Workplace CompetenciesEmployers will expect graduates to be knowledgeable in the following areas:• Orthographic projection,

and ANSI standards• Mathematical applications, including
algebra and trigonometry• Manufacturing processes
Admission Requirements• A high school diploma or GED• One year of high school-level algebra
or equivalent• Demonstration of profi ciency
in basic skills through a course placement assessment
This one-year program prepares students for employment as a detail drafter in the mechanical drafting fi eld. For a new product to become reality, it must exist in the mind of the engineer, designer or drafter; then it is the detail drafter, working from layouts, sketches and handbooks, who creates working drawings that aid in manufacturing a product.
Career Outlook The employment outlook is favorable for mechanical drafters with current training in computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) systems.
