    1 Introduction

    1.1 Objective

    The objective of this TR is to standardize new and, as far as possible, also existing offshore cranes in

    Statoil. This document gives a description of additional requirements and details to those given in NS-

    EN 13852-1 General purpose offshore cranes, and is an amendment to this standard applicable to

    Statoil. Several requirements come from actions taken after actual incidents with offshore cranes.

    1.2 Warrant

    Operation, maintenance and modification (AR12) (Statoil Group/All locations/On- offshore)

    2 Requirements

    2.1 General

    Technical requirements in this document describe which properties the different functions of the crane

    shall have. The document describes additional requirements to NS-EN 13852-1 and clarifies different

    subjects in NS-EN 13852-1.

    Each section has a reference (in brackets) to the relevant chapter in NS-EN 13852-1 to easily correlate

    to the standard.

    2.2 Design (addendum to chap. 4 and app. D)

    In order to verify that the crane complies with NPD 4 The facilities regulations:

    Failure in a single component, in a system or a single action shall not give unacceptable

    consequences, a FMECA analysis for the crane design on a component level shall be submitted to

    Statoil before the manufacturing of the crane starts. The detail level shall cover all the components

    described in the Tag hierarchy, (see chapter 2.38). The FMECA analysis should be updated when

    changes in design during manufacturing occur.

    All non structural components, mounted with bolted connections outside on the crane, shall be securedin 2 ways against falling down.

    All equipment which are needed to re reeve the crane, mount boom extender, change wires etc., shall

    be a part of the crane delivery.

    When possible, it is recommended to use electrical prime movers instead of diesel engines, in order to

    reduce the NOx spills from the platform.

    However, if diesel engine is choosed, it shall be of the low NOx type.

    2.3 Wire sheaves (addendum to 5.2)

    The wire sheaves in the boom shall be provided with guides to prevent the wire jumping out of the

    wire sheaves in any position

    Each wire sheave shall have its own id.-mark and wear limits shall be given for sheave and sheavebearings. Position for wear measurement shall be indicated.

    The manufacturer shall construct for easy maintenance and inspection of the wires sheaves and bearing

    without the need for dismantling the wire sheaves.

    2.4 Power (clarification of 5.3)

    The crane shall have sufficient power to operate all motions (hoisting, luffing and slewing), without

    reduction in velocity on any of the motions.

    2.5 Electrical design (addendum to 5.3)

    Electrical systems and equipment shall be designed, procured and installed in compliance with the

    NSA regulations and NORSOK standards as listed below:

    NORSOK E-001: Electrical system. NORSOK E002: Adjustable speed AC motor drives (if applicable) NORSOK Z010: Electrical, Instrumentation and Telecommunication Installation

    On some of the existing installations system voltage, frequency or earthing system deviate from

    NORSOK E-001. These have to be clarified during the bid clarification.

    The slip rings shall be designed for the maximum short cicuit currents generated by the electrical

    power supply.

    The supplier shall describe in the bid list all electrical items and the required power consumption

    included in his supply.

    Equipment left live in an ESD situation shal be Ex certified according to NORSOK S-001. This

    includes also the slip rings.

    2.6 Programmable Logic Control System (addendum to 5.3)

    Programmable control system shall as far as possible follow IEC/EN 61508. In addition see OLF

    Guideline no. 70.

    2.7 Active Rope Tensioning System, ART (addendum to 5.4)

    The crane shall be equipped with an ART system for use during loading and unloading of supply

    vessels. The system shall have a separate button for arming the ART function before the ART function

    can be activated. The push button for activation of the ART system shall be of a hold to run type. The

    push button should be placed on the hoisting control lever.

    It shall only be possible to activate the ART function when the hook is in the sea lift zone and the

    weight of the load is below ART tension force. If the hook load exceeds the defined limit with the

    ART function armed, the ART function shall automatically be disarmed. When the hook is outside the

    sea lift zone, the ART activation and arming shall automatically be deactivated. Visual information in

    the cabin showing the status of the ART function shall be provided.

    The crane supplier shall include in the documentation a complete procedure for testing the ART

    system which includes testing of the system interlock logic.

    2.8 Whip hoist system (clarification of 5.4 and 5.6)

    It shall only be possible to override the upper limit switch with a key switch if this is necessary for

    maintenance or service.

    The hook speed shall be reduced before final stop by the limit switches.

    The whip hoist shall be equipped with a slack wire detection that stops the lowering of the hoist and

    gives visual and audio signal to the crane driver when activated.

    2.9 Main hoist system (clarification of 5.4 and 5.6)

    It shall only be possible to override the upper limit switch with a key switch if this is necessary for

    maintenance or service etc.

    The main hoist shall be equipped with a slack wire detection that stops the lowering of the hoist and

    gives visual and audio signal to the crane driver when activated.

    2.10 Boom system ((clarification of 5.4 and 5.6)

    The boom function shall be equipped with a slack wire detection that stops the lowering of the boom

    and gives visual and audio signal to the crane driver when activated.

    The boom velocity shall be reduced automatically before the upper limit on the boom winch is

    activated.

    2.11 Loss of electrical power supply (addendum to 5.4)

    In the event of a power failure in one or more of the cranes power supplies, three modes for further use

    of the crane are defined: Normal operation, Operation to safe position and Full stop. The

    listing below shows the requirements for each of the three alternatives. The manufacturer has to define

    the state of the crane if the power from different supplies is lost, and what consequence this has for

    further use of the crane. Generally, the manufacturer shall if possible design the systems in such a way

    that the state Full stop is avoided, if power is lost.

    Information about loss of power and the consequence of this shall be shown on the control panel.

    Normal operation can continue if the functions below are operational: Hydraulic power is available

    AOPS is working MOPS is working Control and safety systems are working Aircraft warning lights are working. Wind speed indicator or equivalent information is available UPS or battery power packs have power. Other safety related functions regarded by the crane supplier as necessary in order to have safe

    operation of the crane.

    It shall be possible to move the crane to a safe position if one or more of the following functions are

    not working:

    AOPS MOPS Aircraft warning lights

    VHF / UHF UPS or other battery power supply fails to deliver power.

    The crane shall be stopped when one of the following functions are lost:

    Main power supply Control or safety systems.

    2.12 Failure in UPS system in crane (addendum to 5.4)

    UPS generally supplies power to some of the cranes 24 VDC system. Failure in the UPS is referred toas failure in the backup function, but even though the mains are connected. Information about failure

    in the UPS-system shall be given on the control panel.

    2.13 Hydraulic hoses (addendum to 5.4)

    Hydraulic hoses shall be tested with 1.5 times the maximum working pressure of the hose. Makers test

    certificate to be delivered.

    2.14 Hydraulic- and pneumatic systems (addendum to 5.4)

    Hydraulic and pneumatic systems shall be designed according to EN13135-2,

    EN 982 and ISO 4413. In case of conflict between ISO 4413 and EN 982, then EN 982 shall apply.

    Fixed oil sample points shall be incorporated during the design of the crane on the subsystems pressure

    lines and on the return line, and on any pilot- and boost line in the hydraulic system. In addition the

    manufacturer shall describe limiting values regarding the quality of the hydraulic oil, and provide for

    ample filtration capacity for the system.

    The hydraulic oil tank shall have a design that makes it easy to drain off any water and deposits from

    the bottom of the tank. To obtain this, the tank bottom shall be in an angle, that leads down to the drain

    point. It shall be equipped with a breathing filter to avoid moisture to get into the tank.

    The hydraulic system shall be flushed by use of hot oil with temperature of at least +70 deg. C. The oil

    flow shall be turbulent in the system in order to ensure a good cleaning effect. The selected maker

    must document that the flushing oil is free from bacterial contamination.

    In addition, oil samples shall be taken both before and after commissioning, in order to ensure that the

    system oil is maintaining its quality before delivery of the crane. Statoil has the following minimumrequirements regarding quality of oil on offshore cranes:

    Cleanness level - ISO 16/14/11 (NAS 5) Max water content 150 p.p.m. Max acid value (TAN) = 7 Viscosity within !10% of specified level of delivered oil on the system

    The hydraulic circuit shall be equipped with Europa Micro filtration system.

    The hydraulic system shall be designed with good margins regarding capacity and replenishment so

    that unforeseen cavitation due to component wear is prevented.Separate cooling and heating of the hydraulic system shall be automatic temperature regulated.

    Every pre-charged accumulator shall be equipped with manometers and permanent means for draining

    the oil side, to ease verification of the pre-charge pressure.

    2.15 Engine room (addendum to 5.5)

    The machinery house shall be a separate weather enclosure containing at least the diesel engines /

    electric motors and the hydraulic pumps with all their accessories. The floor in the engine room shall

    be easily cleaned for oil spill. This means that the floor shall have drain. Fresh water and compressed

    air shall be available.

    The machinery house shall have a workbench (adjustable) with vice and sufficient space and facilities

    for operation and maintenance.

    A light shall be installed above the workbench (500 lux).

    A small store (shelves/cabinet) shall be installed inside the machinery house.

    Means shall be taken to prevent maintenance personnel to be exposed to hot surfaces and rotating

    parts.

    2.16 Boom (addendum to 5.5)

    Ladders with safety hoops shall be provided for inspection of aircraft warning lights, floodlights and

    wire sheaves if they cannot be reached from the boom walkway.

    It shall be possible to monitor any wear in the boom bearing without need for dismantling. Wear

    margins shall be given. Alternatively, the manufacturer shall state the operating time, which shall at

    least be 10 years with normal use according to the appliance group of the crane used in the design.

    2.17 Cabin (addendum to 5.5)

    The cabin shall be constructed in aluminium, with two rooms (air lock and main room). Door between

    the two rooms shall be hinged. The entrance door shall be sliding type door. The main room shall have

    a second chair with full view for the instructor.

    Side view shall be ! 100 when chair is in the back position.

    Inner walls shall be of a material that requires little maintenance and is fire resistant.

    Noise level in the cabin shall be max. 60 dB (A), ref. NORSOK S-001.

    One camera with zoom function shall be fitted to the boom tip to show the hook, and one above

    machinery to show spooling on the drums. One LCD colour display screen is to be fitted in the crane

    cabin, with possibility to switch between the two cameras. If the spooling on the drums is visible from

    the operator's position, the second camera is not required.

    Care shall be taken so that the sun does not inflict the visibility of the LCD screen and otherinstruments.

    An earthed double electric power socket (240 V, 16 A, single phase) and a battery hand torch of the

    explosion-protected type, attached to a charger unit, shall be installed.

    A durable copy of the load chart shall be mounted in a clearly visible position inside the drivers cabin.

    2.18 Windows (addendum to 5.5)

    Front- and side windows shall extend down to the floor with narrow safety crossbars.

    The window frames shall be as narrow as possible.

    It shall not be possible to open any of the cabin windows.

    The windows shall be equipped with sun blinds running in guides.

    Vertical moving windshield wipers are not acceptable.

    2.19 Drivers chair (addendum to 5.5)

    Control levers attached to the chair (controllers, consoles, armrests etc.) shall follow the chairs

    movements when the chair is adjusted in height, forward / backward or rotated. Other controls shall be

    placed within the recommended working areas for hands and feet.

    An adjustable, inclined footrest shall be provided. It shall not obstruct the free sight.

    It shall be possible to lock rotation of the chair in the normal operating position if the chair is rotatable.

    2.20 Radio communication (addendum to 5.5)

    The control cabin shall be equipped with both UHF and a VHF radio to enable the crane operator to be

    in continuous contact with a supply vessel and personnel on the platform. The equipment shall be

    located such that the operator may select channels whilst seated. The unit shall be equipped with a

    gooseneck microphone. "Push-to-talk" switch is to be placed on top of left crane control handle. Unitshall be supplied with a toggle switch to quickly change from UHF to VHF and vice-versa.

    Two PA loudspeakers shall be installed, to be connected to the PA system on the platform. One of

    them shall be installed in the crane cabin, the other in the machinery house.

    A combined FM radio and CD player complete with loud-speakers shall be installed.

    2.21 Manual Fire Protection Equipment (clarification of 5.5)

    The crane shall be equipped with sufficient portable fire extinguishers inside the crane cabin andoutside the door leading into the crane machinery room

    Extinguisher medium shall be suitable for the type of fire that can take place.

    The fire extinguishers shall be of the same type and manufacture as used on the installation. This shall

    be stated in the data sheet Fire and gas

    2.22 Escape Routes (addendum to 5.5)

    The crane shall have at least two escape routes leading in different escape directions.

    The primary/escape route shall be the daily used stairway route to and from the crane. The secondary

    escape route is usually down through the pedestal.

    The escape routes including the stairways shall be designed to allow for transport of injured personnel

    on a standard offshore stretcher.

    All escape routes are to be marked with safety signs and illuminated in accordance with Norsok

    standard S001.

    2.23 Fire and Gas (clarification to 5.5)

    The crane shall be connected to the fire and gas detection system on the vessel / platform. This is to be

    described in detail in the datasheets.

    2.24 Indicators for 90% and 110% hook load, stop of luffing movement (addendum to 5.6)

    The rated capacity indicator shall give the following information about 90% and 110% hook load:

    At 90% SWL hook load a visual alarm on the crane display and an audible alarm, which can be

    acknowledged, shall be given. At 110% SWL hook load a visual alarm on the display and an audible

    alarm, which can not be acknowledged, shall be given. The alarm limits shall be calculated from the

    cranes capacity for platform lifting.

    The luffing out movement shall not be possible when the crane is configured with two or three falls

    and a 110% SWL alarm appear. However, when lifting of personnel mode is engaged, this is not

    applicable.

    2.25 Sea zone (clarification of 5.6)

    The mode for sea zone allows the functions MOPS, AOPS and ART to be activated.

    The mode for sea zone shall be activated when the hook is in an area where the crane is only used for

    lifting to and from the supply boat. This usually means when the hook is inside a given sector and

    below a certain level (for instance cellar deck). There shall be a separate indication when the crane is

    operated in the sea lift zone.

    2.26 Limit switches (clarification to 5.6)

    Visual alarm shall be given when limit switches are activated.

    2.27 Switches and control panel (clarification of 5.6)

    The cranes shall be secured against changes in the crane configuration or selected speed, when there is

    load in the hook. Combinations of selected speed and configuration of the crane shall not lead to

    dangerous situations.

    The crane shall be equipped with an on/off switch which activates / deactivates the joysticks.

    The signals from the joystick and any feedback from the pumps shall be secured against a single

    failure, i.e. the signal from the joystick and the feedback shall be provided with a fault detection

    function and the movement of the hook shall be stopped (brake on) if there are any wrong signals. The

    joysticks shall have dedicated switches indicating that these are out of neutral position.

    The joysticks shall have hoisting function on the right control lever and luffing/ slewing function on

    the left control lever.

    LCD monitors shall be furnished with a screen or glass of a glare free type. The monitors shall beeasily readable in bright sunshine.

    2.28 Sector limitations (clarification of 5.6)

    If the crane has a sector limitation function, it is important, that this function can be easily adjusted by

    the driver. The crane shall always have speed reduction for the slewing and luffing movement before

    the crane is entering the forbidden sector. When the forbidden sector is entered, a sector alarm shall be

    given or alternatively the crane stopped.

    2.29 Display information (addendum to 5.6)

    Following information shall be displayed on the load indicator display in addition to the information

    required in NS-EN 13852-1:

    Allowed SWL for platform lifting and lifting in the sea lift zone Weight of the hook load given in % of SWL for platform lifting Hook height indicator showing absolute and relative height with the possibility to set new

    reference point.

    Alarm signals shall be clear and distinct. As far as possible an alarm signal shall be followed by a

    description of how the crane driver shall respond to the alarm.

    2.30 Mechanical radius indicator (addendum to 5.6)

    A mechanical radius indicator may be replaced by an electronic system if the supplier can documentthat the system has the same level of safety. One solution may be a measuring system that has an auto-

    matic fault detection function, which continuously checks the radius calibration, and is according to

    EN 954, cat. 3 (table 2).

    2.31 Start stop sequences (addendum to 5.6)

    During startup after a crane shutdown the cranes functions shall have the same status as when a

    normal startup procedure is executed. A MOPS activation, activated before a shutdown, shall remain

    active during a stop-start sequence.

    If the ART function is armed or active, it shall be deactivated during a stop-start sequence of the crane.

    2.32 Emergency stop (clarification of 5.7)

    The emergency pushbutton shall be placed next to the joystick for the hoisting function. The push

    button shall be red.

    The emergency stop shall cut off the power supply to the hydraulic main and servo system. When

    electric main motors are used, the power from the main contactors to the main motors shall be broken.

    When diesel engine is used, the fuel supply shall be cut off and the air inlet shall be blocked off after a

    time delay

    When activating the emergency stop all brakes (hoisting, luffing and slewing ) shall be activated after

    a suitable time delay in order to stop the movement in a controlled manner. The emergency stop circuit

    shall apply the brakes, i.e. not the crane control system (PLC), in the event of failure in the control

    system (PLC). If the crane is equipped with pawl brake, this should also be activated.

    In addition the AOPS/ ART system must be disabled, and the AOPS/ART system shall also be

    deactivated if this system was active before the emergency stop was activated. The ART shall also be

    deactivated if this system was armed before emergency stop was activated.

    The load indicator system and crane recording system shall be operational after activation of the

    emergency stop. Bypass valves and proportional valves shall be reset / stopped.

    2.33 AOPS (clarification of 5.7)

    Activation of AOPS shall disengage the slewing and hoisting brakes if this is not already done when

    entering the sea lift zone.

    The AOPS shall reset when the conditions for activation are no longer present, but if the activationconditions return, it shall be activated again. The AOP system must be reactivated with a delay in

    order to prevent the boom structure to start oscillating.

    The crane supplier shall include a complete procedure for testing of the AOPS, in the cranes PM

    program.

    2.34 MOPS (clarification of 5.7)

    The MOPS switch/pushbutton shall be positioned next to the joystick for luffing and slewing

    movement. The switch/pushbutton shall be yellow.

    The MOPS shall work both during normal operation of the crane and in event of a power failure, but it

    shall not be possible to activate the MOPS when the personnel lift mode is selected.

    It shall only be possible to activate the MOPS in the sea lift zone.

    The crane supplier shall include a complete procedure for testing of the MOPS, in the cranes PM

    program.

    2.35

    Emergency lowering and emergency operation (addendum to 5.7 / 5.8)

    Emergency lowering:

    Control handles/valves for emergency lowering should be placed such that the operator has full view

    over the loading area when operating the system. The system shall also be fully weather protected if

    placed outside.

    Emergency operation:

    Control handles/valves for emergency operation should be placed in the cabin such that the operator

    will have full view over the loading area when operating the system. The speed of this system must be

    appropriate to the operational conditions in the event of an emergency.

    2.36 Lifting of personnel (clarification of 5.8)

    Personnel lifting function shall be type-approved according to DAT Machinery Directive 9 section 3.

    Operational limits for lifting of personnel within Statoil are 3m significant wave height and 15 m/s

    wind speed, if other limits are not stated in the datasheet.

    If the crane is equipped with two sets of hoisting winches (main / whip ) the main hoist shall not be

    used for lifting of personnel. It shall not be possible to operate the main winch when mode for

    personnel lifting is selected.

    When the crane is used according to the load chart for MOB boat operation, the crane shall not impactthe MOB boat with an additional dynamic load greater than 3 times the weight of the MOB boat. The

    supplier shall state in the user manual, which wave height this apply (minimum 3 m significant), and

    also requirements for any forerunner(s) that has to be used to achieve this. Minimum weight of MOB

    boat is assumed to be 2.5 T.

    2.37 Certification for use (addendum to 6.2)

    At supplier:

    Offshore cranes will be subject to a full factory acceptance test (FAT), organized by the supplier, with

    the attendance of the Enterprise of Competence for the crane certification.

    Supplier will provide all necessary detailed commissioning procedures for commissioning activities to

    be undertaken at the FAT and offshore test. The commissioning procedures shall be subject to

    approval by Company.

    Offshore pedestal cranes shall be fully commissioned, load tested and operable at the Suppliers site.

    Normative reference for Mechanical Completion and Commissioning shall be NORSOK Z-007.

    Offshore

    Offshore cranes will be subject to a certification test at the offshore location. At this test, the cranes

    foundation and its fitness for use at the installation shall be verified and approved by the Enterprise of

    Competence. Before regular use, the Enterprise of Competence, shall issue a certificate for use.

    Offshore cranes telecommunications, fire and gas and any other platform interfaces will be completed

    at the offshore location.

    2.38 Tag hierarchy (addendum to 7.1)

    In order to follow up the maintenance history at component level, all component s included in the

    FMECA and RCM analysis shall have a distinct tag-no. The tag. no. must be associated with the crane

    by means of a functional hierarchy, where every function of the crane is represented, or a structural

    hierarchy for structural and mechanical components, which is not a part of the functional hierarchy.

    The components are to be marked when this is possible and practical. When this is not possible, the tag

    numbers shall be written on the drawings or attached to the drawings by means of a reference table.

    2.39 Maintenance (addendum to 7.3)

    To ensure that the cranes maintenance program is according to 44 in PSAs Activities Regulationswhere it states that: Failure modes that make a hazard for HSE, shall be prevented systematically by

    means of a maintenance program, the supplier shall deliver a maintenance program that is based on a

    RCM analysis. The RCM analysis shall be based on the FMECA analysis for the crane design, and

    shall cover all components relevant to safety functions of the crane. The RCM analysis shall be

    delivered together with the Maintenance Program for the crane. If the design of the crane is changed,

    the RCM analysis shall be updated.

    The design of the crane shall be arranged so that inspection and maintenance of critical components,

    relevant to the cranes safety, can be done without the need for dismantling of components. Solutions

    based on condition monitoring / remote monitoring may be considered.

    Provision shall be made, to use lifting gear to lift out all units that may require replacement or

    maintenance, and weighs more than 25 kg.

    Permanent lifting beams shall be provided to transport and withdraw heavy components for

    maintenance or replacement purposes from crane to platform deck level.

    If a ceiling hatch is used, this hatch shall be sufficiently stable to be weather tight without using acontinuous bolted flange.

    It shall not be necessary to dismantle roof section, large hatches or large equipment in order to replace

    pumps or similar equipment for maintenance purpose.

    Grease lubrication points shall be centralised for ease of maintenance and access.

    Transportation routes shall be established and documented.

    Wear limits shall be listed for all parts which are expected to have a useful life that is less than the

    general crane design life due to wear, and thus will have to be replaced. The wear limit list shall

    include methods of wear measurement/inspection and acceptance criteria.

    For all critical components that have a shorter operating life than the theoretical operating life of the

    crane, the recommended replacement interval shall be described.

    Complete lists/diagrams/charts for trouble-shooting shall be included.

    All rope anchorages shall be open for easy inspection.

    The crane shall be provided with a drain system to take care of any oil spills that must be expectedduring maintenance. The system shall be connected to the platforms open drain system.

    2.40 Velocity (addendum to app. B4)

    The boom velocity shall at least be 0.8/sec. in the working area from 45 to max. working radius with

    5 T hook load. The velocity shall be determined as the mean value when driving the boom in and out.

    2.41 Heat radiation (clarification of app. C4)

    When the crane is placed in areas where it is exposed to heat radiation from turbine exhaust, flaringetc. the company shall describe this in a separate data sheet.

    The supplier must document that the crane and its components can be operated safely under the

    described heat exposure.

    Means should also be taken to avoid inside temperature to exceed 25C and exhaust to come into the

    cabin.

    2.42 Material selection (addendum to app. E)

    Fabrication, documentation and testing of materials for welded steel structures shall be in compliance

    with NORSOK Standards: M-DP-001 Material Selection, M-CR-101 Structural Steel Fabrication and

    M-CR-120 Material Data Sheets for structural steel.

    All hydraulic piping and fittings shall be of stainless steel, type 316L or Cupro-Nickel alloy or in

    accordance with the crane data sheet. Control Valves shall as minimum have stainless steel trim.

    The supplier is obliged to use only new materials for his scope of supply.

    Aluminium is preferred material in walkways, stairs, handrails and ladders.

    2.43 Slew bearing (amendment to app. E4)

    The method used for checking the pre-tensioning of the slewing bearing fasteners shall not include

    loading / unloading of the fasteners.

    A table showing pre-tensioning / extension for each bolt during mounting, shall be delivered with the

    documentation.

    Procedure for measurement and base measurements showing axial clearance of the slew bearing shall

    be delivered together with the documentation.

    2.44 Welded structures (addendum to app.E5)

    Welding procedures and qualification of welding procedures:

    For all welding on primary elements welding procedure specifications (WPS) shall be established and

    qualified according to NORSOK,M101, section 5. For other welds qualified WPS are not required.

    Fabrication and welding requirements:

    Fabrication and welding of all primary structural elements shall be performed according to NORSOK

    M101, section 6.

    Welders qualification

    Welders shall be qualified to EN 287 or equivalent

    Non-destructive testing:

    NDT operators shall be qualified to EN 473. Non-destructive testing of all welded elements shall be

    performed according to NORSOK M101, section 9 with the following exceptions:

    Table 9.1 for inspection category determination shall not be used. Inspection category must bedetermined by the crane designer for each component and weld based on the consequence of adefect and the probability of a defect. The consequence depends on which part of the crane is

    concerned and on number of independent load bearing elements. The probability of a defect

    depends on type of loading (static or dynamic), type of stress situation (tension, compression and

    shear), stress level and joint complexity/design. The selection of inspection categories shall be such

    that the full ranges of categories are used.

    If the acceptance criteria are not met, repair is not mandatory. Competent personnel shall evaluatethe defects and a corrective action decided upon. Evaluation and corrective action shall be

    documented.

    Welding defects shall be repaired according to NORSOK M101, section 101 with the exception

    above.

    Fabrication, welding and inspection of piping shall be carried out according to NORSOK M-601.

    2.45 Brakes (clarification of app. I)

    The brakes shall be engaged immediately in case of power failure to the main motor(s) or with any

    failures in the crane control system. NB! this also applies i case of main line breakage in the hydraulic

    system, pump breakdown or similar .

    Winch brakes (on both hoist and luffing winch) shall engage automatically when upper or lower limit

    switch is activated. This however, does not apply to the lower hoist limit switch when the hook is in

    the sea lift zone.

    2.46 Crane recording system

    2.46.1 General2.46.1.1Main functionsThe crane shall be equipped with a recording system, which is connected to the cranes control- and

    load indicator system (PLC or crane computer). The recording system is communicating with the

    control system and makes it possible to store parameters of importance in memory. The recording

    system shall have three main functions:

    1. The recording system shall store information about how much the crane and the machinery havebeen used and the load on the crane structure. The S.W.P. (safe working period) for the machinery

    shall be calculated, the total number of load cycles that have been done and the load class the crane

    belongs to, based on the actual use of the crane. The information shall be shown on a display1

    that

    is connected to the system.

    2. Data for fatigue calculations of critical components shall also be stored and be available in order tocarry out such calculations.

    3. In addition there shall be a condition recorder that continually records various data, where thepurpose is to be able to repeat the cranes running condition for a defined period in the past.

    2.46.1.2EquipmentThe equipment for recording shall record data continually without any need for manual routines to

    update the data sets, i.e. the recording equipment shall be able to automatically load and store the data

    necessary to display history, doing fatigue calculations and storing data to the condition recorder.

    The recording system may be a part of the cranes programmable control system and/or a separate

    unit(s) for recording and showing the recording data. The system shall be equipped with a screen and

    shall contain software to display historical information about the crane. The screen shall be a part of

    the system and may be permanent or easily connected to the system when needed. The systems time

    reference must be available and easy to adjust.

    The main motor(s) shall have an hour counter even if that is included in the recording system.

    The recording system shall be supplied from the same power source that supplies the cranes control-

    and load indicator system.

    2.46.1.3Storing of dataThe recording system shall have enough storage capacity to keep the recorded data in the cranes

    operating life time, without having to down loading files etc. to release space in the systems memory.

    However, the system shall have back-up features and have restore capabilities to replace damaged filesetc. from old back-up sets. The recorded data should be accumulated in tables and stored in a limited

    number of files.

    2.46.1.4Communication errorsIf communication between the programmable control system and the recording system is lost, this

    shall be indicated on the control panel. This applies also if storing of data to files is not completed.

    These errors shall however not prevent the crane driver from operating the crane.

    2.46.2 Functions2.46.2.1Presentation of historical dataThe recording system shall at any time have the possibility to present a summary of exposed load on

    the crane structure and crane machinery. This summary shall be presented as information about the

    actual duration of service of the machinery (minimum for the hoist-, boom- and slewing machinery)

    and information about the load on the cranes structure. The actual duration of service for installed

    cranes is to be calculated with methods described in FEM 9.755 (06.93). If a new recording system is

    installed in these cranes, the results from this calculation, are to be set as initial values into the new

    recording system.It shall be possible to view the information on the systems screen without downloading or moving any

    data from the system, i.e. the summary has to be a report generated from the recording systems

    software. It shall be possible to export this summary to a file, which format easily can be read by for

    example a spreadsheet.

    2.46.2.2Data for calculation of fatigueIn addition to the information mention above, the recording system shall record and store data

    necessary for calculation of fatigue of critical components on the crane. This information shall be

    stored in the recording system during the whole operational time of the crane.

    Data for calculation of fatigue is based on storing one post of data each lift cycle, i.e. one set of data is

    generated when each lift cycle is finished. This gives detailed information about the lift cycles carried

    out by the crane and will give reliable calculations of fatigue, and can be used as a basis for other

    analysis. Below is a summary of the information minimum required in each post (stored each lift

    cycle):

    Fatigue calculations and implementation of other analysis can be executed on another computer then

    the one which is doing the recording. In that case data have to be copied from the recording system to

    the other computer before the calculations can take place.

    2.46.2.3Activity recorderThe activity logger shall store values for all important signals entering the crane control unit, including

    calculated variables in the control system containing important information. The main purpose with the

    activity logger is the possibility to analyze special events such as engine failure or crane accidents. The

    values thus shall be recorded fast enough to ensure that important events or conditions are captured.Such conditions may for instance be overload situations, irregular high / low pressures in the hydraulic

    system, use of override switches etc. The activity logger may consist in a separate unit or can be

    embedded with the recording system.

    The activity logger shall store data when the crane is in use4, and shall as a minimum, store

    information for the last 24 hours5

    of operation. When the logger is full, the oldest data shall be deleted

    first such that the logger always keeps information of the last 24 hours of operation with the crane.

    It shall be possible to export data out of the activity logger for a later graphic presentation with

    dedicated software. If asked for by the Company, the software performing this presentation shall be

    delivered with the recording system.
