24+ Advanced Learning Loans have beenintroduced to help you cover the course feesfor full and part-time courses and training atLevel 3 and 4 e.g. Advanced and HigherApprenticeships, A levels, Access to HigherEducation courses and Level 3 and 4,Certificates and Diplomas.

WHO ARE THE LOANS FOR?

You can apply for a loan if:

• You are aged 24 and above at the start of yourcourse

• You are studying at Level 3 and Level 4 infurther education and training

• You are resident in the UK for the last threeyears

• You have not previously had a loan to do thesame type and level of qualification.

The loan is available irrespective of your currentemployment status and the loan will not bemeans tested or subject to any credit checks.

WHEN APPLYING FOR A LEVEL 3 OR 4 COURSE YOU WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO:

a) Pay the course fees yourself

b) Have an employer/sponsor pay the coursefees on your behalf

c) Be able to apply for an Advanced LearningLoan to help pay for the course fees.

HOW WILL THE LOAN WORK?

They work in a similar way to the current HigherEducation student loans systems and you canapply for it through the Student Loans Company. The payment for the course fees will then bemade from the Student Loans Company directlyto the College.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A 24+ ADVANCEDLEARNING LOAN?

Step 1: Apply for your chosen course direct toStephenson College.

Step 2: If your application is successful, pleaserequest a 24+ learning and funding letter whichincludes details of how to apply.

Step 3: You will need to complete an onlineapplication form.

HOW MUCH WILL THE LOANS BE FOR?

For all eligible courses except apprenticeshipsthe loan will be up to 100% of the cost of thetraining, including course and material fees. Thiscould be anywhere between £300 and £4,000depending on the individual.

For Apprenticeships you can take the loan for upto 50% of the apprenticeship fee and the other50% is paid for by the employer. This is becausean Apprenticeship has clear benefits for both thelearner as well as the employer. Support foremployers will be available from the NationalApprenticeships Service who will help them tothink about how loans can help their employeesand their business.

DO I NEED TO APPLY FOR A LOAN FOREACH YEAR I AM STUDYING?

No. You will have one loan to cover the wholelength of your course - you don’t have to re-applyeach year. ‘One course - one loan.’

WHAT WILL I HAVE TO REPAY AND WHEN?

There are no repayments until after the course iscompleted and you are earning £21,000 or more.

Repayments will start from the April after youhave completed or left your course and definitelynot before April 2016. Repayments will beautomatically deducted from your earningsthrough the tax system. There will be fixedrepayments of 9% of your salary above the£21,000 threshold, irrespective of the loanbalance. Any outstanding loan balance will bewritten off after 30 years.

Therefore if you earn £25,000 a year your loanrepayments will equate to around £360 a year or£30 a month. These repayments will be linked toearnings rather than loan amount, so regardlessof how much you owe, the payments will be thesame.

WHAT SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE FOR ME IFI’M STUDYING AN ACCESS TO HIGHEREDUCATION COURSE?
