Speaking here, on the slowdown in general hiring and other HR trends in the country, Mr Venkat said “The uncertainty in the overall governance and slowdown in growth across industry sectors has not gone down well with the hiring managers and HR leaders in many medium and large organizations. There is practically no hiring in the banking, manufacturing and automotive sectors, except for any critical replacement in case of someone at the middle/senior level leaving”. “Even in the case of need, most hiring and HR leaders looking at promoting someone from within the company, or move someone laterally, mostly – showcasing that as an added responsibility. This, apart from saving time and resources also helps career-pathing for the internal talent pool”, he added. “The political uncertainty in the run up to the next general elections, and also the erosion of trust in public office is contributing to an overall slowdown, besides off course the lessened spending by the consumers, unless essential. We can expect the hiring trends to resume once the elections are over in mid-2014.Until then, it is also better that people in senior roles stick on to where they are”, he added.
