STATUS OF LEGISLATION

This booklet contains a list of all the bills that were introduced in theNova Scotia House of Assembly in Spring and Summer 2013. Thissitting is the Fifth Session of the Sixty-first General Assembly.

A Government Bill is distinguished by designating the portfolio ofthe Minister who introduced it. A Private Member’s Bill (non-Government public bill) or Private or Local Bill is distinguished bygiving the constituency of the member who introduced it.

In Nova Scotia, all Government Bills and Private Members’ Bills,after receiving second reading, are referred to the Law AmendmentsCommittee unless the House otherwise determines. The only excep-tion to this rule is the appropriations bill which is governed by spe-cial rules of the House. All Private or Local Bills, after receivingsecond reading, are referred to the Committee on Private and LocalBills unless the House otherwise determines.

Where a bill has received Royal Assent, the Chapter number in the2013 Statutes is given as well as the time of commencement.
