TEACHER DIRECTIONS
1. Read aloud the central text.
2. Discuss characters, setting and events depicted in the text.
3. Identify insensitive words or stereotypes.
4. Model the process first by writing onto an anchor chart. Then have students complete the chart below in small groups, with partners or independently.
5. In whole class discussion, identify alternative, inclusive language to replace the hurtful words.
