Page 4, Thursday, July 7, 2005 News for Southern Colorado County, Texas The Eagle Lake Headlight Fred Earl Young Sr. Young Laid To Rest June 28 Fred Earl Young Sr., 77, of Eagle Lake passed away June 26,2005 at The Methodist Hospital in Houston after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 13, 1927 in Do- leen, Louisiana to James Thomas and Mallie Emmaline Young. He attended school in Hempstead, San Felipe, Simonton and Colum- bus. At the age of 16, he had to lave school to help support his parents and siblings. On October 11, 1958 he married Mary Frybert. Mr. Young worked for 25 years at Thortsenburg-Tamborello Gravel Pit in Ramsey and for the Southern Pacific Railroad for 17 years as an Assistant Foreman. Years ago, he was a member of the Eagle Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Knights of Columbus. Fred Earl Young Sr. was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Mary Magdalene Young; a daughter, Mary Kather- ine Young Frick; parents; brothers, Mountebille Perez, Howard Perez, Murl Young, John Young; and a sister, Katherine Steffens. Survivors include his sons, James, Fred Jr., John and wife, Jeanne, all of Eagle Lake, and Joe Mike and wife, Theresa, of Frydek; daughters, Frances Young of East Bernard and Elizabeth Young of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Kent and Lauren Frick, Brittany, Allyssa, Logan Christopher, Austin, Matthew and Kendall Young; sisters, Justine Hill and Nell Purkerson of Houston; and many nieces and neph- ews. A rosary was recited at The Parish of the Nativity on June 27' in Eagle Lake. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 28 at 10 a.m. in Eagle Lake with Father Eddie Winkler celebrating mass and rite of committal. The eulogy was given by his nephew, Joe S. Frybert. Interment was at Lakeside Cem- etery in Eagle Lake. Services were under the direction of Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel of Sealy. Pallbearers were James, Fred Jr., John, Joe Mike, Frances and Elizabeth Young. Honorary pallbearers were Drs. Robert Rubin, Howard Rubin, Henry Zaleski and Bharat Pothuri, all of Houston. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of The Methodist Hospital Main Building Eighth Floor for the wonder- ful care they provided. Stienke, 82, of El Campo, formerly a long time resident of Gar- wood, passed away June 30, 2005 in Houston. He was born on July 16, 1922 in Ganado to Otto Paul and Emma Kramer Stienke. He served in the 932nd Signal Battalion with the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and oper- ated Garwood Telephone Company for 28 years and was able to give the Garwood-Nada area unattended Dial Telephone Service in 1957. He also was a farmer and rancher. A former member and past presi- dent of the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department, was past president of the Garwood Lions Club, he served on the Garwood Independent School Board from 1956 to 1968. He was among the first to raise crawfish in this area with S S Crawfish Farm in 1987 and was in- volved in the producing and promoting the consumption of crawfish. He was honored as Colorado Coun- ty Senior Citizen of the year in 2004. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, LaVerne Stahala Stienke; daugh- ters Kate Corgey and husband, Bill, and Becky VonDerAu and husband, Bobby, all of El Campo; sons Ralph Stienke and wife, Kathy, of Garwood, Roger Stienke and wife, Linda, of Houston; grandchildren, Russell Labay and wife, Stephanie, of Taylor, Melanie Labay Gillig and husband, Travis, of Victoria, Stephanie Labay of Houston, Ragen Stienke and wife, Rachel, of Stamford, Conn., Kristen Stienke of Houston, Robert VonDerAu of San Marcos, John VonDerAu of El Campo, Kelli Stienke of Houston, Kim Miller and husband, Chad, of Houston, Ann Montalvo and husband, Domingo, of Wharton; great- grandchildren. Elizabeth and Charles Montalvo of Wharton, Zoe Miller of Houston and Kenner Labay of Taylor; sisters Ella Kunkel of Kingsville, Lil Amos of Sante Fe; and a brother, Ray- mond Stienke of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Harold and Gilbert Stienke. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 2, at Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church in Garwood with Rev. Ardith Nelson officiating and assisted by David King. Burial was held at the Lehrer Memorial Cem- etery. Pallbearers are Russell Labay, Ra- gen Stienke, Robert VonDerAu, John VonPerAu, Travis Gillig, Chad Miller and Domingo Montalvo. Sympathy is extended to the family in their loss. Blinn Community College To Offer Nurses Aide Course Registration is now under way for a nurse aide training course at Blinn College in Brenham. Presented by Blinn College Work- force Education, the course begins July 28 and will meet from 4- 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Oct. 18. Graduates of the 104-hour program receive certificates of completion in nurse aide training and are then eligible to take the Texas Department of Hu- man Services registry exam to become a certified nurse aide. The course cost is $475. The program, which consists of classroom, clinical and laboratory hours, prepares students for work as nurse aides in long-term care, home health, hospitals and doctor's offices. In addition to the Texas Department of Human Services approved curriculum, students will also receive training on the American Heart Association standards for Basic Life Support Heart- saver CPR. The same course is being offered at Blinn College-Bryan beginning July 19 with classes every Tuesday and Thurs- Czech Society In Need Of Pictures The theme for the Texas Czech Heritage Cultural Center (TCHCC) 2006 calendar covers will be Texas Czech children. Please submit photographs of children taken prior to World War II without adults in the picture. They can either be studio photo- graphs or candid shots. School pictures with a large group of children cannot be used due to the reduced size of the cover photographs. Additional photographs with themes similar to those in previous calendars Sheridan Library Has Summer Reading Program The summer reading program, "Go Wild ...Read!" is in full swing. A lot of youngsters are enjoying the crafts, the stories, and incentives that they receive. All of the supplies and incentives are the courtesy of the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). Thanks go to them for their support. There are just two more weeks of the summer reading program. Come out and enjoy the activities! The membership in the Sheridan Friends of the Library is continually growing. At the present time, the library has 42 Friends for 2005. The cost to join is $5 per person. HB3588 amended the Texas Trans- portation Code to add Chapter 461 Statewide Coordination of Public Transportation. The stated purposes of the legisla- tion are to (1) eliminate waste in the provision of public transportation ser- vices; (2) to generate efficiencies that will permit increased levels of service; and (3) to further the state's efforts to reduce air pollution. TxDOT has been directed to en- courage local public transportation providers to agree on the allocation of specific services and service areas among the providers. Renovations in the library are start- ing the last week of June. Harcrow Services Set For July 9 Fred L. Harcrow, 73, of Sheridan passed away Sunday, July 3 at his home. Memorial services will be held at the family residence in Sheridan on Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m. Fred was born on Jan. 25, 1932 in Waco to Marion and Gladys (Smith) Harcrow. Mr. Harcrow loved nothing more in life than his family, friends and his woodworking shop. He is survived by his wife, Iris Harcrow; brother, Gene Hardy; sons, Gary, Lance, Mark Harcrow and Mike Beyette; daughters, Sharon Cox and Dena Harcrow. He is also survived by his grand- sons, Josh, Nico, Mark Jr., Kristopher, Mikey, Brandon and Chase; grand- daughters, Snow, Nicole, Jessica and Loren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Gladys Harcrow; brother, Eric Hardy; son, Lonnie Harcrow; and step-daughter, Bridget Brinkmeyer. TXDOT Meeting Slated July 7

A meeting will be held at the Yoa- kum Texas Department of Transporta- tion Office, 403 Huck St, on July 7 at 1 p.m. to discuss development of a regional service plan.

HB3588 amended the Texas Trans- portation Code to add Chapter 461 Statewide Coordination of Public Transportation.

The stated purposes of the legisla- tion are to (1) eliminate waste in the provision of public transportation ser- vices; (2) to generate efficiencies that will permit increased levels of service; and (3) to further the state's efforts to reduce air pollution.

TxDOT has been directed to en- courage local public transportation providers to agree on the allocation of specific services and service areas among the providers.

Transportation providers, human service agencies, Texas Workforce Solutions as well as the public are invited to attend.

Harcrow Services Set For July 9

Fred L. Harcrow, 73, of Sheridan passed away Sunday, July 3 at his home.

Memorial services will be held at the family residence in Sheridan on Saturday, July 9 at 10 a.m.

Fred was born on Jan. 25, 1932 in Waco to Marion and Gladys (Smith) Harcrow.

Mr. Harcrow loved nothing more in life than his family, friends and his woodworking shop.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Harcrow; brother, Gene Hardy; sons, Gary, Lance, Mark Harcrow and Mike Beyette; daughters, Sharon Cox and Dena Harcrow.

He is also survived by his grand- sons, Josh, Nico, Mark Jr., Kristopher, Mikey, Brandon and Chase; grand- daughters, Snow, Nicole, Jessica and Loren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Gladys Harcrow; brother, Eric Hardy; son, Lonnie Harcrow; and step-daughter, Bridget Brinkmeyer.

Sympathy is extended to the family in their loss.
