Peer Support Program
Elder Friends: Reaching Out to Peers
The Peer Support Program is a proactive
approach intended to engage older adults
who are experiencing isolation and/or
loneliness. The project empowers trained
older adult volunteers, called Elder Friends,
to use their skills to interact with at-risk older
adults (peers helping peers) while offering
compassionate outreach. Elder Friends are
good listeners who bring a little of the
outside world into that of their peer, enrich
their lives via friendship, and may even foster
an increase in independence.
