The reports of the agricultural and mechanical colleges for the years'1918-19 and1919-20 are indicative of marked material progress.
INCREASE IN TEACHING STAFF.
The teaching force has greatly increased during the biennium. The number ofresident teacnrs giving instruction in 1918-19 was 7,693 men and 1,365 women; for1919-20 the number increased to 8,515 men and 1,504 women.
was, however, a marked increase from 1918 to 1919; the number of teachers in 1917-18was'476; in 1919 it increased to 570,'of whom 342 were men and 228 women.
STUDENT ENROLLMENTS.
As a result of the World War the land-grant colleges suffered a serious decline instudent enrollment during 1917-18, the number for that year being 114,913, or 7;140less than for 191k-17.
In 1918-19 t olleges not only regained what they had lost but increased to thenumber of 152,031; 119,576 were men and 32,404 were women, and of these 54,167 men'.and 18,667 women were in classes of collegiate grade.
For 1919-20 the to,tal enrollment was 140,019; 109,33 men and 36,687 women;92,830 of the total were of collegiatelgrade, 66,699 men and 26,731 women.
tMILITARY EDUCATION.'
The enrollment in the several units of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps for1918-19 was 18,139. The total number of students, including the Reserve Officers'Training Corps, who took the require4 military training was 4,043; in 1919-20 theenrollment in military training was 35,1.38.
INCOME. ,
The income of the lan,krant'colleges showed a fair increase for 1918-19. In 1917-18the income for instruction and administration was $38,564,655. In-1918-19 it hadincreased $4,668,248, or to $43,232,901; in 1919-20 the income reached the of$58,240,992. This does not include 'the funds available under the Smith- ver,'Hatch-Adams, and Smith-Hughes Acts.

TIIE LAND-GRANT FUND OF 1862.
Under the act of Congress of July 2, 1862, 10,920,000 acres of public land were allottedto the several States; of these, 611,763 acres remain unsold. The income from the Baleof these lands in 1918-19 was $977,079; in 1919-20 it was $952,007.
