Noteworthy accomplishments as Chair:

Staffed, scheduled, and supervised COM 161 (Public Speaking) and COM 131 (Introduction to Interpersonal Communication) for “Racer Academy”, a dual-credit program for high school students. Annually, over 150 high school students earned credit through these COM courses.

Expanded faculty from 10 full-time faculty and 3 adjunct faculty in 2002 to 12 full-time faculty (including the Chair) and 23 adjunct faculty in 2014.

Working with the Office of Development and the Dean of Libraries, over $75,000 were secured in alumni funding to create and equip the new Racer Oral Communication Center in Waterfield Library. The Center ensures that all students can receive one-on-one presentation and communication skills training.

RESEARCH INTERESTS:

My primary research interest focuses on the communication processes of “exit” including both voluntary and involuntary forms of exit and retention in for-profit, non-profit, and volunteer organizations. Of special interest is exit in high-turnover, service industries (e.g., healthcare, shipping/logistics, and social services). Additional areas of interest include communication processes of organizational innovation, entrepreneurial organizations, transient leadership, and dialogue in the workplace. I have also conducted research on health communication, basic courses, and communication administration.
