Welcome to our schoolDear Colleague,
ThankyouforyourinterestinthepositionofheadteacheratStokeNewingtonSchoolandSixthForm.Wearelookingforsomeonewhoputsstudentsandtheirachievementattheheartofeverythingtheydoandwhohasthedriveandambitiontobuildonthesuccessoftheschool,tofurtherraisestandardsandtoworkactivelytoclosetheachievementgapfordisadvantagedstudents.Ifyouaresomeonewhoalsosharesourhighly-prizedvaluesofinclusivityandcreativity,thenwehopeverymuchthatyouwillapply.
We’reveryproudatStokeNewingtonSchoolofourroleinthelocalcommunityandofourcomprehensivestatusinthelocalauthoritymaintainedsector.We’readiverseschoolinanareaofHackneywhichiswellknownforitsmixedcommunity,itssocialcohesionanditsnonconformistandartistictraditions.Allthesequalitiesarestronglyreflectedinourschoolethosandweseethemascontributingsignificantlytoouroverallambitionofconstantlyimprovingeducationalachievement.Wearealsoveryproudofourdynamicandcommittedstaffteamandofoursupportiveandengagedparentbody.Ournewheadteacherwillvalueallthesethings,andwillputgreatemphasisonthewellbeingofstaffandstudentsandonexcellentcommunicationwithallourstakeholders.
Intimesofpressureonschoolfinancesandreducedsupportfromtheborough,wehaveworkedhardtoensureacontinuedbroadcurriculum,continuedandimprovingsupporttoourdisadvantagedstudentsandthosewithspecialeducationalneedsaswellasinvestmentinkeyprioritiessuchasimprovedITsystemstobettersupportclassroomteaching.Governorsarecommittedtocontinuingthispolicyandtoexploringthebestformsofcollaborationandpartnershipwiththeauthorityandotherschoolstosecuretheschool’svaluesinthefuture.

StokeNewingtonSchoolisapopular,highachieving,innercity11-19comprehensiveschoolwithover1,600students.Weareaninclusiveschoolwithanemphasisoncreativesubjectsandcreativeteaching.
Wehaveavariedintakeacrossthe11to19agerange,withabout40%ofstudentseligibleforPupilPremiumfunding.Approximatelytwothirdsofourstudents(66%)arefromminorityethnicgroupsand30%haveEnglishasanadditionallanguage.Acrosstheschool,20%ofstudentsareonthespecialeducationalneedsregister.
Theschoolisover-subscribed,takingfromatightcatchmentareainthesouthofHackney–approximately1milein2017.StudentscometotheschoolwithKS2resultsclosetothenationalaverage.
Theschoolisstronglysupportedbythecommunityandparents:

Thesixthformhasgrownsignificantlyinrecentyearsandnowrecruitsuptoitscapacityof200studentspercohort:approximatelytwothirdsfromStokeNewingtonSchoolandonethirdexternally.
