Your continuous efforts to promote sports development for persons with disabilities areindeed laudable. Through the competition, you help promote their right to fully participate in
the building of a strong and healthy citizenry.
This worthwhile endeavor reflects the government’s adherence and support for the United Nation Convention on theRights of Persons with Disabilities (UN-CRPD) which enables persons with disabilities to join mainstream and disability-specific sports to further enrich society.
We fervently hope that the competition will enhance public awareneness and consciousness on the capabilities andunique giftedness of persons with disabilities.
May this event help us to see persons with disabilities as equals and partners for development.
As we put on our dancing shoes for this competition, we wish you all the best in your future undertakings.
Godspeed and more power!
Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc.
Today is a markedly special occasion – one, which I hope will presage many more events likethis in the coming years.
Dance, like music, is an expression uniquely individual and expressive. It is able to conveythe range of emotions that defines each one of us, no matter our situation in life, our physical limitations regardless.Dance permits us to give vent to what we feel. It allows us to soar without wings and demonstrates our capacity toappreciate LIFE itself. Dance empowers us.
TWH's Dance on Wheels may have started out in the 1990s as a form of therapy for emotional rehabilitationand acceptance. But it has since brought not only solace and a source of comfort to those who need it, but adeeper appreciation of one's graceful abilities, a sense of belonging among one's own peers.
To this end, may I take this opportunity in behalf of the Board of Directors of Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, tocommend the efforts of the organizers of this endeavor and thank all of our special guests, sponsors andparticipants who have taken part, share their talent and gift of dance in our Ballroom Dancing/ Dance Sport forPersons with Disability. It is our dream to one day send a Filipino delegation to international dance competitionswhere we hope and expect to shine the brightest.
For persons with disability, may we strive to make the most of what is left of us andcontinue to inspire others through our self-worth, for the glory to our Creator.
In behalf of the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled, National Paralympic Committee of thePhilippines (PHILSPADA-NPC Phils.), I am pleased to congratulate the organizers and participants of the “Steps for a Bright Future,Part II”, a ballroom dancing event.
As we are the recognized governing body for disabled sports by the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine OlympicCommittee, as well as an accredited member of the International Paralympic Committee, we are looking forward to the development andadvancement of Wheelchair Dance Sport in our country.
Wheelchair dancing has existed for more than twenty years now and is gaining more popularity in all parts of the world, we am gladthat here in the Philippines, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. has taken the initiative to restore the interest of Filipinos with disabilities inwheelchair dancing not only for recreation but as a sport too.
We believe that sport is an ideal means in promoting the integration of persons with disabilities (PWD) into mainstream society. Sportshelp instill important values such team work, discipline and perseverance thereby strengthening a person's competitive spirit leading to theheightening of one's confidence and self esteem preparing them to face the day to day challenges of life.
Let us, therefore, continue to work closely together in improving the plight of Filipinos withdisabilities through sport.
God bless and Godspeed.

Empowering your members to become to become self-reliant and productivemembers of ballroom dancing is a fantastic means of “Disabling” disability.
Dance is a powerful language that can break down the social barriers that existbetween people with disabilities and the able bodied world because it is one activitythat crosses the boundaries of age, gender and physical ability.
Through dance, one can become imaginative, creative and make one’s spirit soarregardless of physical challenges.
Life is not over just because one is in a wheelchair because people with disabilities can do beautiful things by anystandard.
We, at PDTA are one in carrying out the vision and mission of the Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. (TWHI) inequipping the disabled with skills in enhancing their capabilities.
I wish to congratulate the directors and officers of the Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Inc. the organizers of Stepsfor a Bright Future II, First Philippine Wheelchair Ballroom Dancing Championship and the Launching of WheelchairDance Sport.

Project
Concept
Founded in 1973, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan Inc. (TWHI) is geared to empowerpersons with disabilities ( PWD's) through its various programs and services so they
could become self-reliant and productive members of the society. One main program ofTWHI is education which is basic and very essential in uplifting the lives of our beneficiaries.
We also have other programs like recreation and sports development that boost their self-confidence and enhance their capabilities.
We have launched the first ballroom dancing for PWDs last November 17, 2007 which featured the TWH Danceon Wheels and participated by the Communication Society and Physical Education Department of St.Scholastica'sCollege, as well as, highly respected dance guru, Ms. Maribeth Bicharra. This caught the attention of many
including TV programs like: GMA 7's -Pinoy Records, Unang Hirit and 24 Oras; T.V Patrol of ABS-CBN-2; and Kid'sSport of Channel 23.
Dance sport is a modern form of ballroom dancing combining the area of exercise with social skills. All over theworld, people of all ages are looking for a way to get in shape, increase energy and look great as they learn the
social graces. Dance sport is truly a socially interactive activity that brings that special pleasure of moving tomusic with a partner but also adds an activity with merit in the aerobic arena.
TWH Dance on Wheels started in 1990's, as a form of therapy for emotional rehabilitation especially for ourresidents/workers who could not accept their physical disability. The first group of dancers initially tried theeasy steps of folk dancing. It was in 1999 when they did ballroom dancing which was more challenging andattracted more dancers to participate. It was only last year when we organized our event that we becameserious about it. Our Dance on Wheels is usually done singly or with a combination of dancers: able-bodiedpartner with PWD; both PWDs partnering with each other; and by group comprised of able-bodied dancersand PWDs dancing in different formation or free performances. This dance is at par with the standarddancing of waltz, tango, cha-cha, rumba, etc., in the unique movement of wheelchair dancing togetherwith the movement of the dancers' upper extremities further emphasized by their grace and facialexpression.
Pioneering in the advocacy for PWDs, TWHI takes pride in continuing this project for ourbeneficiaries. It gives healing and therapy, as well as, develops capabilities, makingthe most of what is left of PWDs. Their ability for dance sport is promising as
our dancers are being prepared for further training for local andinternational competition
