'state of the art' programs for Structural and Civil

design, high priority is placed within the Company on

maintaining up to date computer design facilities to

provide an economic and fast track design service to

    our clients.

The facilities available ensure that a competitive fee

structure can be offered and economic design solutions

can be achieved within a minimum turnaround period

    essential for our clients.

  • Computer Aided Design Facilities (continued);

Our Computer Software packages are as follows:-

Auto-cad We have several networked Auto-cad stations for layout

    GA drawings.

Multisteel A 3D structural modelling package which can be integrated

into Autoplant software to provide a full 3D model of all

equipment, vessels, piping in a multi-discipline project.

2D general arrangement drawings can be produced from the

    model.

Superstress (Integer) A suite of structural analysis packages capable of handling two dimensional plane frame models and grids and

    three dimensional space frames.

Supersteel (Integer) A link from the 'Superstress' analysis programs allows an automatic design package to carry out the design of

the structure in accordance with BS 5950 : 2000.

'Masterseries' Connection Design Major connections including rigid joints and column bases are designed by the Masterseries design package to

    BS 5950:2000.

Brick Panel Design (CAD's) The design of reinforced or unreinforced load bearing brickwork to BS 5628 is available and enables the lateral

capacity of panel walls to be assessed very quickly.

The program will handle all types of wall construction including plain cavity, fin, diaphragm or cellular wall

    designs.

Fastrack Portal Frame (CSC) Elasto-plastic analysis and design software for portal frame design.

Building Designer (CSC) Elastic analysis and design package incorporating composite floor design facility.

    CSC Designer Software (Tedds) A multi facetted design package covering both Civil and Structural design of;

    Drainage

    Foundations

    Structural elements

    Timber

    Composite floors

    Pilecaps

    Retaining walls

    Masonry

    Highways

  • Computer Aided Design Facilities (Continued);

X STEEL 3 Dimensional Modelling and Detailing Packages

3 Dimensional Models of Structures are created for the production of General Arrangement drawings and

    automatic fabrication details.

There are many other advantages available from the X-Steel package, once the model has been created

tonnages of steel , areas of steel for painting, bolt lists, fitting sketches and much more useful information is

    available.

    We have twelve stations available, recent projects are;

    Terminal 2 Heathrow (35,000 tonnes)

    Dublin airport

    The Olympic Orbit structure

    The Emirates Stadium

    The Olympic Velodrome

    And many other major structures

  • COMPLETED PROJECTS

PROJECT : OPS PLANT, SEDGEFIELD, CLEVELAND

    CLIENT : FILMCO INTERNATIONAL

T J Hazell (Engineering Consultants) Ltd was appointed by the client to carry out the Design and Project Management of

the Building and Civil works associated with their new OPS plant at Sedgefield, Cleveland.

The proposed location for the building was a sloping site and consisted of weak subgrade material, prior to the Main

Civil Contract being carried out a separate site preparation was undertaken which comprised levelling the site by land

filling and providing reinforced earth embankments around the site perimeter.

The building comprised a three bay Portal Frame Structure of approximately 135 tonnes supported on bored cast insitu

piled foundations and included Roads, Drainage, Fire mains together with Substation and Switchroom design.

The total project value was 6.2m with a Building and Civil Contract value of 1.25m and was completed on time and

    within the Budget Estimate.

PROJECT : BUSINESS UNITS, BRENDA ROAD, HARTLEPOOL

T J Hazell (Engineering Consultants) Ltd was appointed to undertake the civil design associated with a Design and Build

Contract for the construction of several hi-tech business units at Hartlepool for East Mercia Developments.

The Civil Design involved Foundation, Roads and Drainage. The Drainage system comprised separate Storm Water

Systems to the adopted roads and buildings as well as a Foul Drainage System. The low lying site resulted in both the

S.W. and foul drainage systems incorporating pumping stations which lifted the drainage into water courses and public

    sewers respectively.

The total project value was approximately 3.5m.

PROJECT : 'R' BLOCK RESEARCH LABORATORY WING , WILTON

CLIENT : ICI ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT NORTH EAST GROUP, BILLINGHAM

T J Hazell (Engineering Consultants) Ltd was appointed by ICI to work with their appointed Architect and Mechanical and

Electrical Engineers to undertake the civil design associated with building a research laboratory block.

The building comprised of a four storey steel framed structure, with roof and basement plantrooms, composite

concrete floors, brickwork and glazed cladding to give a working floor area of 4400m2. The foundations required special

consideration due to the ground conditions, a sloping site, and the influence of an existing RC underground primary

service duct which traversed the building and the abutment to an existing building local to this service duct.

The total project value was 6.0m.

  • COMPLETED PROJECTS

PROJECT : CRECHE IN GROUNDS OF WILTON CASTLE

CLIENT : ICI PERSONNEL DEPARTMENT, WILTON CENTRE

T J Hazell (Engineering Consultants) Ltd was appointed by ICI to prepare layout schemes for a fifty place day creche on a

sloping woodland site local to Wilton Castle.

The accepted scheme, which complied with the Social Services statutory regulations, was Project Managed by ourselves

    to an agreed limited budget.

The super-structure was undertaken by a competitively appointed building contractor as a Design and Build package,

and the foundations and drainage design undertaken by ourselves. The building consisted of structural timber framed

super-structure combined with stone wall cladding outer leaf.

The project was completed on time to the agreed budget of 0.3m.

PROJECT : ILMENITE RESIDUE NEUTRALISATION PLANT

    CLIENT : TIOXIDE (UK) LTD

T J Hazell (Engineering Consultants) Ltd was appointed to undertake the Structural, Civil and Building design associated

    with the above project.

The project included a multi-storey steel frame Filtration Structure with composite reinforced concrete slabs and a two

storey Neutralisation Building, of similar construction.

A lattice frame conveyor gantry linked both buildings carrying the product from the Filtration building to the

    Neutralisation building.

The buildings were supported on piled foundations with ground floor slabs laid to falls to the effluent drainage system,

also included in the design package were the roads, transfer tower, pipebridges, tank foundations and drainage (storm

water and effluent). The design and specification of control room and motor control centre were also undertaken by

    ourselves.
