To enrich the quality of life for all people, to foster tradition Christian values and nurture

relationships through opportunities for renewal and growth –

spiritual, intellectual, cultural and physical, while preserving Lakeside’s heritage.

2014: Year in Review

• We celebrate: – Great programming season fulfilling our mission

– Many happy guests and improved staff performance

– Facility Upgrades • Phase II Chautauqua Park

• Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile

• Bradley Temple

• Shuffleboard and Tennis improvements

• Fountain Inn

• Legacy House

– Memorial Garden • So far, 20 have been laid to rest

• Record level of investment – Over $2.4 million past 24 months

• 2014 Lakeside Fund – $ 551,654 raised

– 3rd highest in Lakeside’s history

– Thanks to Tom & Debbie Jones and Doug & Kathy Bohl, Lakeside Fund co-chairs

– Thanks to all of our Lakeside Ambassadors

• Increased gifts to endowment – $ 159,947 (Highest in last 10 yrs.)

• Short Term Financial Challenges – Generated net operating gain in 2015, but not

enough to cover deficit • Planned deficit in 2014 budget

• Revenue slightly down to budget

• Expenses over budget but in conquest of guest service excellence, a board goal

• A few Lakeside Fund anomalies

• Long Term Financial Challenges – Continue to grow Lakeside Fund

and the Endowment

• Led by the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation

• In collaboration with and support of Lakeside Chautauqua’s board and Strategic Plan

• Interviewed 6 fundraising consultant firms

• Selected Dublin-based Cramer & Associates – More than 70 years of success in fundraising

and development strategies

– Extensive client portfolio

– They know and understand Lakeside

• Last summer:

– Accommodations Task Force brought proposal to board

– Board took no action but agreed to present project to community for transparency

– Ended season with board chair communication

• Pursue historically-sensitive restoration in current footprint

• Financial model relies upon better occupancy/rate structure and fall and spring shoulder seasons

• Meeting with restoration contractors who can provide actual costs of construction

• We’ve been listening

• We’ve cut back the project

– No addition of guest rooms and conference space

– No reliance on group business during winter months

– No consideration of alcohol sales

• Accommodations and Guest Services Committee will bring recommendation to the full board on May 15th

• Since January 2015: – Interviewed 8 historic preservation contractors

– Selected PCS/Coon Restoration • Conducted thorough analysis

• Prepared hard cost estimate

– Shared details with small focus group • Received positive feedback

• Additional ideas

– Hosting series of workshops • Hard cost details, Financing model,

and Investment tax credits

– Still LOTS of work to be done

– Earliest filing of application for historic preservation tax credits would be 2016

• Response to demand for incentive to park in the South Lot

• Board voted to approve 2015 Daily Auto Pass – Daily rate:

• $10 inside the gates

• $5 in South Lot

• $1 at Danbury Schools

– Season Auto Pass • $145 before May 31

• $165 after June 1
