Project Elements:1. Add new sidewalks, and pedestrian scale lighting on Pennsylvania Avenue.2. Enhance bike facilities on Stewart Street to accommodate riders of all ages and abilities.3. Enhance intersections at Stewart/Nebraska and Colorado/Yale.
Project GoalsConnect local neighborhoods to transit facilities, bikeways, schools, parks, and employment opportunities. Stewart Street and Pennsylvania Avenue are identified in the Land Use and Circulation Element, Bicycle Action Plan, Bergamot Area Plan, and Pedestrian Action Plan to include safety enhancements for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Project Area

STEWART & PENNSYLVANIA SAFETY ENHANCEMENT PROJECT
Protected Bikeway
The project will provide a robust protection for people traveling by foot on Pennsylvania Avenue. The project will add new sidewalks where none exists today, and pedestrian scale lighting along Pennsylvania Avenue. The sidewalks will make the street accessible to people of all abilities, increase access to adjacent buildings, and improve overall safety along Pennsylvania Avenue.

Pedestrian Improvements
The Stewart Street & Pennsylvania Avenue Safety Enhancement project will improve pedestrian and bicycle safety throughout the corridor. The project will add critical enhancements to protect both pedestrians and bicyclists along Stewart Street. Local neighborhoods will be better connected and design efforts will help alleviate cut-through traffic and reduce vehicle conflicts.

The project will add protected bike lanesto provide robust protection for people traveling by bike on Stewart Street. Protected bike lanes include a physical buffer between bicyclists and moving vehicle traffic. This will allow people of all ages and abilities to use the street.

Carril de Bici Protegido
El proyecto proporcionará una protección robusta para las personas que viajan a pie por la calle Pennsylvania.
