President Blair PisioGreetings Stonebridge!I hope you are all enjoying a fantastic summer! This edition of the newsletter features information on our fall registration period, annual general meeting and some other updates from around the neighborhood. We hope you can attend our annual general meeting which will be held on September 9, 2015 at 7:00pm at the Circle Drive Alliance Church. This is an opportunity to hear about the year that was, meet current board members and also is an opportunity to join our SCA executive. If you have any questions about becoming a board member, please email me.

A very exciting event that has been in the works since February is our Movie in the Park. The movie that will be played is "Inside Out" and it is sure to be a good evening. This event was held two years ago and we had a very good turnout. Popcorn will be served and you can bring a blanket or lawn chairs to relax and enjoy a movie. Thanks to our volunteer committee for putting this together!

If you've been over to our website lately (ourstonebridge.ca) you may have noticed that it has a new look. I want to thank our Website Coordinator for all of the hard work that not only went into this revitalization, but also for the work that is done in maintaining our web presence via social media as well. We continue to see a growing number of followers on our Facebook page, which is a primary way we keep you updated of important activities and events in our growing neighbourhood. Be sure to head on over and "like" us!

I hope you've enjoyed the summer months! Summer is always a busy time for construction in Saskatoon, and this

year has been no exception.

WARD 7 I Update Hello Stonebridge residents,

There are a number of roadway projects underway in Stonebridge which I know have affected residents for the last several months, and I appreciate your patience in this regard. The roadway construction on Gordon Road is designed to accommodate neighbourhood traffic and access to the forthcoming schools, and is scheduled for completion in August.

The roadway construction on Stonebridge Common and Lewin Way, which will bring both sections of roadway to the design laid out on the Stonebridge neighbourhood concept plan, is scheduled for completion this fall. And of course, the most major project currently underway, the Highway 11/Victor Road interchange, is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2016.

You may have also noticed the installation of a number of rubber curbs in different parts of the neighbourhood this summer. These traffic-calming measures have been installed in areas which residents reported as concerns, and will be studied for effectiveness in the months ahead. Please don't hesitate to report any other traffic concerns to me directly.

STONEBRIDGE INTERCHANGE CONSTRUCTION - Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why did you remove the berm behind some houses on Sutter Crescent? The berm had to be removed to make way for theStonebridge interchange southbound ramp to connect to Victor Road.2. What sound mitigation measures will replace it? The interchange was designed so that the southbound ramp itself wouldprovide adequate sound mitigation from Highway 11 noise. Once construction is complete, as part of the ongoing engineering ofthe interchange, sound modelling will be completed to confirm that the ramp is sufficient in mitigating noise.3. How will you improve the aesthetic look of the ramps once construction is complete? Similar to other ramps around the city,the side slopes will consist of concrete retaining walls in certain areas and grass in others. Dream Development and the City willexamine enhanced landscaping4. Could vehicles come off the ramp and into my house? The southbound ramp design includes a barrier curb along theshoulders to prevent vehicles from going over the edge. The is consistent with ramps on other interchanges around the city withsteep side slopes.5. When is this project expected to be complete? Construction started in May 2015 and is expected to be complete in fall of 2016,

Fall Yard Care


The geese are flocking overhead. There’s a chill in the morning air. Frost decorates rooftops and windshields. As the House of Stark reminds us, “Winter is Coming” In the next few weeks, you need to “tuck” your garden in for its winter’s rest.General Clean Up - Put away the hoses, the soccer balls, and the flip-flops that somehow litter the back yard. Clean and sharpen garden tools so they are ready for spring. Store chemicals in a childproof, well ventilated area that does not freeze. Be sure to blow out your sprinkler water lines so they do not freeze and crack. Lawns - Mow the lawn to 1 ½” high. You want the snow to settle straight in between the blades of grass. If the grass is too long, the grass will fold on itself. This and the weight of the snow create the perfect recipe for snow mould in the spring. Raking any leaves left on the lawn before snowfall will also prevent snow mould.Mulch - Cover tender perennials shrubs and roses with a cedar mulch. The mulch will give an added insulation protecting the crown and roots through the winter. We recommend covering with a minimum of 12-18” cedar mulch.Pruning - Tree pruning can be done anytime the plants are dormant, generally between the end of October and the beginning of May. There are exceptions: Weeping birch, most evergreens, and maple trees should be pruned in June. Early flowering shrubs such as double flowering plum and forsythia and lilacs can be lightly pruned after blooming. Join the city-wide Curbside Swap day on Saturday, September 12, by placing items on your curb that you want to give away. Make sure they're clearly marked as “FREE.” After that, all swap items are up for grabs by neighbours and other Saskatoon residents. The swap ends by 6:00 p.m.
