in completing the World of Work Skills Certificate you have to critically reflect on your qualities and skills. Realising your skills and competences helps you to review your strengths which make you stand apart from your competitors at interviews as well as enabling you to identify areas to improve. in reality when so many graduates are competing for one role within a company this certificate gives you an edge which will allow you to stand apart. The interview in particular is great preparation for future formal interviews and definitely boosts your confidence.

My involvement with the World of Work Skills Certificate was extremely useful. i am happy i completed the World of Work statements as it highlighted my strengths and weaknesses and how i have demonstrated World of Work skills during work experiences allowed me to understand my ideal work environment. Skills that i didn’t realise in my past projects while on placement were revealed in Making Things Happen and i understood a lot about myself. My final interview was with one of the biggest iT firms in the UK and i received good feedback. i am grateful to lJMU for offering this opportunity; one that i would advise my peers to take.

Having completed my World of Work Skills Certificate i can honestly say that it has helped me enormously. it made me reflect on my skills that i have gained through my degree and elsewhere and helped to use these to the best of my ability. The World of Work Skills Certificate interview was also excellent experience for me. it helped me to prepare for the next step after graduation which was applying for jobs and going through the dreaded interview process. Having the interview really helped me to practice how to conduct myself and reflect myself in the best possible light at job interviews. Having my World of Work Skills Certificate is something which i think will really help me stand out to employers and that can only be a good thing.

The World of Work programme is one of the most beneficial aspects of a degree at LJMU. The World of Work Skills Certificate enables you to critically evaluate your life experiences and the ways in which they tie into your everyday life, something which is essen-tial if you want to be successful in job interviews. The final interview is an excellent method of preparing yourself for job inter-views in your chosen sector whilst you can use the feedback to learn from your mistakes. i highly recommend the World of Work Skills Certificate to any student wanting to make themselves stand out from the thousands of other graduates.

The World of Work Careers Centre team were really helpful with my statement and also giving me advice on producing a skills based Cv. i would definitely recommend any undergraduate to complete the World of Work Skills Certificate, especially given the competition graduates face in today’s society.

The World of Work Skills Certificate process has made me realistically think about my skills and what i want to do af-ter graduation. As well as giving me more experience of for-mal interviews, the Skills Certificate interview allowed me to find out first hand from an employer of my chosen sector what they are looking for when recruiting graduates. i feel more prepared to find the right job for me, and i know that the World of Work Skills Certificate will help me to achieve it.

i found the experience of the final World of Work Skills Certificate employer interview particularly valuable. i’d never had such a formal interview before and it has really taken away the fear of the unknown. The employer who interviewed me provided detailed feedback which described what i’d answered well and where i needed to improve. i think i’ll feel much less stressed when it comes to the real thing as i feel really prepared now i’ve had that experience.

When i attended the World of Work Boot Camp i didn’t have a clue about my skills, and i came out knowing exactly what they were. Writing a Gold Statement allowed me to research an organisation that i could see myself working in and disregard other organisations that wouldn’t suit my values and motivations. By writing my state-ment i was able to answer the questions in my interview using a range of examples showing the wide range of knowl-edge and skills i have gained both from studying at LJMU and also from my work experience. The World of Work Skills Certificate process gave me the confidence and skills to secure work placement in a Pr company.

As soon as i learned about the World of Work Skills Certificate and it’s benefits i knew it was worth pursuing. The graduate job market is extremely competitive at the moment and any opportunity, no matter how small, to ‘get ahead’ should be seized. But that wouldn’t be doing the World of Work Skills Certificate justice - it’s a big opportunity to have that something extra to take to employers which is why i would undoubtedly advise any student at LJMU to embrace the programme. it has left me feeling confident about my ability, focused in my aspirations and prepared to achieve what i want in life.

From the workshops to the writing of the World of Work statements you are developed and guided into a critical look inwards, to dig deep down and unveil those vital qualities and abilities that employers look for. The World of Work Skills Certificate interview with a graduate employer gives you a first hand experience of what to expect in the real world of the job market. This experience has further reinforced my positive selling points and together with my qualifications and experiences, turned me into a full package for any employer.

The completion of my World of Work gold statement has helped me to be more aware of the skills that l have developed over my period of study at LJMU and life experiences. This process has made me to identify my values and what is important to me. i have gained more confidence in myself, which will enable me to confidently tell an employer what l have to offer them in the role applied for during an interview. The World of Work Skills Certificate interview was a fantastic avenue to express myself and to get a feedback in order to improve where l am lacking, which will help me when l am in an interview as well as when applying for jobs.

The whole World of Work Skills Certificate process has been very a positive experience for me. Completing the Gold state-ment allowed me to analytically reflect on my experiences from many different situations enabling me to properly set out my per-sonal skills, strengths and qualities which i feel i can bring to my chosen sector. The World of Work Skills Certificate interview gave me the opportunity to express my knowledge and experiences of working within the education sector and i was also then able to gain fundamental feedback from a professional with many years experience of working within the education sector. i would recommend the World of Work Skills Certificate to all students. The staff involved are also very helpful and informative.

The World of Work Skills Certificate is a great way to express and show your skills and qualities which can get you ready for the working world. The Making Things Happen section of the statement allowed me to see qualities and skills that i had without realising. You are made aware of projects that you have completed without realising that your are completing a project. To add the World of Work Certificate to your Cv makes you stand out from other graduates as you show employers what you are capable of and that you have the skills to engage in the world of work.

The World of Work Skills Certificate has been a very worthwhile experience. it has really made me think about what i have to offer employers and helped me assess my own personal qualities and possible weaknesses. it was the first time i analysed myself as a professional and thought about what i can offer to employers in this very competitive graduate job market. it prepared me for what is in store after my degree and helped me a great deal when it came to selling my skills to employers and realising what is important to employers. it also made me think about what jobs i am suited to and what would be required from me in those jobs.

i found the self-awareness stage of the World of Work Skills Certificate particularly useful; it tells you a lot about you and what you need, the strengths and the weaknesses you have, and what areas you need to improve on. i think at the end the interview was very helpful and the feedback from the interview. it gives you confidence going to an interview that you can answer the questions the employer may ask.

relevant work experience is absolutely crucial in terms of getting you an interview. For the applications we get the general academic standard is uniformly high so there’s not a lot to choose academically between a lot of the applicants. What we are therefore looking for is people who have really got the hunger to be a journalist and the way to do that is to demonstrate they are serious about being a journalist is by having done a lot of relevant and varied work experience.

As an employer we tend to find new graduates lack some really basic skills that make a huge difference to their employability and how useful they are to Sony. Things like ethics, attitude, the way that they impact at work, the way that they approach things, their emotional intelligence and these are all skills that are being covered by lJMU’s World of Work Programme. We desperately need good young blood to come in but if they can’t relate to people, write well, produce good documentation, present themselves well, work with teams, act in a profesional manner, and do all the things that the World of Work Skills Certificate shows you, then they stand out for the wrong reasons. you can see those who haven’t done it and you can see those who have. And the ones who have are the ones who tend to do well in their career.

The Royal College of Nursing values the focus on emotional skills developed through the World of Work Skills Certificate. Nursing is about caring for people when they are often at their most vulnerable and can often be a job that asks people to go above and beyond for those in need. The experience of nursing students can be enhanced by completing the World of Work Skills Certificate and will really improve their chances of securing a job when they finish their course.

The structure of the World of Work programme is excellent because it really does listen to what businesses need. Having seen the competencies covered in the World of Work Skills Certificate they relate almost identically to those that we look for in students and therefore anyone who does the Skills Certificate and completes the tasks associated with that is really setting themselves up very well for a job within not only the organisation i work but lots of other organisations too who have very similar requirements from their graduates. i think it is a fantastic programme.

The competition is enormous and everybody wants that particular job you also want. KlM look for people who un-derstand how to work with people, how to deliver a project, how to be a good contributor in teams, how to communicate with various stakeholders, and who know how to make things happen, all from day one. The World of Work Programme is unique so take advantage and i’m sure you will get that dream job.

The students that successfully complete this programme will have the opportunity to develop the core values integral to Kellogg’s including passion, accountability, drive for success and integrity. For this reason kellogg is a big advocate of the World of Work Programme.

Employers really sort through why that person wants to work for them.

if the candidate doesn’t know about your company it doesn’t give you a feel

that it’s where they want to be. The more candidates prepare them-

selves the better they will come off, which is why the World of Work

Skills Certificate is so good because of the interview and feedback

you receive. it simulates the real thing, giving you an idea of where you are.

As an employer it ensures that we are getting better calibre students

more aware of what’s needed in the workplace.

The World of Work programme links academic learning to work-based experiential learning. it can provide a real evidence based workplace history similar to a reference from a previous employer and the skills you need in structured interviews. in this challenging job market often academic excellence alone is not enough – the World of Work programme has the potential to give students a real competitive edge.

GRADUATE SKILLSWRITTEN COMMUNICATION

As a trainee solicitor, one of the most important skills to have is to be able to communicate in writing in a manner which is legally accurate, commercially relevant and appropriate to the recipient in terms of language and tone. Afterall, we are selling our advice to clients. Applicants’ aptitude for written communication will be demonstrated through their application form which contains questions requiring longer answers. They should take care when completing multiple forms at the same time, avoid copying and pasting as this can lead to typographical errors, and try to always tailor an answer to the particular firm you are applying for. This will make the application stand out from others, but is also ex-cellent practice for the future as much of the advice we give uses the same legal principles, but it must be tailored to the individual client.

GRADUATE SKILLSTEAm WoRKInG & InTERpERSonAL SKILLS

The ability to work effectively with others is extremely important for anyone hoping to work in a solicitors’ firm, whatever your level of seniority. As a trainee solicitor, you will be required to call upon help and advice from others regularly if you have conduct of your own files. in addition, you will also assist other fee earners and must be able to both take instruction and instruct others. interpersonal skills also extend to being able to work effectively with solicitors on the other side and clients – if everyone gets on, matters (whether contentious or non-contentious) can progress much more quickly and easily. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their ability to work well with others by using examples from previous jobs, clubs or societies that they are involved in.

For graduates wanting to come and work in education; i think the key that sets them apart is to have some experience, probably voluntary experience, of working with young people in some context, whether it’s through education 11-18, through summer camp or through voluntary groups in the com-munity. That sets them apart from a graduate who applies because there is noth-ing else out there. it shows a real desire to work with young people and gives a warmth to the application.
