Step 1: Create your Government of Canada online account

Step 2: Sign up with your information

Click Sign Up button to create your profile:

Proceed with the sign up process: agree to the terms and conditions, create your username, password, and set up

security questions and answers.

NOTE: Don’t forget your username, password and security answers. You will need them to check your application

status or to apply for another visa.

Step 3: Start an application

You can now start your application. Click Apply to come to Canada under Start an application section

Step 4: Personal Checklist

Have a personal reference code?

Enter your reference code and

click Continue.

Do NOT have a personal

reference code?

Click Visitor visa, study and/or

work permit

Step 5: Find out if you’re eligible to apply

(You won’t see this if you have a personal reference code)

Fill out your information and click Next to check your eligibility:

Note: If you already have a study

permit valid until the end of your

program, and you are applying for a

co-op work permit only, the

following answers are

recommended in most cases.

What would you like to do in

Canada?: Work

Do you plan to work on

campus: No

Are you a full-time student at a

participating post-secondary

institution and want to work

off-campus up to 20 hours per

week?: Yes

Have you recently graduated

from a participating Canadian

post-secondary institution for

which your study program was

full-time and a minimum of

eight months?: No

Is your work an essential part

of your studies (for example, a

Co-Op or internship

program)?: Yes

Step 6: Your results

Click Continue to proceed with Study Permit application.

NOTE: If you need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa), come back to this page after you submit co-op

work permit application.

Step 8: Answer the series of questions and Review your answers

Answer all the questions and make sure all your information is correct. Click Continue.

Click Continue to proceed

Note: If your answer is ‘Yes’ for the

following question, you are required

to submit a medical report by an IRCC

panel physician.

Step 9: Submitting you application

Read instructions thoroughly and Click Continue

Step 10: Your document checklist

Application Form

1) Click Application to Change

condition, Extend my Stay or Remain

in Canada as a Worker [IMM 5710] to

download the form.

2) Fill out all the information and

validate the form.

3) Upload the form by clicking Upload

File button.

Once all the required forms and

documents are provided, Next button

will appear.

Click Next to proceed.

Supporting Documents:

Upload each supporting document by

clicking Upload File button. Must upload

all documents in the Supporting

Documents section.

Co-op letter: Letter of Acceptance or

Work Practicum letter that confirms co-

op is an essential part of your program.

PDF, JPG, TIFF, PNG, DOC or DOCX

format with maximum of 4MB file size is

accepted.

Passport: scan the biodata page (page

with your picture, name and signature)

and all stamped pages

Digital photo: take your photo with a

camera or scan your passport-sized

photo

Note: if you wish to work in a job

such as health services, child care or

primary or secondary education, you

must upload your medical exam report

by IRCC Panel Physician.

Step 11: Your Declaration and Electronic Signature

Agree to the declaration, type an

electronic signature, answer the

security question, then click Sign

button to proceed.

Make sure every document has been

uploaded and Details status are Uploaded

Step 12: Signature

Click Transmit to proceed.

Step 13: Congratulations!

Once submitted, congratulations message will be displayed. You will receive Acknowledgement of Receipt letter in your

online account and your email. This is your proof of application submission. Make sure you keep this for your reference.
