PRESS RELEASE!Event: ‘Mini-Olympian Games’ at Staunton Montessori School with Sports Celebrityand Medallist Nicola Deaton, endorsed by Dr Miriam Stoppard OBEDate & Time: Wednesday 18

An outstanding local nursery school is hosting a 'Mini-Olympian Games Event' showcasing eight different sports which will be introduced topossibly for the first time. Nursery parent Nicolachampion, will bring Commonwealth Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to show the children. Nicola, who lives in Nottinghamshire, will be encouraging the children in sports, especially junior table tennis, and will present children with gold medals for attending the event. The event will also be attended by the National Cheer Leading Champion, Rachel Hammond who teaches dance in Newark and at Staunton. (Please note the event cannot be called ‘Mini-Olympics’ as this name is subject to copyright law.)

We will be hosting a range of sports including an Early Years balance-bike velodrome event, junior hockey, badminton and tennis as well as football and running. We will continue to promote sports and physical well-being at Stauntonfuture providing our own little 'Olympicwith JJB Sports, is leading an event and co-ordinating the equipment.

Celebrity doctor Miriam Stoppard OBE, Staunton Montessori School’s Honorary patron said:

“Promoting a child’s good health and recognising a child’s talents is a key role for parents, childcarers and teachers. I have always aimed to give people the confidence to follow their instincts in understanding what’s best for their child or the child they care for. Exercise and sport gives young children the chance to express their innate desire for physical development. Individual children will have differing aptitudes and inclinations towards different types of sport and recreational movement.”Miriam Stoppard also added:“At Staunton Montessori School, where I am the Honorary Patron, a great deal of planning and consideration is given to children’s physical development. The setting offers Early Years sports, yoga and dance lessons. However, in this lead up to the Olympics I am thrilled to learn of the ‘Mini-Olympian Games’. I am very pleased that the children will have the opportunity to experience, sometimes for the first time, a wide range of different sports which are being show-cased with the help of parents, sports coaches and sports celebrities. This is a great opportunity for the children to develop an early interest in sports. This early exposure to such a wide range of physical activities sets up positive habits for later life.
