#he selvedges are held by two endless chainstypically /2 to 32 metres in length and the fabricis conveyed through a series of heatedcompartments or bays% Hot air is directed onto thefabric e"ually from above and below% #heselvedges are held either on pins about 0 mm longmounted in base plates or by clips that grip theselvedges between smooth surfaces% 4ubrication

of the chain is important and this ta)es placeautomatically during running% #he lubricant mustbe completely stable during continuous high-temperature operation%

    Some features

Stenter speeds range from only &2 m$min for heavyweightfurnishings up to &22 m$min for lightweight dressgoods%5verfeed is fre"uently necessary to compensate for warp waystretch in previous processing and to minimise shrin)age inwashing and dry-cleaning%

#he speed of the fabric through the stenter is controlled bythe motion of the pin chain, but the fabric entry can bead6usted independently by the entry rollers%

#emperature uniformity over the entire area of fabric isensured

#oo low temperatures do not allow a good setting while toohigh temperatures and too long setting times cause yellowing( A and elastic bres*, sti7 hand (acrylics*, and loss ofelasticity (elastic bres*%
