What are Steel Decking Sheets?

Steel decking sheets are trapezoidal profiled, galvanised steel sheets that can be used as a structural base layer for a flat roof or double skin metal roof systems.

Roof decking is also now widely used to support the heavy soil and vegetation load of an Eco friendly Green Roof System).

Roof decking sheets can be fitted to lightweight purlins or sheeting rails.

Their structural design and heavy gauge allows for large spans, so can be fitted directly to the main building portal. These methods of fixing will not only help brace the building but will help make significant savings on material labour costs by reducing the amount of structural steelwork needed, and minimising associated labour costs.

The increased desire for an uncluttered internal appearance of the roof space has allowed forward thinking architects and roofing contractors to use decking sheets on a variety of building projects both large and small.

Decking comes in a number of options depending on project load bearing specifications. Different profile depths, sheet gauges and either plain galvanised or enamel white underside sheets are available from Southern Sheeting Supplies. Our dedicated sales department can assist with cut to length sheet sizes or supply from our carefully selected pre-cut sizes direct from stock.

Most roof decking profiles are 60mm deep and supplied in either 0.7mm, 0.9mm or 1.2mm thick.

Structural Decking Sheets for Concrete FloorsSteel decking sheets are also widely used for structural flooring. The decking sheet is strong enough to support the heavy load of concrete to create new levels within a building and ideal for mezzanine floors.

The profiles used for floor decking are different than those used for roofing due to the extra loads they support.

Roof Decking Sheets are also available to order with a white enamel painted underside. The white side gives a clean, light reflective internal view of the roof, eliminating the need for liner panel.

Southern Sheeting recognises the increased demands by contractors for fast delivery times on building materials. With this in mind we now stock large quantities of cut to length sizes of RD60 profile sheets in a 0.9mm thickness to cover most roof decking applications off-the-shelf.

RD60 is the only roof decking profile available in the UK that achieves a full 1 meter of cover width. This not only allows for quick and easier area calculations but more importantly reduces labour time and associated costs compared to other narrower profiles available.
