Emergency budget June 2010George Osborne announced his anxiously awaited Emergency Budgeton 22 June 2010. As widely predicted the VAT rate will increase to 20%from 4 January 2011. The increase was an obvious choice as it willincrease taxation revenues with no additional cost to the government.Other measures summarised may present financial challenges to individuals and businesses over the next few years

Personal allowancesPersonal allowance will be increased to £7,475 from April 2011, worth£170 to basic rate taxpayers (lower than the £10,000 predicted)

Benefits and tax creditsChild benefits will be frozen for the next three years Tax credits for families with income over £40,000 will be reduced fromApril 2011, with further changes planned for 2012-13

Capital Gains Tax (CGT)The recent trend established by the Labour government of taxingincome and capital gains at the same rate is being reversed by theCoalition government, and this is a particular worry to small businessowners, buy-to-let landlords and shareholders. Higher rate tax payers will pay 28% from midnight on 22 June 2010 Low and mid-income savers will continue to pay 18% CGT for entrepreneurs will be extended to the first £5m of lifetime gains

Small business summaryThe government has announced that it will undertake a review of smallbusiness tax, but in the meantime the corporation tax rate for smallcompanies will be cut from 21% to 20% from April 2011.For capital allowances (the tax relief on larger one-off items such asplant and machinery) , the written down allowance rate is beingreduced from 20% to 18%. The Annual Investment Allowance is alsobeing reduced to £25,000 from 2012.

National InsuranceThe planned National Insurance rate rise of 1% both employees andemployers will be introduced despite general election promises. On the positive side there will be a significantly above inflation rise in theemployer threshold for NIC from April 2011with the effect that employerswith staff earning at a relatively modest salary may see their employeeNIC fall as a result but most will be expected to suffer increased employ-ment costsEmployees will bear the brunt of a 1% increase across the board, with arise in the main rate from 11% to 12%, but sheltered a little by the

Web DesignWebsite design is a very personal thing and a hard art to get right. There are so many factors to making a site correct for you and your customers, that it can only be done with face to face meetings andwith the person, or team, building your site understanding your businessand your way of running that business.A website can be a great tool for a varity of different people and businesses. For instance, let's say you run a company that produces avery special tool, people know you build this tool and come to you solely for it. You wouldn't need a site to bring in custom as that's alreadyhappening, your site would be an informational site. A place to sendcurrent customers and to tell them more about you and the other thingsyou might offer, like an online brochure. This sort of site would alsoappeal to social clubs or groups of like minded people doing something for charity or the community. However, if you sell door mats for a living you would want a site to dragcustomers in and push up sales, a site that not only looks good whenyour new customers arrive, but a well signposted site to make sure theyget there in the first place. The main factor of all the above is a comprehensive understanding ofyou and what you do. Anyone with a little knowledge can put a sitetogether but at AnyIT we know how to build a site that works for you, notagainst you.We build websites from £295+vat, so if you're even a little interestedplease give us a call and we will be happy to come meet you, andhelp you achieve more with a new website.Kind Regards, Gary Rayner - Managing Director

above inflation planned increase in the tax threshold - although ofcourse this does mean that the tax reductions some have been prom-ised will be soaked up in additional national insurance contributions.New businesses outside London and the South East will be exempt fromnational insurance for their first 10 employees. As with all Budgets the devil is in the detail, so careful planning of yourpersonal and business finances is more important than ever. If you feelthat you need professional advice on any issues raised or on account-ancy or taxation matters in general please contact us for a free initialconsultation on 01449 798444 or via email [email protected].

Stowmarket at the EasternSwimming Championships

Stowmarket had a representative at the first weekend of theEastern Championships in Ryan Clay. This is the first year thatRyan has made the qualifying times for the Eastern and hehad two races over the weekend.

His first was the 4x100m medley.Ryan started well and was with theleaders at the end of the back-stroke leg. Turning on to his front heswam and excellent breaststroke leg and was in con-tention for a leading place at the

freestyle change over. Ryan swam a strong freestyle strokeand came home in 10th Place with a very good time of5:20.81. The promise shown in Ryans breaststroke leg of themedley was realised in his second race of the weekend, the200m Breaststroke. Ryan came in in 6th place and bookedhis place in the final. If there is a recommended time to set personal records, it would be at the final of a major gala. Thisis exactly what Ryan accomplished swimming a strong andfocussed race to touch home in 4th Place in 2:45:24 narrowly missing a medal spot. Ryan is undoubtedly pleasedwith his performance so far and aims to repeat this form nextweekend.
