Letter from the
President:
From Miss Bascetta and Kayla JohnsonStudent Government Advisor, Student Government President
This has been an exciting year at Gotham Avenue School.
Our elections were held in the beginning of the school year. After much preparation and hard work, we elected the following officials to office: Kayla Johnson as President, Rosa Escobar as Vice President and Treasurer, and Megan Ortiz as Secretary.
We wanted to show our love of Gotham Avenue and increase our school spirit this year. So we decided to have a school mascot that you picked! We are now the Gotham Avenue Gray Wolves. This year we also have organized Spirit Days, where we show our love for Gotham Avenue by dressing up in our school colors. Winning classes have received prizes for the participation.
In our after school meetings we work hard to advocate for our peers. We discuss important current matters in the building, concerns students have, and how we can reach out the other students and address their needs. We’re learning in these meetings how to take initiative, acts as leaders within our roles, and take on responsibilities that demonstrate our leadership qualities. We’re also working on skills that help us mediate conflicts with our peers.
As a part of our Student Government responsibilities, we are striving to be more charitable. Our first initiative was to support our new Mascot, the Gray Wolf, by fundraising and donating to the World Wildlife Fund to symbolically adopt the Gray Wolf. We are about to launch our campaign to support Pennies for Patients. Get ready to help others!
We have many exciting opportunities coming up for everyone to participate in, and we look forward to more Spirit Days, Charities, Fundraisers and so much more. Student Government is excited to be leading our school in all of these activities, and we wish everyone a great school year.
Remember: Student voices make great choices!
