fiber.

Food and Beverage Sales Documentation

Schools must document these sales two ways: 1. Smart Snacks documentation for food and beverage items must include: • Nutrition Facts Label • Ingredients List For every food or beverage item sold during a non-exempt event. 2. Maintain a log of ALL food sales outside of the Federal school meal program. (Example on Page 5)

Documentation of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation Calculator results is optional, however you must also maintain nutrition facts labels and ingredient lists as this is required for all Food and Beverage sales.

Notes:1. Whole grain-rich – Foods that contain 100-percent whole grain or contain a blend of whole-

grain meal and/or flour and enriched meal and/or flour of which at least 50-percent is whole grain. Whole grain-rich products must contain at least 50-percent whole-grains and the remaining grain, if any, must be enriched.

2. Combination food – Products containing two or more components representing two or more of the recommended food groups: fruit, vegetable, dairy, protein or grains.

3. Other beverages* (i.e., unsweetened or diet teas, low calorie sport drinks, fitness waters, flavored waters, seltzers, and coffees)• Other flavored and/or carbonated beverages that are ≤20 ounces must:

• Contain ≤5 calorie per 8 ounces or ≤10 calories per 20 ounces• Other flavored and/or carbonated beverages that are ≤12 ounces must:

• Contain ≤40 calories per 8 ounces or ≤60 calories per 12 ounces• Diet soda is prohibited• Caffeinated beverages are allowed

*At least 50% of non-milk beverage options must be water and no or low-calorie options. 4. Smart Snacks Federal requirement. 5. High Schools may sell “mechanically vended” beverages which meet Colorado Healthy Beverage Law requirements during this time period.
