It started because of slavery.

France & Great Britain Neither of them took sides. Thought that the confederacy wasn't a
nation. They still supplied them with weapons.

So many died, it was a devastation. I believe that the civil war of 1861-85 had the most deaths out of all of
the American wars.
Union was blue and the confederate was gray.
