Financial Support and your Course• The type of financial support you receive

depends on the course you wish to study

• Some courses are “fully NHS funded”, others are “partially NHS funded” and partially funded by Student Finance England (or equivalent)

• This presentation is split into these two parts

- Government loans are available for all students to cover the fees in full

- These are not dependent on household income

• Postcode and grades - £500Students who live in a low participation area

in Sheffield and the surrounding region and achieve A,B,B or higher (or equivalent) at A-Level regardless of household income

Sheffield Bursary Scheme

• All care leavers and student carers automatically receive a £4,500 bursary

Fully funded NHS courses

You apply for funding from the National Health Service Business Services Authority (NHSBSA)

E.g. Dental Hygeinist, Dental Therapist and Years 5+ of Medicine and Dentistry

NHS Funded Years

• Your tuition fees are paid for you by the NHS

• You receive a bursary and a grant from the NHS towards your living costs

• You can still apply for a maintenance loan from Student Finance England

NHS Student Support• You will receive the following support for living

costs :

• Non means tested grant - £1,000

• Means tested bursary – up to £4,443

• Non means tested Maintenance Loan from Student Finance England – £2,324

• The amount you receive depends on whether you live away from home whilst you study and how many weeks your course year lasts for

Student Loan Repayments

• Repayments start:

- The April after you graduate

- When you are earning over £21,000

• Interest charged

• Anything unpaid after 30years is written off

• You pay back 9% of anything over £21,000 that you earn

• Therefore if you earn £22,000; you repay 9% of £1000 - £90 per year or £7.50 per month

• Repayments are based on what you earn – not what you owe
