As always two big social events finished off 2011 in style – the Autosport Awards on the Sunday night and then the BRDC Awards at lunchtime the next day! It’s not always that easy to recover from one before the other but it was great to host the Motor Passion table for the lunch where Damon Hill was quite rightly honoured for all the brilliant work he’s done for the club over the past few years before passing on the presidency to Derek Warwick – who I’m sure will be equally dedicated to the task.

But now a New Year dawns and more events than ever with Motor Passion are dotted on my calendar. The Mille Miglia

of course and our Park Fermé hospitality at the Monaco Grand Prix make May a very special month. We’re looking to expand this very personal hospitality service to other Grands Prix later in the year, so watch this space.

I will of course still be busy filming for Fifth Gear and attending more Top Gear Live events like the ones I helped host in Birmingham and London last November. Unfortunately it means I won’t be able to make it to Le Mans but if anyone is in Durban that weekend I’ll sort the tickets for you!

The only actual racing that is on my calendar is of course the brilliant Goodwood Revival Meeting and although I know it’s almost one of the last of the year I always reckon that’s the one you want to book first!

Looking forward to seeing you somewhere in 2012.

Tiff’s Tales

Established in 1990; RMA have run over 1,000 track day events in seventeen different countries, featuring all the principal UK circuits and such legendary overseas destinations as Le Mans; Spa Francorchamps and the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife.

In our opinion they are the most professional, well respected company in their field by a long way and we are looking forward to working with the club and its members in 2012.

Our aim is to keep you updated and informed whilst hopefully going some way to eradicating the comment... “I wish we’d known about that as we would have loved to come along!”

With increased involvement and support from Tiff through 2012, a forthcoming F1 season with 6 world champions on the grid and a whole variety of other fabulous events covering both Classic to Contemporary – we very much hope that you’ll find something on our 2012 calendar to tempt you (see back page)

We plan to produce “Passionate Scribblings” on a quarterly basis, however should this inaugural issue result in the phone ringing off the hook, a constant deluge of email bookings and deposit cheques piling up on my desk... then we might have to replan... Nothing like positive thinking eh!

Passion in the PaddockThe most passionate story of 2011 surely had to be the ups and downs of poor old Lewis Hamilton as he struggled to come to terms with the loss of his Pussycat Doll girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger and the support – or lack of it – that he received from his new showbiz management team. Anyway he seemed to get his act together again for the last few races so we are all looking forward to him and Jenson hitting the Red Bulls hard from the word go.

The biggest upset of the winter though was surely the dropping of not one but both the Toro Rosso drivers! Yes Boomy and Algebra are out and the extremely promising Red Bull protégés Aussie Daniel Ricciardo and Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergne are in.
