Living on campus is convenient, affordable, and fun! CAMPUS LIFE STUDENT ACTIVITIES “We Put the “U” in Fun” Student Activities is located in Berns Student Center. Students interested in learning about and executing special events, alternative programs, event planning, facilities management and student entertainment may wish to participate in Student Activities Committee (SAC). For the past few years, the Student Activities Committee has been recognized by the Campus Activities Magazine as being one of the top programming boards in the nation. Monarch Madness Monarch Madness is a series of alternate student activities usually taking place on Wednesday nights from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. Other activities take place on the weekends, time, place, and event TBA. A variety of events are held on campus, such as talent shows, movie and a meal, game shows, cookouts, comedy night, a Hawaiian luau, casino night, and special performers. Students participating in Monarch Madness also enjoy events off campus, such as Hockey Games with local team the Fire Antz, “Destination Unknown,” and “Bowling for Dollars.” SMALL TALK Student Newspaper Small Talk, the student newspaper, was established in 1961 and is published bi-weekly during the semester. e staff always welcomes story ideas and story submissions from the Methodist University community. Our goal is to provide comprehensive, fair, and balanced coverage throughout the year. We also publish the annual yearbook. e yearbook is delivered in April of each year and covers the semester’s highlighted events, sport teams, and clubs and organizations. GREEK LIFE Greek Life at Methodist University provides the opportunity for students to participate in a unique experience. Currently, there are six Greek Organizations on campus. STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND SERVICESThe Division is comprised of 11 departments: Center for Personal Development, which houses Counseling and Psychological services and Accessibility Resources/Disability Services; Campus Life, which houses Student Activities, Greek Life and Student Media; Career Services; Campus Recreation; Health Services; Housing and Residence Life; International Programs; Police and Public Safety, and Study Abroad. The Division is also responsible for Judicial Affairs, Parent Programs, and for overseeing Sodexo, the organization that manages our campus food service program. The Division is committed to communicating and collaborating with the entire university community to assist students and accomplish the academic mission.

CAREER SERVICESCareer Services supports the mission of the Office of Student Development and Services and provides career services and resources to all students and alumni from the first year of college to graduation and beyond. The Career Services Office guides and instructs students and alumni in the development of the skills necessary to obtain employment and work satisfaction, to succeed in a diverse and rapidly changing workforce, and to manage their life-long career strategies.

HEALTH SERVICESHealth services are provided to students by a physician assistant and by a registered nurse. Services are available during clinic hours. The staff of Student Health Services provides presentations to the university community on a variety of wellness issues. The Health Center is located in West Hall and is open on a regular basis during the school year.

Students are encouraged to use the more cost effective student health services. Nursing services and physician assistant services are available to students at no cost. The physician assistant is available on a limited basis. His hours are posted in the Health Center. An appointment is necessary to see the P.A.

Flu shots are available beginning in September each year for a minimal charge at the Health Center.

We believe good health is essential to optimal success in college. Student health services provides treatment for acute illnesses, preventative health services, and health education.

INTERNATIONALPROGRAMSThe International Programs at Methodist University gathers students from around the world and provides them with the opportunity to receive an education at a private, liberal arts college in the United States. The International Programs Department is directed by Ms. Lyle Sheppard, and her role as an advisor is fundamental to the success of the students. At MU International Programs you will find a variety of cultures and you will learn how to share your own culture with the rest of the world.

CAMPUS RECREATIONMethodist University’s Campus Recreation & Intramural Programs (CRIMP) department aspires to enhance the university experience through leisure activities and alternative educational programs. CRIMP is committed to cultivating a healthy social environment through student-driven programs of fitness, sports, wellness, and outdoor adventure. Nimocks Fitness CenterThis fitness and recreation center contains a full line of cardio equipment, such as treadmills, striders, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, and spinning bikes, along with weight machines and an indoor track. This facility has a multi-purpose gym available for basketball and volleyball.

CENTER FOR PERSONAL DEVELOPMENTThe Center for Personal Development is here to help students become successful in their college life, in relationships and in everyday life. DINING SERVICESCampus Dining Services at Methodist University strives to provide students with an exceptional dining experience. Our dining facility offers students a wide variety of menu selections and daily vegetarian options. For quick and casual dining students can visit The Lion’s Den which is the home for Grill 155, Sub Connection, and We Proudly Serve Starbucks. Sodexo offers many types of meal plans to suit students’ individual needs. We look forward to serving you throughout your college experience at Methodist University.

PUBLIC SAFETYThe Department of Public Safety works 24-7-365 to help keep Methodist University a safer and more secure place to learn, live, work, and grow. Our continuing mission is to serve and protect the University community while fostering an atmosphere of integrity, courtesy, and respect. We seek to continuously improve the quality and scope of our services to meet the community’s changing needs. Dean Walker is the Vice President of Student Development and Services and Dean of Students. Dean Walker is the chief student affairs officer for the university and serves on the president’s cabinet. He is responsible for all aspects of student life, including 11 departments that provide student services and co-curricular programs for student development and engagement.

Dean Harris is the Associate Dean of Students. He assists the Dean of Students with the overall supervision and management of the division. Dean Harris directly oversees three departments: Campus Life, Housing & Residence Life and Campus Recreation. He also serves as the campus judicial officer.

Ms. Pope is the Program Coordinator for the division. She is responsible for the operational and functional aspects of the Student Development and Services office.
