My dear Confreres,

For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by theSpirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For

all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.ñ Rom. 8: 13-14

The month of January had been quite eventful for the Province ofVisakhapatnam, a mixture of both joyful and sorrowful moments.First of all, on 24th January, we had the celebration of our heavenlyPatron St. Francis de Sales, celebrated with much fervor andenthusiasm all over the Province marking it with various spiritualactivities.

Secondly, on the same day, we have begun on a large scale theprayer of devotion to our beloved Founder, Servant of God, Fr. PeterMary Mermier.

Thirdly, a week earlier i.e. on 15th January 2017, after a long wait, the foundation stone for the construction of the new SFS Church atSFS Parish, Chinna Waltair in Visakhapatnam, was laid by MostRev. Dr. Mallavarapu Prakash, Archbishop of Visakhapatnam, in thepresence of so many Priests, Religious Sisters, Brothers, and thefaithful.

Fourthly, on 24th January 2017, Most Rev. Polimera Jaya Rao, Bishopof Eluru, ordained seven of our Brothers as deacons at SFS StudyHouse, Janampeta, Eluru. And again on 28th January 2017, Bro. Ch.Rajesh was ordained deacon at Fransalian Seminary, Pune.

Fifthly, towards the last week of the same month followed the saddemise of our three of our dear confreres and the veteranmissionaries, leaving us all in grief and sorrow. On 26th January 2017,for the first time in the history of the Visakhapatnam Province, two ofour confreres, Rev. Fr. Nellikunnel George, 97 years, and Rev. Fr.Zacharias Mannukuzhumpil, 93 years, passed away within few hoursgap. While Fr. George died at 3.15 p.m., Fr. Zacharias passed awayat 8 p.m. Incidentally, both of them were known to be best friendsfrom their very days of formation which they continued during theirstay at Stella Maris at the fag end of their life too. I dare to say thatGod rewarded them with the entry into his paradise on the same dayto these great missionary friends.

There are two very special moments in each day of our life, namely, sunrise and sunset. Likewise, there are also two very special andsure moments in every human life, namely, birthday and death day. While we celebrate the birthday very specially, we mourn at the death.Death is a subject that we often prefer not to speak too much aboutor reflect on.† In our Christian reflection there are times when wehave fallen into a similar trap.† Despite our hope of resurrection, death remains for the Christian painful and mysterious.† It involves apassage to new life in God. The life that opens to us after this life isnew life, it is not in any way a replica of this life, but somethingcompletely transformed.†

Death and resurrection belong to the very essence of Christian belief.†The Christian teaching about new life is not about what sort of placeheaven might be, but rather of a relationship, of seeing God face toface.† The Christian teaching about new life is about a relationshipof intimacy with Christ.

Let us therefore hope and pray that God would grant them the eternalbliss to enjoy that vision of God.

Death among people is only a passage from life to another. To die is nothing but to depart from the limitations of mortal life

and enter into immortal life. - St. Francis de Sales

Kavvagunta Faithful witnessing three great events in one day:Kavvagunta is one of the beautiful villages of Pedavegi Mandal, withguava gardens and coconut gardens. One of the notable specialtiesof Kovvagunta is that it was baptized by Rev. Fr. Though economicallypoor, the Catholics are very much loyal to the Catholic faith.

The faithful were very much jubilant to have three events on thatparticular day namely: blessing and laying the foundation stone forthe Our Ladyís grotto, celebration of the Feast of Our Lady and theSacerdotal Silver Jubilee of our Bishop. The holy Eucharisticcelebration started at 10:30 am. There were 55 children who receivedthe First Holy Communion and 66 faithful received the Sacrament ofConfirmation from 4 villages of Kotha Kavagunta, Patha Kavagunta,KP. Gudem, and CM. Pally. Many religious Priests and Nuns fromdifferent religious houses like MSFS, Vincentians, Holy Spirit, St.Lucy, DSFS, St. Annís of Luzern, and many diocesan Priests madethis celebration a very memorable to all the faithful, with their valubleprayers and presence.

It was a collective effort of all the Fathers, Brothers and Sisters whoare pastorally related to the three villages. A special note of thanksto Rev. Fr. Jolly MSFS, Rev. Fr. Augustine MSFS, and Fr.
