Philippines system for data collection

• Data collection conducted prior to drafting of a standard

• Samples collected using purposive sampling

• Sampling location is selected based on the regions with high volume of production for the commodity

• Farms, trading posts, markets and retail outlets to be sampled are identified and selected per municipality of each region

• Members of the Technical Working Group collect samples and submit to government/academic laboratories

• The data analyzed by the TWG, incorporated in the draft standard

• For the conduct of risk assessment prior to the development of a standard, consumption data are derived from the FNRI of DST

Have you provided data for international standardization ?

Data provided by Indonesia for Int Std Devpt. • Contaminants in foods • Fish and fishery products • Milk and milk product • Processed fruits and vegetable • Fresh fruits and vegetables • Veterinary drugs in food • Food hygiene • Pesticide residue limits • and also to develop the Proposed Draft Regional

Standard for Tempe After data compiled, data analyzed by an expert group

Page 16: Status of implementing International standard at national

Have you provided data for international standardization ?

Data provided by Philippines for Int Std Devpt.

• Data have been submitted to different Codex Committees like CCFA, CCFH, CCMAS, CCPR, CCRVDF, CCCF.

• Philippines submits consumption data to JECFA and JMPR, eg.

1. Codex Committee on Food Hygiene

a. JEMRA Call for Additional Data on Fresh Produce

b. Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meeting on Risk Assessment Tools for V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus

Do you have capacity for data analysis

• Indonesia: In general, after data has been compiled, the data is analysed by an expert group consisting of experts in relevant field.

• Philippines: see next slide • Thailand : - conducted risk assessment including analysis of data

e.g. contamination data, consumption data. - Statistical programme, for example SPSS to analyze data before

submitting to Codex is used • Vietnam : Number of laboratories and department have capacity

for conducting surveys, assessment, investigations - They are also able to do data analysis for some important

indicators/characteristic of food safety both qualitatively and quantitatively.

- However, these are not consistent and, often, a validity of data and analysis results are of question

Page 20: Status of implementing International standard at national

Capacity for data analysis: Philippines

• BAFPS-DA consults with international experts on data analysis particularly on risk assessment (chronic and acute dietary exposure)

• Other international government office like Australia’s Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and regional organization like ILSI are also being consulted

• Local technical officers trained by FSANZ, FAO, ILSI, APEC in conducting risk analysis are tapped as experts

• Local experts are also available particularly for Biotechnology, Pesticide Residues, Contaminants and analysis of Consumption Data and Statistics

Page 21: Status of implementing International standard at national

Any other details you may like to provide

• Cambodia :Need training in the practical way to promote the work of TWGs, the efficient way the national position be developed

• Philippines : Food Development Center of NFA was created Central Contaminants Laboratory of DA . It is accredited / recognized by USDA, AQIS, Japan's Ministry of Health as accredited Laboratory for Food Testing, Food Additives and Food Processing Equipment and Packing, ISO 9001:2000.
