AUDIO-VISUAL EQUIPMENT Blackwood & Camden
Contact the Instructional Support Department at [email protected] or (856) 227-7200 x 5065 to reserve equipment (TV/VCR, overhead projector, etc.) for use in your classroom at least 4 weeks in advance. In Camden, you can also submit a request form to Public Safety on the ground floor of College Hall.
Cherry HillEvery classroom is equipped with A-V equipment.
BOOKSTOREBookstore services are provided at all three college locations: in Blackwood on the 1st floor of the Otto R. Mauke Community Center, in Camden on the 1st floor of the Camden Technology Center, and in Cherry Hill on the 1st floor of the Rohrer building. Students will find new and used textbooks, supplemental reading materials, school and art supplies, College sportswear, gifts, cards, homework supplies and a variety of other materials. College bookstore hours are usually from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. Hours of operation are extended during registration and the beginning weeks of a semester.
CAMPUS ESCORT PROGRAMIf you must travel alone, regardless of time of day, the campus escort program provides a safe, reliable way to travel throughout the campus. Should anyone desire to be accompanied by a public safety officer to get to their car or public transportation, simply go to a “red” phone, or a blue light phone, any emergency call box or otherwise call direct to the Communications Center. Upon receipt of the request, an officer will be sent to escort you.
CHILDREN ON CAMPUS / IN CLASSCollege policy prohibits it, so suggest that the student contact the on-campus childcare center in Blackwood at (856) 227-6872. Please note that this goes for the children of faculty and staff, as well as students. In Camden, there is information available regarding child care centers in the city, although there is no longer an on-site day care. It’s a good idea to stipulate your policy on the subject in the course policies statement you distribute to the students.
CLASSROOM CHANGESAll room change requests should be directed to Meredith Amos via email, [email protected]
Those interested in reserving a room for a meeting or a computer lab for a only few days please utilize the R25 application located: https://r25.camdencc.edu/wv3/wv3_servlet/urd/run/wv_main.start

Every student is automatically subscribed to “Cougar Call” when registering for classes. Any time a student’s contact information changes, the student must update the system through WebAdvisor. The student may opt out at any time. It is recommended that students check their wireless phone provider regarding costs for incoming text or phone messages. The College is not responsible for any extra costs incurred as a result of receiving notifications via phone, e-mail or text. All information provided is completely confidential.

FIRE EVACUATION PROCEDURESInstructors shall:• discuss fire evacuation procedures with students on the first day of class. Follow
fire evacuation plans posted in your building. Have the students familiarize themselves with the nearest exits and emergency devices;
• re-determine a point approximately 200 feet from the building where the class will meet and attendance can be taken. The gathering point should not impede any emergency response vehicles;
• immediately evacuate their students from the building upon seeing smoke, fire or hearing the fire alarm;
• activate the fire alarm while exiting the building if there is fire or smoke and the alarm has not sounded;
• ensure that all windows and doors are closed and all students have exited the area. Do not lock doors! Locking doors will hinder the building search;
• help evacuate handicapped students from the building or to the nearest stair tower. Do not let anyone use the elevator during a fire.
• Immediately notify public safety or a member of the emergency response team of any handicapped person remaining in the building along with their location;
• take attendance and carry their attendance roster with them during any evacuation;• immediately report any missing students to public safety officers or any other
members of the emergency response team responding to the fire;
17
• report the location of any smoke or fire immediately to public safety officers or any other members of the emergency response team responding to the fire;
• not attempt to fight the fire without proper training. The priority is to evacuate all students safely from the building as well as protect their own safety;
• not re-enter the building under any circumstances until authorized by the Department of Public Safety.
HOLIDAYSThe college is open on Columbus Day (October), Election Day (November), President’s Day (February), and Good Friday (April). Classes are expected to be held. Please mention this to your students. Students coming from high school generally had these days off and may not be aware that the college is open. Refer to the Academic Calendars for observed holidays.

PARKING In order to utilize the reserved parking spaces, all instructors must display a valid faculty/staff decal on their vehicle. These decals expire every two years and must be replaced when expired. Use of an expired decal may result in a summons being issued by the Department of Public Safety. Instructors and staff are personally responsible for any summons issued to their vehicles. If driving a rental or borrowed vehicle other than the employees own, a temporary, reserved parking pass may be obtained from the Department of Public Safety.
Instructors may obtain parking decals from any public safety office during regular business hours. No overnight parking is allowed on any campus or branch location. Instructors leaving their vehicles on campus overnight in an emergency situation must inform the Department of Public Safety. Some free parking spaces are available for instructors at the Camden City Campus on the lot adjacent to College Hall. Spaces are allocated by availability only and will be accessible only during the instructor's specified teaching schedule. Check with public safety on availability. Employees using the Camden Technology Center parking garage are required to pay the parking fees. FERPA – FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACTThe Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, which became effective November 19, 1974 sets out requirements designed to protect the privacy of students. Specifically, the statute governs (1) access to records and (2) the release of such records.
In accordance with the federal act of 1974 and board policy 624 outlines these rights as follows:
All students at Camden County College are afforded certain rights under FERPA concerning their educational records. Generally, these include the right to inspect and review educational records, the right to have incorrect entries in educational records amended, and the right to have some control over the disclosure of information from those records. Several sections of FERPA have a direct impact on teaching instructors specifically:
• Except in limited situations, instructors cannot release or disclose student information to any third party, including a student’s parent(s) without the student’s consent.
• Without a student’s written consent, instructors cannot publicly post student grades with any identifier [typically name, student ID, or social security number] that would allow a third party to identify the specific individual to whom the publicly posted grade relates.
• Without a student’s signed release, an instructor cannot include in any letters of recommendation any information from the student’s educational records such as grades, GPA, etc. Instructors may, however, include personal observations and knowledge of the student without obtaining a release.
Even a summary explanation of the many other issues relating to FERPA is far beyond the scope of this handbook. Questions concerning the application of FERPA to other situations should be referred to the Office of Enrollment and Student Services at ext. 4371.
GUIDE FOR DEALING WITH STUDENT PROBLEMSThe primary responsibility for managing the classroom environment rests with faculty members who are authorized to remove students from class for behavior that threatens others, or in any way impedes the teaching and learning process. If such a student refuses the faculty member’s request to leave, the faculty member may request the assistance of Public Safety to remove the student from class. When a faculty member has removed the student from class for disruptive behavior and deems it necessary to preclude the student from returning to this particular class, the faculty member should immediately file a misconduct complaint with the Dean of Students, or the responsible official at the Camden or Rohrer sites, who will follow the procedures set forth in the Student Code of Conduct to determine whether the student has violated the Code and if so, whether to impose sanctions.
HOW TO RESPOND TO PROBLEMS WITH STUDENTS
1. What do I do if a student is physically threatening, explicitly violent or verbally aggressive to me or another student?
a. Immediately dismiss the student and/or contact Public Safety from one of the red phones in the hallway to have him/her removed
24
b. Follow up with a written report to Public Safety, the Dean/Associate Dean of Student Affairs, and the department chair.

Public Safety: Blackwood: John Schuck x4288Camden: Sgt. John Gibson x3102Rohrer: Lee Waldron x6057
Student Affairs: Jim Canonica ([email protected]) Jackie Tenuto ([email protected])
2. What do I do if a student is disruptive or verbally or physically inappropriate (i.e., disrespectful, belligerent, refusing to pay attention or participate, causing discomfort to others)?
a. Give a verbal warning and if you feel it is appropriate, ask the student to leave the class. Try to do this privately, at first. Warn the student that there is a student code of behavior and continued disruption can lead to the student being dismissed from the class OR dismiss the student and require the student to speak with the chair of the department before returning to class.
b. Follow up a dismissal with an email to the department chair. In cases of sexual and/or racial harassment complaints, a written report must be submitted to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and the College’s Compliance Officer.
See the College’s Faculty and Student Handbooks for additional information.
PROCEDURES FOR PERMANENT REMOVAL OF A PROBLEM STUDENT
1. Send a written report to the department chairperson and Dean/Associate Dean of Student Affairs detailing your concerns and the steps you have taken to address the problem. For serious cases, if you are afraid or uneasy, you may request that the student be reassigned to another section and you may also request the presence of Public Safety during class.
2. The student case will come before the Disciplinary Review Board.
3. The student and the teacher will be notified of the outcome.
25
LATE REGISTRATION/ADMITTING STUDENTS TO CLASS According to College policy, late registration is usually allowed if only one class meeting has been missed. After a class has met more than once, late registration may be denied, or may be allowed with the written permission of the instructor or area dean. In preparation for the first class meeting, instructors should print out a class list using WebAdvisor for each section they are teaching on or before the first day of class. This class list will include the names and ID numbers of all students registered at the time of the printing of the list. Students who register thereafter and who are authorized to attend class will present a registration statement to the instructor, which includes the student’s schedule listing the course number, a status of “Add” for added or “Regis” for registered and the status date. After the late registration/drop and add period has ended, instructors should print out an updated class list from WebAdvisor. Any students who do not show on the updated class list should be directed to the Office of Admissions, Records and Registration Services in the Student Services Center for registration confirmation. If the students are authorized to attend courses, they will be given a registration statement by the Office of Admissions, Records and Registration Services and will appear on the instructor’s grade reports. The registration statement (RGST) will indicate the date that the student was added to the section. Instructors may print an updated class list from WebAdvisor at any time. Since WebAdvisor is “real time,” class lists will reflect all current registrations at that moment.
RECOGNIZING AND ASSISTING STUDENTS IN DISTRESSSafety on campus and the well-being of our staff, faculty and students are everyone’s responsibility. No single person or department can effectively protect the College without assistance from others in the college community. If you have concerns about the inappropriate behavior of anyone on campus, it becomes your responsibility and your duty to bring these concerns to the attention of the Dean of Students or the Public Safety Department.
It is important for you to know that there is assistance available to help you and to help your students with any situation. The Dean of Students’ office and the Public Safety Department work closely together to monitor and assist students in distress. In addition, Public Safety is available 24/7, 365 days a year, to offer assistance and guidance to faculty and students, who may know of someone in distress. While trying to assist students, remember to take care of yourself. If you suspect that a student may pose a threat to themselves or others, there is no reason to put yourself in danger or to be alone with that student. Being a support person to a student in pain can be a very rewarding experience, but there can also be a significant “cost to caring.” Bearing witness to a person in pain can be a heavy responsibility that may cause you to feel some distress or sadness. You are urged to seek assistance when dealing with a student in crisis.
Attending college is an exciting and dynamic experience that can include making lifelong friends, engaging in exciting intellectual pursuits, playing on a team or joining groups. It is a time to grow in self-awareness, and to develop a sense of adult identity. It may also be a time of turmoil and distress. Students may have to deal with stresses such as physical or mental illness (e.g. depression, anxiety), financial stress, the death of a loved one, or the end of an important relationship. Because of frequent contact with students, staff and faculty members may be in a position to assist students in distress.
26
Faculty members are often the first at the College to have contact with potentially disturbed or disruptive individuals. As such, you will need information on what to look for and then what to do. This section gives you ideas on how to recognize and effectively handle emotionally and mentally disturbed students.
Recent incidents of student violence on college campuses nationwide have brought the subject of personal safety to the forefront of our concerns. Despite statistical evidence that shows colleges to be generally safe environments, there is no getting away from the importance of the issue of potential violence on campus. It is possible to proactively identify individuals, who may be considering committing acts of violence on campus, before they have the opportunity to complete these acts. As a faculty or staff member, it is your responsibility to bring these individuals to the attention of the Dean of Students or the Public Safety Department.
Threats and Disruptive BehaviorsAny threat should be taken seriously. If the threat is not specific, contact the Public Safety Department for advice about what to do; please also speak to your department head or supervisor. Physical violence and specific threats must be reported immediately to Public Safety.
What to Look for in Students Significant changes in academic performance Unprovoked anger or hostility Expressions of hopelessness, fear or worthlessness Unusual or bizarre behavior High levels of irritability, including angry outbursts or unruly behavior Significant weight loss or weight gain Marked changes in personal hygiene or dress Direct or indirect references to either suicide or intention to harm or kill another person Changes in disturbances in personal relationships Visible signs of anxiety or depressed mood Talking explicitly about hopelessness or suicide Difficulty concentrating, difficulty carrying on normal conversation Social isolation, social withdrawal or “excessive” dependency on instructors Excessive sleeping, internet use and/or gaming Significant changes in personal, sexual or cultural identity Unusual or exaggerated emotional responses, which are obviously inappropriate to the
situation Essays or creative work which indicate extremes, of hopelessness, social isolation, rage,
fear or despair Concerns about a student in class from his/her peers Any behavior that indicates a loss of contact with reality
Trust Your InstinctsIf you have a “gut reaction” that something is wrong with a particular student, trust your instincts. Even if a student denies that they may have a problem, keep on trusting yourself. It is all right to talk with students about your concerns. Communication is the first step toward getting help. Remember, when in doubt, err on the side of safety and seek assistance from the Dean of Students or the Public Safety Department.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIESThe Camden County College Foundation awards a number of scholarships for students pursuing various fields of study at the College. These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of private donors who believe in the mission of Camden County College and want to help students to reach their fullest potential. Scholarships are awarded in various amounts annually to enrolled students who are continuing, graduating, and/or transferring. In addition to College-sponsored scholarships, the Office of the Executive Dean of Enrollment and Student Services maintains information on scholarships provided by outside organizations. For further information regarding scholarships, visit the website at www. camdencc.edu/foundation and click on “Scholarships” or contact Jacqueline Tenuto, Assistant Dean for Student Development and Support, at (856) 227-7200, ext. 5088, or the Office of Foundation and Alumni Relations at ext. 4946.
STUDENTS WITH HEARING DISABILITIESProgram for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students: Deaf and hard of hearing students will require accommodations like those listed above. For more information on how to accommodate their needs, please contact (856) 227-7200 x4506.
STUDENTS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIESDisability Services: Students who inform you of learning disabilities should have written documentation from the DS Office (856-227-7200 x4430/4372). This letter will usually indicate the accommodations the student needs. Typical ones include extended time on tests
28
(for this you might need to make use of the Make-up Testing Service), tape recorders, or even a student note taker. If you suspect through written assignments or tests/quizzes that a student might have an undiagnosed learning disability, by law you cannot tell the student what you suspect (not being an employee of the College hired to diagnose such disabilities). But YOU SHOULD privately direct the student to contact the DS Office to discuss his/her “difficulty in learning the material” and explain that that office will provide counseling/advisement, tutoring, schedule building, and classroom support. Sometimes as a result of this conversation, the student might self-identify to you his/her knowledge of a diagnosed learning disability. DO NOT give a student extended time on tests or quizzes without written authorization from the DS Office. Students with physical disabilities might also be involved with the DS Office.
STUDENTS FOR WHOM ENGLISH IS THEIR SECOND LANGUAGEEnglish as a Second Language (ESL): Students for whom English is a second language and who struggle in your class because of English language deficiencies should be directed to contact Stephen McCoy ([email protected]) for counseling and tutoring services. If detected early enough in the semester, an ESL student who has been incorrectly placed in your course could be moved to the appropriate course.
For more information on these services, please go to http://www.camdencc.edu/currentstudents/index.htm.
TESTING, MAKE-UPThe Testing Center has a procedure for administering most paper and pencil make-up testing required for your classes.Instructors are responsible for the following:

supply all testing materials for each student, i.e., answer sheets, tests, essay booklets, blue books, Scantrons, etc. Test materials must match the number of students you would like tested;
provide the name of each student who is eligible to take the test; inform the student(s) about Testing Center locations, make-up test hours and any
approved instructional aids; inform the student(s) that a photo ID must be presented to the proctor at the time of
testing; make arrangements to retrieve completed and/or past-dated tests; submit a copy of the “Instructor Cover Sheet” forms to Blackwood for any tests
administered at the Camden City Campus and William G. Rohrer Center.
When the College is in session, make-up testing will be administered at the Blackwood Campus Testing Center located in the Blackwood Campus Library, room 200 (second floor), Camden City Campus College Hall, room 117 and designated areas at the William G. Rohrer Center.
A schedule of specific days and times is published each semester on the Testing Center website at www.camdencc.edu/testing. WEBADVISOR – ATTENDANCE GRADING
Reporting Attendance Via WebAdvisor
Attendance reports are needed for all students, including those students whose attendance is satisfactory. A grade of SA is the indicator that a student’s attendance is satisfactory. Grades of XA or NA are the indicators of negative attendance. Attendance grades are posted as Midterm/Intermediate grades on the Internet using WebAdvisor.
There are three possible grades that you may report at this time – SA, NA, or XA. It is especially important for you to post XA grades for students who have never attended a class session. Please keep in mind that attendance grades are not a report of academic progress. They are used to reflect attendance only.
XA – The student did not attend any class sessions. Once you have posted attendance grades the Records Office will post the XA grade as the students’s final grade.
NA – The student attended at least one class session, but is no longer attending the class
or has exceeded the written attendance policy.
SA – The student is attending satisfactorily.
Please Note:
If a student has withdrawn from the course, you should post the attendance grade that you would have given the student.

office. The administrative office of each site will place an Attendance Form in the faculty member’s
mailbox. Completed Attendance Forms should be forwarded to the appropriate dean’s office upon their return to campus.
Scheduled Absences
Because all classes must be covered, faculty planning an absence must arrange with their department chair/coordinator for an approved substitute to work with students. The faculty member should make every effort to secure a substitute from their department-approved list. In the event the faculty is unable to secure a substitute, the College will make every effort to have classes covered by qualified faculty.
All absences must be reported and the proper paperwork submitted. Classes must be held on all scheduled meeting times according to the academic calendar.
Missed Classes – Adjunct Faculty
A class missed by a faculty member may result in a proportionate pay reduction. Faculty may be eligible for paid sick or personal leave according to the contract.
Miscellaneous Attendance Forms must be completed for all absences and turned into the appropriate academic dean’s
office. Periodic classroom audit will be conducted at random times throughout the semester. The above procedures are to be used for all adjunct faculty unless an individual program has specific
reporting procedures that apply only to the program. Adjunct faculty should check with their program coordinator/dean.
