How QTAC assesses applications
1. Eligibility
• Have you met the minimum entry requirements?
2. Merit
• If you are eligible, how competitive are you compared to all the other eligible applicants?
Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre
Minimum Entry Requirements
• Subject prerequisites Year 11 and 12 Authority subjects (or acceptable alternatives)Note: Assumed knowledge; Recommended subjects
• Auditions, folios, interviews Some Creative and Performing Arts courses
• Exams or TestsSome Medicine and Oral Health courses require UMAT

Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre
Merit
• If you meet the minimum entry requirements, you are then considered in order of merit
• All eligible domestic applicants are in the same pool.
So what is merit?
Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre
OPs and QTAC Selection Ranks = Merit
QTAC Selection Ranks are numbers on a scale from 1 – 99 (highest). They are derived from schedules
Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre

Select preferences carefully
As cut-offs can change from year to year, it is
important that you submit a range of courses on your QTAC application.
Build in upgrading pathways or
alternative careers in case you do not receive your higher preferences.
Your preferred order
Courses you really want, even if your chance of gaining entry is not certain.
Less competitive courses that provide another way to your chosen career or to an alternative career. They can be used to upgrade to your ‘ideal’ course.
Courses you are prepared to do if you miss out on all others. They should be courses that in the past have been easy to get into. They can help you upgrade.

Medicine & Dentistry Selection
Selection is very competitive
• Additional Selection Methods are used:
• UQ: Academic merit + UMAT (Aggregate and then Section 1 score)
• GU: Academic merit + ATAR
• JCU: Application + Interview (Medicine) + Academic merit
• BU: Interview + UMAT + Academic merit – apply after Jan offer round
• UNE: Interview + UMAT + Academic merit - apply via UAC
Watch out for preferencing
• OP 1 may not be enough to gain entry in the major offer round.
• Even OP 1 students can miss out on offers if all preferences are ‘Ideal’.
