Stephen’s Strands

Summer is here and temperatures are heating up. As the temperature rises, we

instinctively thirst for water because our bodies need it to rehydrate. When our lives

heat up from stressful challenges, it is important for us to remember to spiritually

rehydrate with the living water of Jesus Christ.

Psalm 63:1-8 is a great example of what it means to “thirst” for God from the depths

of our soul. We must rehydrate our souls through the living water of the Holy Spirit. Let

this Psalm speak to you and guide your thirst for the Lord this summer!

God’s best to you! Stephen

Psalm 63:1–8 (NRSV) 1 O God, you are my God, I seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. 2 So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory. 3 Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. 4 So I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands and call on your name. 5 My soul is satisfied as with a rich feast, and my mouth praises you with joyful lips 6 when I think of you on my bed, and meditate on you in the watches of the night; 7 for you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

Rainbow ConneCtionSummer is in full swing here at Rainbow! Already our summer camp kids have been to swim lessons, the petting zoo on the square, and vaca-tion bible school. New this summer was a visit to Mr. Stephen’s 402 Per-maculture Gardens. There they learned how worms make dirt and were even able to plant their own morning glory to take home. Thank you so much Mr. Stephen for providing us with such a wonderful learning experi-ence! Every Tuesday is the summer reading program at the library and on Wednesdays we will be going to the movies in Mt. Pleasant. Not to be left out on the summer fun, our younger kids will be able to enjoy water day here at Rainbow every Thursday. We have had a GREAT first half of sum-mer and are looking forward to more of the same for the second half.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share that anything you do, whether BIG or SMALL in honor of our Lord, and you glorify Him…It’s a GOOD THING!!! We are eternally grateful for the hard work that was done by the UMARMY adults and students. There were 140 people working as teams in Mt. Vernon & surrounding cities, and if you would like a tour of the homes, I will be glad to take you! All week long the students invited their clients (these are the people that had the work done) to din-ner on Friday night. The gym was packed and Van Alstyne people brought smoked briskets along with sides…I loved seeing the activity of the people as

church families gathered together all as one in the name of Jesus Christ! Afterwards, we gathered in the sanctuary and the friends shared these won-derful stories of gratefulness coming from their hearts of the work being done by the students. The Holy Spirit welcomes us always…and to witness the work of the Holy Spirit through the words shared is amazing!! Also, THANK YOU to everyone that brought desserts—they all gobbled them up as quickly as they were brought. I stand in Awe…thank you FUMCMV for sharing God’s church!Grace and Peace
