It wasnt until I sat cross from Ron and heshowed me how to play I Wanna Be Your Dogthat I was suddenly enlightened as to what it

is that makes the Stooges one of the greatestrock and roll bands on the planet. It wasnt theprimitivism, it wasnt the three chords and thatwhole thing about getting to the essence ofrock and rollyeah, theres something reallybeautiful about that and it was the blueprint forpunk and all that and thats greatbut it washow Ron was playing as much as what he wasplaying. He was playing it with a very sublime

swing. Thats when I realized what differenti-ates the Stooges from everything else in hardrock, high energy music...is that they reallyknew how to swing.

    Original Interview, 12/9/2009

The guys in The Ramones loved andidentified with the Stooges and sortof modeled themselves after theAsheton brothers, in ways. They were abig influence. The spirit and personalityof the Asheton brothers definitely suitedthe mindset of The Ramones.

Iggy was the cherry on top, whatmade it function and made it whole. But the foundation is this noiseand its much more guitar noisethan it is anything else.Ron Ashetons guitar style is asfundamental in its own way asSteve Croppers guitar style, ScottyMoores guitar style or Chuck Ber-rys guitar style...

Iggy made all these great recordsthat I love, but Iggy and Ron are just...Miles and Coltrane. Thats the crmede la crme. I mean, the guy couldplay happy birthday and it wouldsound like the Stooges.Don:Exactly! Its that sound and you cantell its in his hands, its the way he

plays it and the way it comes out ofthe amp. Anybody else could havethat setup and it doesnt sound likethat.
