We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth,of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father;God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,by the power of the Holy Spirithe became incarnate from the Virgin Mary and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in gloryto judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,who with the Father and the Sonis worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptismfor the forgiveness of sins.We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE PEACEWe are fellow-citizens with the saints and of the household of God, through Christ our Lord, who came and preached peace to those who were far off and those who were near.

The peace of the Lord be always with youand also with you.

Let us offer one another a socially distanced sign of that peace.

THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTSOffertory Hymn

For all the saints, who from their labours rest,Who Thee by faith before the world confessed,Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia!Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might;Thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight;Thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light. Alleluia, Alleluia!O may thy soldiers, faithful, true and boldFight as the saints who nobly fought of oldAnd win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold. Alleluia, Alleluia!O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;Yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine. Alleluia, Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce the warfare long,Steals on the ear the distant triumph song, And hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! The golden evening brightens in the west;Soon, soon to faithful warriors cometh their rest;Sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed. Alleluia, Alleluia! But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day;The saints triumphant rise in bright array; The King of glory passes on His way. Alleluia, Alleluia!

Words: W.W. How (1823-97)Tune: Sine Nomine

Music: Ralph Vaughan Williams

Pray my brothers and sisters, that my sacrifice and yours, may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father.May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands, for the praise and glory of His Name, for our good, and the good of all His Church.

Lord, accept the gifts your church offersand by this Holy Eucharist strengthen your grace within us, we ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

The Lord be with youAnd also with youLift up your heartsWe lift them to the LordLet us give thanks to the Lord our GodIt is right to give Him thanks and praise All kneel

It is indeed right and goodthat we should give you thanks, praise and glory, almighty and everlasting God, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

For after his resurrection he sent out his apostles and evangeliststo preach the gospel to all nations and lead us in the way of truth.

Himself the chief cornerstone,he founded his Church upon the apostles firmly to stand for everas a sign of your holiness upon earth

7

and a living witness to all of the way that leads to heaven.

And so with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven,we lift our voices and join in their unending hymn of praise saying:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

Lord, you are holy indeed, the source of all holiness; grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, and according to your holy will, these gifts of bread and winemay become the body and bloodof our Lord Jesus Christ;

Who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took bread and gave you thanks;he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying:

TAKE, EAT; THIS IS MY BODY WHICH IS GIVEN FOR YOU;DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

In the same way after supper he took the cup and gave you thanks; he gave it to them, saying:

DRINK THIS ALL OF YOU;THIS IS MY BLOOD OF THE NEW COVENANT,WHICH IS SHED FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.DO THIS AS OFTEN AS YOU DRINK IT IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

Great is the mystery of FaithChrist has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. And so, Father, calling to mind his death on the cross, his perfect sacrifice made once for the sins of the whole world; rejoicing in his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate this memorial of our redemption. As we bring before you this bread and this cup, we offer you this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving and we thank you for counting us worthy to stand in your presence and serve you.

Lord, may this sacrifice, which has made our peace with you, advance the peace and salvation of all the world.Strengthen in faith your pilgrim Church on earth;your servant Jonathan our bishop, and all the bishops.Welcome into your kingdom our departedbrothers and sisters, and all who have left this world in your friendship.

Send the Holy Spirit on your people and gather into one in your kingdom all who share this one bread and one cup, so that we, in the company of Holy Mary, Mother of God, of James the Great, Simon & Jude, Benedictand all the saints, may praise and glorify you for ever,

through Jesus Christ our Lord;by whom, and with whom, and in whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory be yours, almighty Father,

9

Page 10: stjameschurchhanslopev1.files.wordpress.com  · Web viewGlory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,we worship you,

for ever and ever. Amen.

THE COMMUNION Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come;thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation;but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Priest breaks the consecrated bread, saying:

We break this bread to share in the body of ChristThough we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

The Agnus Dei is said: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world; have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world; have mercy on us.Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world; grant us peace.

Behold the Lamb of God. Behold Him who takes away the sins of the world. Blessed are those who are called to his supper.Lord I am not worthy to receive you,but only say the word and I shall be healed

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION FOR THOSE AT HOME

Spiritual Communion is a Christian practice of desiring union with Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

Say the following prayerfully and quietly before saying the Prayer for Spiritual Communion:

Jesus my Lord, I thee adore, O make me love thee more and more.

Come to my heart Lord Jesus, there is room in my heart for thee.

HYMN FOR PRIVATE DEVOTION DURING COMMUNIONJerusalem the golden, with milk and honey blest, beneath thy contemplationsink heart and voice oppressed:I know not, ah, I know not, what joys await us there;what radiancy of glory, what bliss beyond compare! They stand, those halls of Zion, all jubilant with song, and bright with many an angel, and all the martyr throng:the Prince is ever in them, the daylight is serene;the pastures of the blessèdare decked in glorious sheen. There is the throne of David;and there, from care released, the shout of them that triumph, the song of them that feast;and they who with their Leaderhave conquered in the fight, for ever and for ever are clad in robes of white.Oh, sweet and blessèd country, the home of God's elect!Oh, sweet and blessèd country, that eager hearts expect!Jesus, in mercy bring us to that dear land of rest, who art, with God the Father, and Spirit, ever blest.

Words: Bernard of Cluny, 1145; trans. John Mason Neale, 1851, 1859 12
