra te of 2% and the loan must be repaid by the end of each quarter.

AUTOMOTIVE LOAN FUND: This loan i s for Automotive students only. A 2% interest rate must be repaid and the loan must be repaid by the end of the quarter.

STUDENT RESOURCE LOAN: This loan was established for new VA students. Pr ior i ty must be given to new VA students who have never received a VA check and need help with tui t ion. Also, this loan must be repaid by the end of the quarter and a 2% in te res t charge i s added.

SOUTH CAROLINA STUDENT LOAN CORP.: Students may borrow up to $1,500 per year fmm a bank o r other lending inst i tut ion. Loans are insured by the Federal Government. Repayment begins ten months a f te r the student graduates or ceases to be enrolled. The interest rate i s 7% annually on the outstanding principal balance of the loan, to which i s added an insurance premium for the term of the loan. This insurance premium of !a of 1% on the loan wi 11 be collected from the student when the loan i s made.

COLLEGE WORK-STUDY PROGRAf.1: The College Work-Study Program provides part-time employment for students who are in need of earnings from such employment to meet thei r educational expenses. Eligible students may work an average of 10-15 hours per week. Work may be on campus or off-campus for a pub1 i c or non-profi t private agency. The average salary i s $2.20 per hour or about $20 - $30 per week.

COMPREHENSIVE MANPOWER PROGRAM (CMP) : This federal ly funded program provides t z t i o n , books, and funds for other educational expenses. Selection of e l ig ib le recipients i s made by the Employment Office. Income and need for training i s taken into consideration in selection.

4 . Each organization must maintain a membership of regular ly registered students. Menhership l i s t should be on f i l e i n the Oean of Students Of f ice

3. Submit Request to Organize signed by a t l eas t ten menbers and a l e t t e r from the facu l ty sponsor to the Dean o f Students.

4. A representative o f the organization w i l l present the request t o the Student A c t i v i t i e s Cornnittee.

5. Af ter adoption by the Student A c t i v i t i e s Comi ttee, the request wi ll be forwarded t o the College Admini s t r a t i on for approval.

6. The organization cannot be recognized u n t i l approved by the College Administration.

7 . Within three weeks a f t e r approval, a const i tu t ion must be submitted t o the Oean of Students, i n addit ion t o a l i s t o f o f f i ce rs and members.

Conduct and Discipline

Students enrolled at Spananburg TEC are considered to be responsi- ble persons. Enrollment indicates the student's wrllingness to abide by the generally accepted pnnciples of good conduct and to familiarize himself with school policies.

The College reserves the right to dismiss a student for misconduct or a violation of student regulalrons. A student dism~ssed for infraction of student regulaaons is not entitled to honorable withdrawal privileges.

STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT (From Statewide TEC Student Code-Article VII: Proxribed Con-

duct) The following conduct is proscribed and upon violation of such pros.

criptions a student shall be subject to review by the Student Faculty Behavior Committee. However, it is expected that the more severe sanctions of suspension and expulsion will be imposed sparingly and only for more extreme or aggravated violations or for repeated violations.

A. Academic dishonesty in all forms including, but without being limlted to, cheating on tests. plagiarism. and collusion. 1. Cheating on tests includes:

(a) copying from another student's test paper. (b) using materials durlng a test not authorized by the penon

giving the test: (c) collaborating with any other person during a test without

authority. (d) knowingly obtaining. uwng, buying. selling, transporting, or

soliciting in whole or in part the contents of an unadminis- tered test;

(e) bribing any other person to obtain an unadministered test or information about an unadminisrered test. and

(1) substituting for another student or permitting any other person to substitute for oneself. to take a lest

2. "Plagiarism" means the appropriation of any other person's work and the unacknowledged incorporation of that work in one's own work offered for credit.

3. "Collusion" means the unauthorized collaboration with any other person in preparing work offered for credlt.

B. Falsihng any information with intent to deceive. C. Falsifying any information to the Student-Faculty Behavior Com-

mittee with the intent to deceive, the intimidation of witnesses. the destruction of evidence with the intent to deny its presentation to the Student-Faculty Behavior Committee when properly notified to appear.

D. Forgery. alteration. or mlsuse ot College documents. records, or identification cards.

E. Physically abusing or intentionally inflicting severe emotional dis- tress upon another member of the College community occurring on campus. or physically abusing or intentionally inflicting severe emotional distress upon a non-member of the College community on the campus.

F Theft or malicious deshuctlon. damage. or missuse of College property. or private property of another member of the College community whether occurring on or off campus: or theft, or malici- ous destruction. damage or misuse on campus of property of a non-member of the College community.

G. Engaging In any activity designed to disrupt the educational pro. cess of the College.

H Holding of student rallies in violation of time. place. and manner of specihed regulations

I Unauthorized entry upon the property of the College or into a College facility or any portion [hereof wh~ch has been reserved. resrrrcred in use or placed off lim~ts: unauthorized presence in any College facility after closing hours, or unauthorized possession or use of a key to any College facillty

J Possession or use on campus of any firearm or other dangerous weapon or incendiary device or explos~ve unless such possession or use has been authonzed by the College.

K. Possession, use, or distribution oncampusof any narcotic. danger. ous. or unlawful drugs or alcoholic beverages as defined by the laws of the United States or the State of South Carolina.

L Violation of administration approved College polrcies or South Carolina and Federal laws while on campus or off campus when participating in a College sponsored activity

Section 3.01 CONDUCT OF CLASSES Discussion and expression of all vlews relevant to the subject matter 1s

recognized as necessary to the educational process. but students have no right to infringe on the freedom of instructors to teach or the right of other studenls to learn. If a student behaves disruptively in class after the inshctor has explained the unacceptability of such conduct, the insnuc- tormoy temporarily disrnrss the student from class and refer the maner to the Dean of Students or to the Associate Director.

Section 3.02 ACADEMIC EVALUATION Academic evaluation of student performance may be neither arbitrary

nor capricious and shall be made on the basis of prev~ously announced criteria.

Spartanburg TEC's library f ac i l i t i e s were designed to seat over 150 students and shelve over 25,000 volumes. Individual study carrels and small conference rooms are available for library use. Over 7,800 square feet of floor space are allocated to library functions.

The library subscribes t o over 235 periodicals and daily newspapers. A balanced collection of books, including general works in addition to technical and professional, i s maintained. A reference collection i s included.

F. Re-admission - To be re-admitted a f t e r a per iod o f suspension, the student must submit an app l i ca t i on f o r admission d i r e c t l y t o the Dean o f Students. I f approved by the D iv i s ion Dean and the Dean of Students, the student w i l l en ter under a probationary s ta tus f o r the f i r s t quar ter of enrol lment.
