Leader:During Lent, and especially onGood Friday, we take time toremember the journey of Jesusto Calvary.

Jesus loved his Father always. In his journey to Calvary, Jesus

loved his Father to the end.

Priest:

We will hear about people whohurt Jesus by their sins. We willbe asked to reflect on how wehave hurt others by our sins.

All: We adore you O Christ and we praise you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.

Jesus is Condemned to Death



All pray:My Jesus, Help us to be gratefulfor what you did for us. Help usto accept criticism and unfairnessas you did, and not complain. Helpus pray for those who have hurtus.

Jesus Receives His Cross

All: We adore you O Christ and we praise you, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world



All pray:My Jesus, you took on our troubles,our sins and carried them to Calvary. Your sacrifice was not in vain. Eachtime we participate in the Eucharistmay we become more resolved to

helpothers to carry their cross in life andto ensure that our thoughtlessnessand self-pity does not add furtherburden to others.

Jesus Falls for the First Time




All pray:My Jesus, you fell down under theweight of the cross and the taunts ofyour captors. Even though it was sodifficult, you got back up on your feetand you pushed ahead. You did notgive up. Give us the courage andstrength to rise above the scorn ofothers and our human weakness and tokeep going when times are difficult.

Jesus Meets His Mother




All pray:My Jesus, you and your mother had a special bond. Her sadness at your suffering can only be imagined. Be with all parents today who face the loss of their children. Be their comfort, ease their heartbreak and heal their pain.

Simon of Cyrene Helps Jesus to Carry the Cross




All pray:My Jesus, help end our indifference to theneeds of others. Every day in the news wesee or hear of people suffering, butbecause we cannot see them face to face,we shut out their silent pleas for help. May we become Simon for them in theirhour of need and take on the role ofservants in imitation of Jesus who came ‘toserve’ and not to be served.



Veronica Wipes the Face of Jesus




All pray:My Jesus, Veronica shows us your face ofsuffering. Give us the insight to see yourface in the people we meet each day and thegrace to offer help when we can. Help ustoo, not to forget the poor and marginalizedthroughout the world. Let us not forget thosewho weep because of disease and loss. Let

usresolve to face up to our responsibility inhelping to relieve the pain of others.

Jesus Falls the Second Time




All pray:My Jesus, it is tempting to lie low whenthings get difficult – to hide ourselvesaway and not to keep trying. Webecome impatient with ourselves andwith others and we allow ourselves tobecome depressed and lose hope. Jesus, grant us the courage andstrength to keep trying as you did. Give us the grace to continue on thejourney, one step at a time.

Jesus Meets the Women of Jerusalem




All pray:My Jesus, you always reached out toothers and offered comfort and hopeto the suffering. You were selfless inyour love. Help us to follow yourexample and to trust that nothing

canhappen to us that we, with your help,can’t handle. Keep us on the road ofselflessness with hearts open to theneeds of others.

Jesus Falls for the Third Time




All pray:Lord, we are human and sometimes wegive up completely if we fail more thanonce. Give us the courage andstrength to pick ourselves up as youdid on the road to Calvary. Give usthe humility to accept the help ofothers on our journey and turn to youfor inner strength when we feel aloneand dispirited.

Jesus is Stripped of His Clothes




All pray:My Jesus, you knew humiliation andembarrassment when you were robbed ofyour very dignity. You were always thechampion of the poor, the ones that everyoneelse had forgotten about. You always treatedeveryone with respect and great love: women,lepers, sinners, tax collectors, the sick andthe disabled. Help us to follow your exampleand to restore the dignity of those who aremade poor because of our selfishness.

Jesus is Nailed to the Cross




All pray:My Jesus, words are not enough to describethe pain and suffering of your ordeal. Forgive us for all our unkind thoughts, wordsand actions that cause such pain to you andto others. Open our eyes to the heartbreakour selfishness can inflict on others. May wenever turn away from our responsibilitytoward others and always seek to reconcilerather than to divide. May our efforts ensurea peaceful and just society.

Jesus Dies on the Cross

All pray:My Jesus, you gave everything so thatothers could live. You willingly gaveyour life for us and suffered soterribly so that we will be able to liveforever with God. Give us the graceto follow your example and to give ofourselves and not count the cost.

The Body of Jesus is Taken Down From the Cross

All pray:My Jesus, the sadness of Mary is livedagain in the sorrow of peoplethroughout the world who have lostloved ones. Give us the grace to offercomfort to those whose lives aretouched by death. Help us to liveevery day as if it were our last and totruly appreciate the many blessingswhich we have received in our lives.
