WHAT HAS BEEN DONE: BICYCLE REQUIREMENTSINCREASED:

hand brake requirements• must withstand force of 100lbs

Chain guard requirements• Chain must have tensile strength of a tensile strength of 1800 lbf

Pedal requirements• Required to have treads

• Required to have reflectors

Tire requirements• Tires must hold integrity when inflated to 110% of the recommended pressure

Steering requirements• Handle bars must maintain composure past 15lb of pressure-Credit to United States Consumer Product Safety

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE: GENERAL SAFETY•Marked bike lanes/paths

•Bike crossing signs

•Helmet durability advancements

•Turn signal (use of hands)

•Bike bells

•Bicycle headlights

•General traffic rules (safe biking)

-Even with these added safety measures and practices by cyclists, the amount of injuries occurring from cycling remains fairly constant.

Steps have been taken for the production of bikes, the laws surrounding them, as well as general guidelines to promote biker safety. It is for this reason that we believe our wearable will provide the safety for bikers that past measures

haven’t.

THE SOLUTION: BICYCLIST SAFETY VESTOur proposed solution: A bicyclist safety vest. One common issue among the majority of cycling accident causes is the inability to communicate a change in direction. The most common accidents arise from a miscommunication between cyclist and vehicle, pedestrian, or other hazard. The vest attachment works much like the taillights of a car. It allows the biker to switch lanes, make turns and navigate through populated environments safely and efficiently. The device makes biking safer for the cyclist and everyone he/she comes in contact with.
