STATE 4-H DAY 2017 State Contacts: Brent Clark, Micalyn Stump, Marsha Price
PURPOSE: State 4-H Day is an annual event that provides 4-H members with the opportunity to participate in state level Public Speaking, Digital/PowerPoint and Visual Presentation competitions as well as several other educational events throughout the day. WHO: 4-H members ages 9-21 who qualify at the county level are encouraged to attend. WHEN: May 20, 2017 WHERE: WVU, Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Camp, Weston, WV COST: There is no cost for 4-H Member registration for State 4-H Day presentations. Participant travel, food, and lodging arrangement and expenses are the responsibility of 4-H members and their families. Lodging: Lodging is available on Friday and/or Saturday evening at the WVU Jackson’s Mill State 4-H Camp. Those interested in securing lodging will need to contact WVU Jackson’s Mill directly at 1-800-287-8206 for pricing and room reservations. Meals: Lunch options will be available, more information will be sent closer to the event. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Registration for participants in Visual Presentation, PowerPoint/Digital Presentation, Public Speaking events and other activities must be postmarked by Friday, April 21, 2017. However, registration materials may be accepted for some events if space and supplies are adequate. Completed health forms and media release forms are required for all participating youth. DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST: The State 4-H Public Speaking Contest will be held on Saturday for youth who have pre-qualified on the county level. This event will take place on Saturday 9am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 3:00pm VISUAL PRESENTATION CONTESTS: All categories of the State Visual Presentation Contest will be held on Saturday for youth who have pre-qualified on the county level. This event will take place on Saturday 9am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 3:00pm
POWERPOINT/DIGITAL PRESENTATION CONTESTS: All categories of the State PowerPoint Presentation Contest will be held on Saturday for youth who have pre-qualified on the county level. This event will take place on Saturday 9am – 12:00pm and 1:00pm – 3:00pm 4-H CREED CONTEST: The 4-H Creed Contest is designed to allow 4-H members to compete in a friendly, less-formal competition
designed to build public speaking confidence and skills.
Eligibility:
a. Junior Division: The individual must be a 4-H member and must not have reached his/her 14th birthday on or before January 1, 2016.
b. Senior Division: The individual must be a 4-H member and must be at least 14 years of age on or before January 1, 2016.
Tracks
Since the 4-H Creed Contest is designed to build public speaking confidence and skills we will offer two tracks to
allow participants to take full advantage of all the opportunities available at State 4-H Day whether the
member has had weeks to prepare and memorize the 4-H Creed, or if a member decides to register on-site.
a. Track 1-This track will be for those participants that feel confident in reciting the 4-H Creed from memory.
b. Track 2-This track is for those participants that wish to have a copy of the 4-H Creed available to them during the recitation. Please note that for this track, the highest number of points a participant can receive for “Words Correct” is 5 points (see score sheet).
YOUTH AND FAMILY EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: (10am – 3pm) Throughout the day 4-H members and their families will have the opportunity to participate in free activities which include disc golf, Jackson’s Mill Historic Area programs, Jackson’s Mill Tours, group games and STEM activities.

2017 STATE 4-H DAY REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
County Responsibilities:
Complete one “State 4-H Day Registration Form” in its entirety for each 4-H member registering
to participate at State 4-H Day presentations. Individual registration forms are needed for all
members of teams competing in events.
Supply three score sheets (with the top participant information section filled out) for each
Visual Presentation, PowerPoint/Digital Presentation, and Public Speaking contest entry form.
Please include county name on all three score sheets. Use the most current version of score
sheets – these are available at http://4-hyd.ext.wvu.edu/events_forms/state4_hday.
Registration for participants in Visual Presentation, PowerPoint/Digital Presentation and Public
Speaking competitive events must be postmarked by Friday, April 21, 2017. However, on-site
registration may be accepted for walk-ins if space and supplies are adequate.

RULES TO BE OBSERVED WHILE AT WVU EVENTS
We are pleased that you will be participating in State 4-H Day. Take time to review the rules
below. All participants, family members and guests are required to read and follow the rules
while at WVU Events.
1. 4-H'ers, family members and guests should use caution if bringing jewelry, cameras,
personal electronic devices, or other items of value to State 4-H Day. We cannot be
responsible for any articles brought to the event.
2. Pets are not permitted in WVU facilities.
3. The use, consumption, or possession of alcoholic beverages, liquor, beer (including
non-intoxicating beer), and unlawful items, such as illegal non-prescription drugs, is not
permitted during State 4-H Day. Anyone arriving for the event while under the influence
of any of the above substances will not be permitted to register. If any WVU Extension
faculty member has a good, solid reason to believe a youth not accompanied by an adult
has an illegal item or substance in his/her possession, or is under the influence of said
substance, the agent has the right to inspect or search the possessions of the person in
his/her presence. State 4-H Day event staff have the right to send the individual home
and ban his/her participation in the event.
4. 4-H'ers, family members and guests will be charged the cost for any physical facility
damage they cause.
5. 4-H'ers, family members and guests are expected to participate in the State 4-H Day
program according to their schedule.
6. Tobacco use, including smoking, is not permitted.
