Happy August NYCKI! I don’t know about you but I am so excited that the new school year is coming up so soon. It’s been a great summer filled with many travels with many CKI friends but a new school year means new members, more service projects and new experiences! This issue of Stick with Nyck News will provide you details on our upcoming events as well as tips on how to recruit new members to join us. More resources can and will be provided to you on this topic within the next few weeks. If you ever need anything more, never be afraid to contact me or any member of the district board to help you out! We hope that you’re as excited as we are for our District Large Scale Service Project!

What is Ronald McDonald House? Ronald McDonald House (RMDH) is one of my favorite service projects. The RMDH charities program strives to “create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well being of children.” These houses are typically located within walking distance of a children’s hospital. The house offers families who have children in the hospital a “home away from home” while they are going through hard times. As volunteers, you can participate in their meal program by providing them a home cooked meal to show them that you care. You can see that they are very appreciative of your presence and it alleviates some stress in their lives. Some houses offer craft sessions you can volunteer. You may also be able to work in the garden or to help reorganize their library. In NYCKI, there are houses located in Buffalo, Rochester, Long Island, New York City, Syracuse, Albany and Valhalla. This summer I’ve visited the RMDH of Vancouver, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Long Branch and Long Island. My goal is to visit as many as possible! Recruitment tips and tricks: Do’s:

• Mention that we are the “world’s largest collegiate community service organization” in your “elevator speech. This gives CKI strong credentials that may impress new members. When creating resources, use this tagline that’s provided in the Brand Guide!

• When creating handouts: use bright colors and pieces of paper in various shapes and sizes. This will make your club’s resource stand out.

• Offer things for people to take home after having a conversation on why you love Circle K (flyer, brochure, promotional pen, etc.)

• Give them your club’s e-mail, Facebook link as well as your information. By giving them your personal information, they can feel secure that you’ll be their “CKI buddy” at their first meeting.

Dont’s: • Share any poor experiences you have had • Clutter your table at the club fair • Overwhelm potential members with acronyms

like “LTG,” “DCON,” “DLSSP,” “STUFH,” etc.

Upcoming NYCKI events: 3rd Annual K-Family Picnic:

• August 25th 2013 from 12:00PM to 5:00PM in Cunningham Park in Queens, NY. Site will be next to the tennis courts, next to the parking lot off Union Turnpike. Cost will be $5 for SLP (you!) and $10 for Kiwanians. District Large Scale Service Project: • September 20th – 22nd 2013 at

the Ithaca YMCA. Registration will be between $20-$30. This will be a weekend dedicated to service while getting your first chance to meet NYCKI’s newest members as well as all returning members. For more info, stay updated via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/525922307457336/

Member of the Month Spotlight – June! Each month, the clubs report a Member of the Month through the Monthly Report Forms. These members have gone “above and beyond” and shown extreme dedicate to service, leadership and fellowship within their clubs.
