I will rescue them from all the places to which they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. 13 I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the watercourses, and in all the inhabited parts of the land. 14 I will feed them with good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel shall be their pasture; there they shall lie down in good grazing land, and they shall feed on rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 I myself will be the shepherd of My sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord God. 16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, but the fat and the strong I will destroy. 20In fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have died. 21 For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead has also come through a human being; 22 for as all die in Adam, so all will be made alive in Christ. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at His coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father, after He has destroyed every ruler and every authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For “God has put all things in subjection under His feet.” But when it says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is plain that this does not include the One Who put all things in subjection under Him. 28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will also be subjected to the One Who put all things in subjection under Him, so that God may be all in all.

How lovely on the mountains are the feet of Him, Who brings good news, good news. Announcing Peace, proclaiming news of happiness, Our God reigns, our God reigns. Our God reigns, (hallelujah), our God reigns, (hallelujah), Our God reigns, our God reigns. He had no stately form, He had no majesty, That we should be drawn to Him. He was despised and we took no account of Him, Yet now He reigns with the most high. Now He reigns, (hallelujah), now He reigns, (hallelujah), Now He reigns with the most high. It was our sin and guilt that bruised and wounded Him, It was our sin that brought Him down. When we like sheep had gone astray our Shepherd came, And on His shoulders bore our shame. On His shoulders, (hallelujah), on His shoulders, (hallelujah), On His shoulders He bore our shame. Meek as a lamb that’s led out to the slaughter house, Dumb as a sheep before its shearer. His life ran down upon the ground like pouring rain, That we might be born again. That we might be, (hallelujah), that we might be, (hallelujah), That we might be born again. Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty. He is alive! He is alive! God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side, Yes we know, He is alive! He is alive! (Hallelujah!), He is alive! (Hallelujah!), He is alive! He is alive!

Notices

1. A WARM WELCOME!

A warm welcome is extended to the Junior Red Cross Link of Aquinas College who are worshipping with us at the 9:30 am service this morning. This group is visiting with St. Gregory’s very own Sheddina Johnson.

WELCOME AND GOD BLESS!

2. A TIME TO PLAN

There are only a few weeks left in 2011. It’s time for the family of Saint Gregory to focus on plans and programmes for 2012. We must have harmony in all efforts so that we’ll have no clashing and better plan for events.

Now it is the opportunity to evaluate programmes of this passing year, scrap and enhance as we project to the future.

2012 we must put emphasis on youth and children and make whatever we do be friendly to these two groups.

Ours must be one of complimentary planning and execution over and against the competitive element that so regularly exposes its unacceptable face.

Let us use the month of October for serious planning and have those plans into the office by mid November.

3. CHURCH CALENDAR & DIRECTORY

The Altar Guild of St. Greg0ry’s Anglican Church would like to produce a church calendar and telephone directory for 2012. This is in an effort to raise funds which will assist with the purchasing of vestments and other altar linens.

In order to make this event a success, the Guild is requesting assistance from church members. We would appreciate if you would place an advertisement in the calendar. The deadline for receipt of advertisement and payment is Wed, 30 Nov.

Please ensure all pictures are in .jpg format. Ads can also be emailed to [email protected].

The rates are: Front Cover $300, Back Cover $300, Inside Cover (front) $250, Inside Cover (back) $250, Full Page $200, Half Page $100, Quarter Page $50.

Thank you in advance for your generous support.

The Anglican Church in the Bahamas - Part 6

Continued from last Sunday’s Edition.

The Reverend Canon John Calnan spent over forty six years in this Diocese where he worked in many Family Islands and whose work is best known for the twenty four years he spent at St. Barnabas, Nassau. He died in March 1981.

The Reverend Canon E.W.G. Holmes who died August 13th

, 1984 came to this Diocese in 1931 and spent forty two years at St. Mary’s Nassau, before retiring. The Very Reverend William J. Granger, who was the first Bahamian to hold this position, came to the Diocese in 1949. Before being appointed Dean he served nine years on Cat Island and thirteen years at Her Majesty’s Prison. After many years of fruitful service Dean Granger died in 1991.

The Very Reverend Foster Bancroft Pestaina came to the Diocese from Antigua in 1953. He was instrumental in constructing rectories, churches and parish halls in Nassau, Grand Bahama and the many Family Islands in which he served. He succeeded Dean Granger in 1991 and was responsible for major renovations and additions to Christ Church Cathedral. He will long be remembered for his organizational and pastoral skills.

The Reverend Canon John Pugh also arrived in the Diocese from England in 1953. His only incumbency was at St. Anne’s, Fox Hill where he succeeded Fr. Henshaw. Canon Pugh will be remembered for his passion for the development of the people of his parish which manifested itself primarily in his pastoral care and the establishment of St. Anne’s School which has benefited immensely the children of the entire Bahamas.

A year later the Reverend Canon Frederick Guild, an American, joined the Diocese. He spent twenty-eight years at Rock Sound, Eleuthera where he was involved with the affairs of that community. Later while serving as an assistant priest at Christ Church Cathedral he died.

Archdeacon Thompson served in the Family Islands as the Out Island Diocesan Missioner and parish priest at Exuma and Long Island. For a time he was a master at St. John College. He succeeded the Revered Canon Milton E. Cooper at St. Agnes in 1967 where he remained Rector for thirty-two years during a time of political, social and economic changes. He was a scholar of great depth and very vocal and eloquent in voicing his opinions. He had much influence because of his wide knowledge on contextualizing Bahamian issues. He played a major role in ecclesiastical affairs as an advisor both to both Bishop Bernard Markham and Bishop Michael Elson. He was elected to the Provincial Synod and to the Advisory Committee for the Lambeth Conference. Archdeacon Thompson was widely sought to address public for a, sit on Government commissions and interviews on things Bahamian. Tragically, he was mortally wounded at St. Agnes Rectory in May 2000. He died on June 23, 2000 and is buried near the western entrance of St. Agnes Church.
