an understanding of basic word processing concepts and basic features of Microsoft Word. This course will build on earlier knowledge to encourage

expertise in advanced applications and exploration of the use of Web 2.0 in business communication. The student should have a basic understanding

of Windows and its use in opening programs and documents.

PROJECTS, EXAMS (PROFICIENCY AND OBJECTIVE) – There will be proficiency (SAMS) exams, a hands-on exam, Web 2.0

FINAL EXAM: Exam Opens December 12, Closes December 15 at 10 am

PARTICIPATION: No Makeup Exams will be given and No Late Work is accepted.

Late Work Policy In order to move quickly and successfully, specific deadlines for all assignments are clearly stated in the course syllabus. No late work is accepted -

No Exceptions. For weekly assignments, the due dates for both Web 2.0, SAMS and Textbook Assignments are on Friday at 10 AM -- That is 10 in

the morning. If you work and can’t upload on Friday, you had better get your work uploaded ahead of time. THERE IS AT LEAST ONE

ASSIGNMENT DUE EVERY FRIDAY!

Unit Assignments: These assignments are designed to assist you in performing well on the tests. These assignments are listed in the assignment

section of MyCourses. LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. THERE IS NO ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE FOR LATE WORK, AS ALL

CLASS PROCEDURES

Assignment Submission Assignments from the textbook must be uploaded to the Assignment section. The SAMS Exams will be recorded automatically to the SAMS

program but not the MyCourses gradebook. These require that I put the scores into the grade book in “MyCourses” manually. I will usually only

record grades once a week. When you have questions, be sure to check the FAQ section on the homepage of the course.

Exams Exams MAY NOT BE COMPLETED at times other than the scheduled times. Should a serious illness or death in the family prevent you from

completing a test or exam, contact your instructor BEFORE MISSING THE EXAM. In these extreme cases, it is possible, however unlikely, that a

different assignment will be given as a substitute. The make-up assignment would have to be completed on campus at the convenience of the

instructor. If no contact is made before the absence, there will be no makeup. My office phone has voice mail if I have already left for class.

Program Learning Outcomes

Program learning outcomes define the knowledge, skills, and abilities students are expected to demonstrate upon completion of an academic

program. These learning outcomes are regularly assessed to determine student learning and to evaluate overall program effectiveness. You may

access the program learning outcomes for your major and particular courses at http://cobweb.sfasu.edu/plo.html.

General Student Policies The following policies apply to all students enrolled in courses at Stephen F. Austin State University. You may also access these policies at

http://cobweb.sfasu.edu/gsp.html.

Plagiarism and Cheating Cheating is the easiest way to fail this class. Plagiarism and cheating are not acceptable and will not be tolerated! No points will be given to any

assignment where plagiarism or copying exists. Plagiarism includes copying information from another source (fellow student, magazine article,

published text, Internet, etc.) without properly citing the source of the information. This class will follow the university’s revised policy (April 30,

2001) on Cheating and Plagiarism. See the further information below as well as the web site for this policy --

http://www.sfasu.edu/upp/pap/ACADEMIC_AFFAIRS/CHEATING_AND_PLAGIARISM.html

NOTE!!!!!! If two people turn in papers with sufficient similarities to indicate that they were typed by only one person, even if a few changes were

made, BOTH people will receive a ZERO on that assignment and for all homework assignments for the entire semester. The daily assignments are

designed to prepare you for the exams. They are worth minimal points and are not worth being caught cheating on!

Academic Integrity (A-9.1) Academic integrity is a responsibility of all university faculty and students. Faculty members promote academic integrity in multiple ways including

instruction on the components of academic honesty, as well as abiding by university policy on penalties for cheating and plagiarism.

Definition of Academic Dishonesty - Academic dishonesty includes both cheating and plagiarism. Cheating includes but is not limited to (1) using or

GBU 310 – Fall 2010 Page | 6

attempting to use unauthorized materials to aid in achieving a better grade on a component of a class; (2) the falsification or invention of any

information, including citations, on an assigned exercise; and/or (3) helping or attempting to help another in an act of cheating or plagiarism.

Plagiarism is presenting the words or ideas of another person as if they were your own. Examples of plagiarism are (1) submitting an assignment as if

it were one's own work when, in fact, it is at least partly the work of another; (2) submitting a work that has been purchased or otherwise obtained

from an Internet source or another source; and (3) incorporating the words or ideas of an author into one's paper without giving the author due credit.

Please read the complete policy at invention of any information, including citations, on an assigned exercise; and/or (3) helping or attempting to help

another in an act of cheating or plagiarism. Plagiarism is presenting the words or ideas of another person as if they were your own. Examples of

plagiarism are (1) submitting an assignment as if it were one's own work when, in fact, it is at least partly the work of another; (2) submitting a work

that has been purchased or otherwise obtained from an Internet source or another source; and (3) incorporating the words or ideas of an author into

one's paper without giving the author due credit. Please read the complete policy at invention of any information, including citations, on an assigned

exercise; and/or (3) helping or attempting to help another in an act of cheating or plagiarism.

Withheld Semester Grades Policy (A-54) Ordinarily, at the discretion of the instructor of record and with the approval of the academic chair/director, a grade of WH will be assigned only if

the student cannot complete the course work because of unavoidable circumstances. Students must complete the work within one calendar year from

the end of the semester in which they receive a WH, or the grade automatically becomes an F. If students register for the same course in future terms,

the WH will automatically become an F and will be counted as a repeated course for the purpose of computing the grade point average.

Students with Disabilities To obtain disability related accommodations, alternate formats and/or auxiliary aids, students with disabilities must contact the Office of Disability

Services (ODS), Human Services Building, Room 325, 468-3004 / 468-1004 (TDD) as early as possible in the semester. Once verified, ODS will

notify the course instructor and outline the accommodation and/or auxiliary aids to be provided. Failure to request services in a timely manner may

delay your accommodations. For additional information, go to http://www.sfasu.edu/disabilityservices/.

Stephen F. Austin State University Policies Online Attendance/Tardiness The following changes to Stephen F. Austin State University’s Attendance/Tardiness policy are effective March 15, 2006:

Stephen F. Austin State University online courses have both synchronous and asynchronous requirements. Synchronous (or real-time) learning

experiences called seminars happen at the same time for all students in a section. Asynchronous learning experiences happen throughout the course

and do not require student participation at a scheduled time. The specific requirements for attendance are the following: Any first-term student, or

any student seeking reentry, who does not log into classes within the first seven days of the term will be withdrawn from their classes and their

enrollment will be cancelled. Students who have not participated in class by failing to log in for 21 consecutive calendar days (excluding scheduled

breaks) will be administratively withdrawn from their program. Students who fail to log into any class within the first 21 days of the term will be

dropped from the class or classes. Students dismissed due to nonattendance must apply for readmission by following reentry procedures. Students

may appeal to their school’s Associate Dean of Students if they feel an error has been made in their attendance calculation.

Class Schedule The instructor reserves the right to adjust this schedule as she deems necessary for the benefit of best material coverage for this course. For detailed

information on each Assignment set, see the Assignment Page listing in MyCourses.

Email Responses All emails need to occur in the “MyCourses” Email program in order to maintain a record of all messages. You can expect me to answer emails

during my office hours. This does not mean I will not answer at other times. However, I am not on 24-hour call. You need to ask any questions

allowing enough time to receive a response before the due date. When you send an email, if you would like a reply, please ask a specific question. If

you send me as message that does not ask a question, I will not be responding.
